9.2 No licence holder shall continue to fish on any day on which he or she has already killed a limit bag.

10. Minimum Size

The minimum size for trout or salmon shall be;

Lake Otamateroa (Muirs) 22 cm

All other waters 30 cm

HAWKE’S BAY FISH AND GAME REGION

1. Open Season

Summer season, all waters

  • Lake Tutira, except Sandy Creek and the lake outlet channel;
  • The Tuki Tuki River where it passes through the Tuki Tuki wildlife refuge, and between the junction of the Tukipo River and the Mount Herbert Road Extension;
  • The Waipawa River within the boundaries of the Waipawa Borough;
  • Lake Oponui;
  • The Ngaruroro River between the Chesterhope Bridge and Fernhill Bridge;
  • The Mohaka River downstream from the Mangatainoka confluence, excluding tributaries;
  • The Waipunga River upstream to the falls, excluding tributaries;

Season Duration (days inclusive)

  • 1 October-30 April

Lake Te Pohue north of the two signposts on the south side;

  • All year

The larger of the two lakes, known as Twin Lakes, at Kuripapango

  • All year

The Tuki Tuki River downstream from the SH50 road bridge, excluding tributaries;

  • 1 June-30 September

The Ngaruroro River downstream from its confluence with the Taruarau River, excluding tributaries;

  • 1 June-30 September

The Tutaekuri River downstream from its confluence with the Mangaone Stream, excluding tributaries;

  • 1 June-30 September

The Waipawa River downstream from the SH50 road bridge, excluding tributaries;

  • 1 June-30 September

The Porangahau River downstream from its confluence with the Mangawero Stream, excluding tributaries;

  • 1 June-30 September

The Karamu Stream, excluding tributaries;

  • 1 June-30 September

All lakes of the region;

  • 1 June-30 September

No licence holder shall fish for, take or attempt to take, any sports fish except during an open season.

2. Prohibited Tackle

No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall use in any water in which only artificial fly is permitted, any lead, wooden or plastic bubble or bubble with or without water, or weight other than the necessary weight of line, cast and artificial fly.

3. Hours of Fishing

All waters—no restriction.

4. Fishing Restrictions

No licence holder shall use:

a: Any mechanically propelled boat in Lake Tutira;

b: Any unsportsmanlike device or method.

5. Daily Bag Limit

Mohaka River and tributaries above the Pakautu Road bridge 2 trout
Esk River and tributaries 2 trout

Maraetotara River and tributaries 2 trout
Ripia River and tributaries 2 trout
Taruarau River and tributaries 2 trout
Waipunga River and tributaries 2 trout
Te Hoe River and tributaries 2 trout
All other waters of the region 4 trout or salmon

It shall be permissible to make up the difference between a lesser limit bag prescribed in one place and a higher limit bag prescribed in another place.

6. Minimum/Maximum Size to be Taken

Taruarau River and tributaries above the Napier-Taihape Road bridge minimum 300 mm, maximum 500 mm
All other waters minimum 300 mm

7. Authorised Lures and Baits

Artificial Fly only waters

Only artificial fly may be used in the following waters and their tributaries:

  • Cochranes Creek
  • Hautapu River
  • Mangaonuku River
  • Maharakiki River
  • Mangaone River
  • Maraetotara River
  • Makaretu River
  • Te Hoe River
  • Tukipo River
