"4. Title and Grade—The grade marks assigned to the standard grade for apples and pears intended by the board to be exported from New Zealand shall be “Class I” or “Class II” (hereinafter referred to as ‘the grade’ (Class I or Class II) as appropriate).
- Provisions Concerning Sizing—(1) Amend paragraph (b) of clause 7 of the principal notice by omitting the word “The” and substituting in its place the words “For Class I the”.
(2) Amend clause 7 of the principal notice by inserting after paragraph (b) the following paragraph:
“(c) For Class II the minimum diameter sizes of apples and pears for export shall be:

- SECOND SCHEDULE—Amend the SECOND SCHEDULE to the principal notice by:
(1) Inserting immediately below the words “SECOND SCHEDULE” the words:
“PART A. Class I”.
(2) Inserting after clause 3 of Schedule B the following words:
“PART B. Class II
This class includes apples and pears which do not qualify for inclusion in Class I but satisfy the minimum requirements specified in the principal notice.”
- Allowances for Skin Defects
Defects in shape, are allowed provided that the fruit retains its essential characteristics as regards quality, the keeping quality and presentation. The stalk may be missing, provided that the skin is not damaged.
Skin defects are allowed for each fruit, within the following limits:
- 4 centimetre length for defects of elongated shape;
- 2.5 square centimetre total surface area for other defects with the exception of speckles, which must not extend over more than 1 square centimetre in area.
- Colouring Criteria for Apples
Group A: Varieties with red colouring:
- at least 1/4 of the surface of the fruit to have red colouring.
Group B: Varieties with mixed red colour (the red colouring to be bright):
- at least 1/10 of the surface of the fruit to have red colouring.
Group C: Striped varieties, slightly coloured:
- no minimum area to have colouring.
- Russeting Allowance for Apples and Pears
(i) Brown patches:
- may go beyond the stem or pistil cavities and be slightly rough.
(ii) Russeting—thin net-like:
- maximum of 1/2 of the surface area of the fruit permitted.
(iii) Russeting—heavy:
- maximum of 1/3 of the surface area of the fruit permitted.
Cumulative defects (with the exception of brown patches which are excluded from these cumulative defects):
- in no case may thin russeting and heavy russeting taken together exceed a maximum of 1/2 of the surface area of the fruit.
- Quality Tolerances
10 percent by number or weight of apples and pears satisfying neither the requirements of the class nor the minimum requirements, with the exception of produce affected by rotting or any other deterioration rendering it unfit for consumption. A maximum of 2 percent is allowed by number or by weight of fruit which shows the following defects:
- serious attacks of cork (bitter pit) or water-core.
- slight damage or unhealed cracks.”

Notice Declaring Senegal Tea (Gymnocoronis spilanthoides) a Class B Noxious Plant (No. 5264; Ag. 1570-03-3)

Pursuant to section 19 of the Noxious Plants Act 1978, the Noxious Plants Council hereby declares Senegal tea (Gymnocoronis spilanthoides) to be a Class B noxious plant throughout New Zealand.

This notice shall come into effect on the day after its date of notification in the Gazette.

- Pursuant to section 19 of the Noxious Plants Act 1978, the Noxious Plants Council hereby revokes the declarations of the following plants set out in the Schedule hereto as Class B noxious plants in that part of New Zealand lying within the boundaries of the region of Bay of Plenty Regional Council District Noxious Plants Authority, appearing in the Schedule to the notice entitled “Declaration of Class B Noxious Plants in Bay of Plenty Regional Council District Noxious Plants Authority” (No. 4963; Ag. 12/10/18/6)” published in the New Zealand Gazette on 22 March 1990, No. 43, page 951.
