(2) Any licence holder taking a male trout within 200 m radius of the mouth of the Te Wairoa Stream shall return it to the water immediately.

  1. Minimum and maximum sizes to be taken—(1) No licence holder shall take, kill, or have in his or her possession any trout of a length measured from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail which is:

(a) less than 35 cm if taken from:

(i) lakes Rotorua, Okataina, Rotoma, Rotoehu, Okareka, Rotomahana, Rerewhakaaitu, Tikitere, Ngapouri, Ngaehewa, Waikaremoana, Waikareiti, Whakamarino, Kaitawa or their tributaries;

(ii) Lake Rotoiti, the Ohau Channel and the Kaituna River above the flow control structure;

(iii) Lake Tarawera including that section of the Tarawera River between the downstream end of the trout spawning sanctuary at the Tarawera Outlet (clause 4 (1) (a)) and the falls approximately 2500 metres downstream from the Outlet;

(b) less than 30 cm if taken from all other waters not specified in sub clause 8(1)(a);

(c) more than 60 cm if taken from the Ruakuri River and tributaries above Waitangi Falls.

(2) Every licence holder taking a sportsfish which is less than the minimum length (as outlined in clause 8 (1) (a) and (b)) or which exceeds the specified maximum length (as outlined in clause 8 (1) (c)) shall return it to the water immediately.

(3) Nothing in this clause shall forbid the taking of sportsfish less than 35 cm in length during “special fishing days” conducted at the Ngongotaha hatchery.

  1. Restrictions on the use of boats—(1) No licence holder shall take trout from a boat in the following waters:

(a) the Tarawera River from its outlet from Lake Tarawera to the falls situated approximately 2500 metres downstream;

(b) that section of the Tarawera Outlet enclosed by landmarks;

(c) in the designated winter shoreline fishing areas (clauses 3 (5) (f), (g), (h)) on lakes Tarawera, Rotoiti and Okataina, from the 1st day of July to the 30th day of September;

(d) the Ohau Channel and those sections in lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti that are within a 100 metre radius from the centre of the Ohau Channel as indicated by landmarks.

(2) No licence holder shall take trout from any boat in:

(a) waters reserved for artificial fly fishing as specified in clause 10 (3), or within waters contained within a 300 metres radius around the centre of the Utuhina stream mouth, unless the boat is securely anchored with no more than two anchors;

  1. Restriction on lures—(1) No licence holder shall take sports fish unless he or she only uses authorised lures.

(2) Authorised lures are:

(a) artificial fly—weighted flies must not exceed size 8 on the “Redditch” scale;

(b) artificial minnow—must not exceed 40 grammes in weight;

(c) natural fly—fly, insect, crustacean (excluding koura);

(3) Only artificial fly shall be used in the following waters:

(a) the Ohau channel;

(b) the Tarawera River from its outlet (excluding the trout spawning sanctuary (clause 4.a.) to the falls approximately 2500 m downstream;

(c) that section of Rangiuru Bay defined by landmarks;

(d) all waters contained within a 300 metre arc around the centre of every stream, spring, or river flowing into or out of the following lakes: Rotoiti; Tarawera; Okataina; Rotoma; Rotoehu; Waikaremoana;

(e) all waters flowing into Lake Rotorua excluding the Utuhina Stream downstream of Lake Road Bridge where artificial minnow may also be used;

(f) all waters contained within a 300 metres arc around the centre of every stream, spring, or river flowing into or out of Lake Rotorua, excluding the Utuhina stream;

(g) the Horomanga River and tributaries;

(h) the Hopuruahine, Aniwaniwa, Korokoro and Mokau streams and all tributaries of these streams;

(i) the Ruakuri and Hangaroa rivers (including their tributaries) upstream from their confluence;

(j) the Waioeka River (including tributaries) upstream from its confluence with the Opato Stream;

(k) Lakes Whakamarino and Kaitawa (including all inflowing streams);

(l) the Waimapu Stream.

(4) Artificial fly, natural fly, artificial minnow can be used in all waters not specified above (clause 10 (3)) and excluding all closed waters (clause 4).

  1. Revocation—The notice published in the New Zealand Gazette, 1990, No. 151, pages 3205–3208, title Eastern Fish and Game Region District Anglers Notice 1990, as amended by Amendments One, Two, Three and Four, is hereby revoked.

ANGERS (TARANAKI FISH AND GAME REGION) NOTICE 1994, AMENDMENT NO.2

Pursuant to section 26r (3) of the Conservation Act 1987 the Taranaki Fish and Game Council amends the District Anglers (Taranaki Fish and Game Region) Notice 1994, supplement to the New Zealand Gazette, 1994, No.89, page 2694.

  1. Title and commencement—(1) This notice may be cited as the Anglers (Taranaki Fish and Game Region) Notice 1994, Amendment No. 2, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the District Anglers (Taranaki Fish and Game Region) Notice 1994 (hereinafter referred to as the “principal notice”).

  2. Open season—(1) Clause 3 (6) of the principal notice is repealed and replaced with:

“(6) In the waters known as Lake Writoa, the open season shall be from the 1st day in October in any year to the 20th day of April in the following year (both days inclusive), then from the 10th day of July of that following year to the 30th day of September of that same year (both days inclusive).”

(2) Clause 3 is further amended by inserting a new subclause:

“(7) In the waters known as Lake Pauri, the open season shall be from the 1st day of October in any year to the 12 day of April in the following year (both days inclusive), then from the 1st day of August of that following year to the 30th day of September of that same year (both days inclusive).”

  1. Authorised Tackle—Clause 4 is amended by inserting a new subclause:
