Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations
Exemption Notice - Glazing
Pursuant to Regulation 36 of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990, I, ALAN WOODSIDE, Acting Director of the Land Transport Safety Authority of New Zealand, hereby exempt vehicles of the classes listed in the first column of the Schedule to this Exemption Notice from compliance with the requirements of Regulations 11, 26(1) and 26(5) of the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990 insofar as Regulations 11, 26(1) and 26(5) require the glazing specified in respect of each such class of vehicle in the second column of the Schedule to allow light transmittance at a rate greater than that specified, or otherwise allowed, for that glazing in the second column of the Schedule provided:
(a) the glazing specified in the second column of the Schedule in respect of the particular class of vehicle allows light transmittance at the rate specified, or otherwise allowed, for that glazing in that column; and
(b) the conditions set out in respect of the relative class of vehicle in the third column of the Schedule are satisfied; and
(c) that glazing otherwise complies, in all respects, with the appropriate vehicle standard specified in the Second Schedule to the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations 1990.
This Exemption Notice is to come into force at 5:00 p.m. on 17 October 1995 and revokes and replaces the Transport (Vehicle Standards) Regulations Exemption Notice - Glazing dated 15 February 1995 which was published in the Gazette on 16 February 1995.

| M Group and N Group. | Glazing (other than the windscreen and the glazing attached to, or forming part of, the driver’s door and the front passenger’s door) which allows light transmittance at a rate of not less than 35 percent. | 1. The vehicle must be fitted with external mirrors on both sides. 2. If any tinting film, overlay or other similar application has been applied to the glazing specified in the second column of this Schedule, then that film, overlay or application must not have any bubbling or other defect, or otherwise be scratched, to such an extent that it impedes unduly the vision of the driver through that glazing. |
