Approval of Defensive Driving Courses
Pursuant to section 48 (2) (a) of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Act 1986, and under powers delegated to me by the Secretary for Transport in an instrument dated the 1st day of October 1991; I, Warren Richard Gillespie Simeon, Controller, Road User Standards, hereby approve the following organisations for the purposes of section 68 of the Transport Act 1962 and regulations 11 (1) (b) (i) and 32 (2) of the Transport (Drivers Licensing) Regulations 1987:
Counties Technical Training Trust Defensive Driving Course, Pukekohe.

Approval of Course for Certificate of Knowledge of Law and Practice
Pursuant to section 48 (2) (d) of the Transport (Vehicle and Driver Registration and Licensing) Act 1986, and under powers delegated to me by the Secretary for Transport in an instrument dated the 1st day of October 1991; I, Warren Richard Gillespie Simeon, Controller, Road User Standards, hereby approve the following course for the purposes of section 18 of the Transport Services Licensing Act 1989:
That course of instruction contained in the handbook entitled “Knowledge of Law and Practice” for the Transport Service Licence Industry published by the Ministry of Transport (ISBN 0-477-05268-1).

Pursuant to section 15 of the Broadcasting Act 1989, notice is hereby given that the Broadcasting Standards Authority has made the following decisions on complaints referred to it for investigation and review:
(i) In Decision 39/92, the Authority declined to uphold a complaint from the Group Opposed to Advertising of Liquor of Hamilton that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of a Dominion Breweries sponsorship advertisement on 21 March 1992 breached the responsibility placed on broadcasters that liquor advertisements shall not employ aggressive themes.
(ii) In Decision 40/92, the Authority declined to uphold a complaint from Mr Ian Ross of Upper Hutt that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of an item on One Network News on 3 February 1992 breached the responsibility, among others, placed on broadcasters to maintain standards of good taste and decency.
(iii) In Decision 41/92, the Authority declined to uphold a complaint from Mr P.G. Curran of Levin that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of items on One Network News on 24 December 1991 breached the responsibility placed on broadcasters to show balance, impartiality and fairness in current affairs.
(iv) In Decision 42/92, the Authority upheld a complaint from Dr Richard Talbot of Hamilton that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of an advertisement for Strepsils in winter in 1991 breached the responsibility placed on broadcasters that advertisements shall not be misleading.
(v) In Decision 43/92, the Authority declined to uphold a complaint from the Group Opposed to Advertising of Liquor of Hamilton that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of an advertisement for Gordons Gin in March 1992 breached the responsibility placed on broadcasters that liquor advertisements shall not imply that the consumption or presence of liquor is a necessary component of social and sexual success.
(vi) In Decision 44/92, the Authority declined to uphold a complaint from Mrs Margaret Jackson of Cambridge that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of an advertisement of Steinlager beer breached the responsibility placed on broadcasters that liquor advertisements shall not cause undue offence to sections of the community.
(vii) In Decision 45/92, the Authority declined to uphold a complaint from the Group Opposed to Advertising of Liquor of Hamilton that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of a Dominion Breweries sponsorship advertisement on 10 March 1992 breached two of the responsibilities placed on broadcasters about liquor advertisements.
(viii) In Decision 47/92, the Authority declined to uphold a complaint from Mr Kristian Harang of Auckland that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of an item on One Network News on 12 February 1992 breached the responsibility, among others, placed on broadcasters to maintain standards of good taste and decency.
(ix) In Decisions 46/92, 48/92, 49/92, 50/92 and 51/92 the Authority upheld complaints from Mr J. E. Whyte of Paraparaumu, Mrs Valerie Craymer-Alexander of Dunedin, Mr L. G. Sanders of Tauranga, Tradition Family Property (New Zealand) of Wellington and Mrs Frances Burt of Gisborne that the broadcast by Television New Zealand Limited of an item on Holmes on 12 February 1992 breached the responsibilities placed on broadcasters.
