Class of Vehicle | Specified Glazing | Conditions
M Group and N Group | Glazing (other than the windscreen and the glazing attached to, or forming part of, the driver’s door and the front passenger’s door) which either has a light transmittance of zero (ie. is completely opaque), or completely diffuses incident light. | The vehicle must be fitted with external mirrors on both sides.
M Group and N Group vehicles which were manufactured or first registered outside New Zealand | Glazing (other than the windscreen and the glazing attached to, or forming part of, the driver’s door and the front passenger’s door) which as a result of the level of its tinting at the time of its manufacture (and not as a result of the application of a tinting film, overlay or other similar application to it) allows light transmittance at a rate of less than 35 percent. | 1.(a) The vehicle must have been first registered in New Zealand before 5.00 p.m. on 17 October 1995; or
(b) Either:
(i) The importer of the vehicle must have purchased, or entered into a contract to purchase, the vehicle before 5.00 p.m. on 17 October 1995; or
(ii) At the time the importer purchased, or entered into a contract to purchase, the vehicle, the importer was not, and could not reasonably have been expected to be, aware of the terms and conditions of this Exemption Notice.
- The vehicle must be fitted with external mirrors on both sides.
MA, MB, MC, MD1, MD2 and NA | Glazing (other than the windscreen and the glazing attached to, or forming part of, the driver’s door and the front passenger’s door) which allows light transmittance at a rate of less than 35 percent but greater than zero, and which passes coherent light. | The vehicle must be fitted with external mirrors on both sides, and an opaque transverse partition for the full height and full width of the vehicle must be permanently installed between the driver and the glazing specified in the second column.
