3. Closed Waters
No licence holder shall take sports fish from the following waters:
Lake Marion
Taylors Drain to its confluence with the Wairarapa Stream
Avon River between Armagh and Barbados Street bridges
Glenariffe Stream during February in the section between the signpost (located 160 m below the hatchery outfall) and the road bridge immediately upstream of the hatchery.
Kowai River and its tributaries, including Hacketts Creek, are closed to salmon fishing from 1 March to 30 September.
The tailrace and drainage channel of the Highbank Power Station.
*Rakaia River, and its tributaries in the western zone, are closed for trout fishing from 1 March to 30 September.

4. Prohibited Tackle
Within the North Canterbury Fish & Game region and in addition to the prohibitions provided in the First Schedule of this Notice, no licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall:
4.1 Use any weight within 380 mm of any artificial minnow.
4.2 Use more than one lure or bait when weight is attached in the Rakaia River, between 1 January and 30 April.
4.3 Use any unsportsmanlike device or method.
4.4 Use in Artificial Fly Only Waters, any technique other than artificial fly, and provided further that no additional weight other than the necessary weight of the line, cast and fly shall be used, and that no artificial fly shall, in such waters, have more than one hook or a multiple hook.

Lake Little Ida
Lake Monck (Catherine)
Lake Sarah
Lake Marymere
Lake Sheppard
6. Natural Bait Prohibited
No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall:
- use natural bait in the western zone
- use natural bait when fishing for salmon except in the Kaiapoi River.
- use more than two hooks (single or multiple) when fishing with natural bait for salmon.
7. Use of Boats
7.1 Fishing from boats which are being mechanically propelled is permitted in:
All rivers
Lake Ellesmere
Lake Forsyth
Lake Coleridge
Lake Sumner
7.2 Fishing from boats or floatation devices which are not being mechanically propelled is permitted in:
All rivers
All eastern zone lakes
7.3 Anglers fishing from boats which are being mechanically propelled must stay at least 200 metres from any angler fishing from the shore.
8. Coarse Fishing
8.1 The following special rules apply to the Kaiapoi Lakes Coarse Fishing Area only:
8.1.1 The use of a keep net of 1.8 m minimum length is permitted.
8.1.2 There shall be no restriction on lures, baits or the positioning of any weight.
9. Daily Limit Bags
9.1 Catch and Release Only
All sports fish caught in the following waters must be released immediately back into the waters from which they were taken with as little injury as possible:
Lake Marymere
The Kaiapoi Lakes
Ashley River above the Oxford-Glentui Bridge
9.2 Rest of North Canterbury Fish and Game Region
No licence holder shall in one day take, kill, or be in possession of more than:
9.2.1 Total combined sportsfish 6
9.2.2 Salmon
a) Lake Coleridge 6
b) Rest of North Canterbury Fish and Game Region 2
9.2.3 Trout
No licence holder shall take, kill or be in possession of more than four (4) trout. The following further restrictions apply:
a) Eastern Zone 4
b) Western Zone
i) Lake Coleridge 4
ii) Lake Sumner 4
iii) Lake Letitia 1
iv) The rest of the western zone 2
9.3 It shall be permissible to make up the difference between a lesser limit bag prescribed in one place and a higher limit bag prescribed in another place.
9.4 No licence holder shall continue to fish for a particular species of sports fish on any day on which he/she has already taken and killed the limit bag for that species.
10. Minimum Size to be Taken
No licence holder shall take or have in his/her possession any trout or salmon which does not exceed 250 mm in length.
11. Revocation
The notice published in the supplement to the Gazette, 1995, No. 87, page 2541 titled District Anglers (North Canterbury Fish and Game Region) Notice 1995 is hereby revoked.
