- Size Limit
4.1 There is no minimum size limit for trout or salmon taken in the Wellington Fish and Game region.
4.2 In the Rangitikei River upstream of the Matawhero Road bridge (commonly called the Mangaohane Bridge), no licence holder shall take or have in his or her possession any trout or salmon which exceeds 550 mm in length.

The District Anglers (Wellington Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990 and Amendments No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 are hereby revoked.

Closed Season
No licence holder shall take sports fish from the following waters;
Brook Stream located in Nelson City;
Quinnat salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) in the Wairau River and its tributaries lying upstream of the Wash Bridge or in the Acheron river and its tributaries lying upstream of the Severn confluence or in the Clarence river and its tributaries lying upstream of the Styx confluence. -
Authorised Tackle
A licence holder in fishing for sports fish shall not fish from any boat or any floating device, in those parts of Lake Rototi and Lake Rotoroa within a radius of 100m from the centre of the meeting lines of those rivers and streams listed:
Lake Rototi—
(a) Travers River;
(b) Coldwater Stream;
(c) Black Valley Stream;
(d) Buller River.
Lake Rotoroa—
(a) Sabine River;
(b) D'Urville River;
(c) Gowan River.
- Artificial Fly or Artificial Minnow Only Waters
No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall use any lure or bait other than artificial minnow or artificial fly in the following waters and all their tributaries;
Acheron River;
Anatoki River;
Aorere River upstream from the road bridge at Rockville;
Baton River;
Bowscale Tarn;
Branch River;
