10. Daily Bag Limit of Killed Trout or Salmon

No licence holder shall on any one day kill or be in possession of more than 6 trout from one or more of the following waters;

Mataura River from the bridge on SH6 (Black bridge), 3 km north of Athol, to the sea;

Waikaia River downstream from the Glenaray bridge on the Waikaia-Piano Flat road;

Oreti River from Rocky Point to the sea;

Aparima River from its confluence with the Hamilton Burn to the sea;

Waiau River from the Mararoa Weir to the sea;

Makarewa River from its confluence with the Otaipiri Stream to its confluence with the Oreti River;

Pourakino River and its tributaries

All those waters draining to the sea between Fortrose and The Brothers Point.

No licence holder shall in any one day kill or be in possession of more than two trout from one or more of the following waters:

All rivers and streams flowing into Lakes Te Anau, Manapouri, Monowai, Hauroko, and Hankinson, except for the upper Waiau and the Mararoa River downstream of the SH94 bridge at The Key;

Oreti River upstream of Rocky Point;

Mararoa River upstream of the SH94 bridge at The Key including the Mavora Lakes and their tributaries;

Whitestone River;

Wairaki River upstream of the electricity transmission lines;

Borland River;

Monowai River;

Lake Thomas;

Aparima River upstream of the Hamilton Burn confluence;

No licence holder shall on any one day kill or be in possession of more than four trout from any other waters in the region.

Trout or salmon taken within the described experimental catch and release zones shall be immediately released with as little injury as possible back into the water from which it had been taken.

No licence holder shall in any one day kill or possess more than two salmon from any waters of the region.

11. Size Limit

There is no minimum size limit for trout or salmon taken in the Southland Fish and Game Region.

12. Revocation

The District Anglers (Southland Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990, and amendments one, two, three, four and five, are revoked.

REVOCATION

The District Anglers Notice for Fish and Game Regions, published in the Supplement to the Gazette of 28 August 1995, No. 87, at page 2534, is revoked.

ANGLERS (EASTERN FISH AND GAME REGION) NOTICE 1996

Pursuant to section 26R (3) of the Conservation Act 1987, the Minister of Conservation approves the following Anglers Notice for the Eastern Fish and Game Region

Notice

  1. Title and commencement—This notice may be cited as the Anglers (Eastern Fish and Game Region) Notice 1996 and shall come into force on the 1st day of October 1996.

  2. Interpretation—Words and expressions in this notice which are defined in the Conservation Act 1987, or the Freshwater Fisheries Regulations 1983, shall have the meaning as defined with additional expressions defined below:

This Anglers Notice shall apply to the Eastern Fish and Game Region, as defined by Gazette, No. 83, page 1861, 24 May 1990 (SO Plan 5849S).

“Boat” includes any vessel, launch, canoe, punt, float tube, raft, aircraft or hovercraft.

“Foulhook”, in relation to any fish means to take the fish with a hook otherwise than through the mouth.

“Landmark” means a black and yellow ringed post or buoy.

  1. Open Season—(1) Sports fish may only be taken from any waters during the open season provided for those waters.

(2) In all waters except those listed in sub clauses 3 (3), (4) and (5) below, the open season shall be from the 1st day of October in any year to the 30th day of June in the following year (both days inclusive).

(3) In the waters known as:

(a) the waters between landmarks approximately 150 metres downstream of the Lake Tarawera Outlet and the falls approximately 2500 metres downstream from the outlet;

the open season shall be from the 1st day of October in any year to the 31st day of May in the following year (both days inclusive).

(4) In the waters known as:

(a) those rivers and streams flowing into Lake Rotorua (excluding those waters listed in clauses 3 (3) (u) and (v) and 4 (1) (b) and (c));

(b) those rivers and streams flowing into Lake Waikaremoana;

the open season shall be from 1st day of December in any year to the 30th day of June in the following year.\n
(5) In the waters known as (and excluding tributaries):

(a) Lake Maraetai, Whakamaru, Atiamuri, Ohakuri, Aratiatia up to Huka Falls;

(b) the Tiniroto and Putere Lakes;

(c) Lake Rotorua except those waters which lead into the Ohau Channel and which are inwardly bounded by landmarks;

(d) lakes Okareka, Rotoehu, Rerewhakaaitu, Okaro, Ngahewa, Ngapouri, Rotomahana, Tikitapu;

(e) Lake Rotoma except the following areas:

(i) the waters between landmarks situated at Anaputa Point to the boat ramp at Matahi Lagoon and extending from that shoreline for a distance of 100 metres into Lake Rotoma;

(ii) the waters situated between the landmarks situated at the location known commonly as Manawahe Bay and extending from the shoreline for a distance of 100 metres into Lake Rotoma;
