Social Security Act 1964

Amendment to a Direction by the Minister of Social Welfare

In the matter of the section 5 of the Social Security Act 1964

To: The Director-General of Social Welfare

I, Jennifer Mary Shipley, Minister of Social Welfare, hereby amend the direction I gave on 1 April 1992 pursuant to section 5 (2) of the Social Security Act 1964, concerning the exercise of your discretion to grant a special benefit under section 61G, by:

  1. Substituting the words “(except in the case of a person to whom clauses II and III of this direction apply)” for the words “(except in the case of a person with psychiatric or physical disabilities who is in residential care)”; and

  2. By inserting the following clause:

“III. In the case of a person receiving training benefit who incurs additional costs because he or she is training away from home, you shall be satisfied that a special entitlement is justified of an amount equal to the extra weekly accommodation costs incurred while training away from home or $100 per week, whichever is the lesser.”

This amendment shall be read together with and deemed to be part of the direction given on 1 April 1992 in respect of applications for the special benefit received on or after 1 October 1992, and renewals of that benefit received on or after that date.

Traffic Regulations 1976

Approval of Revolving/Flashing Lights for Certain Vehicles

Pursuant to regulation 67 (8) of the Traffic Regulations 1976, and to a delegation from the Secretary for Transport, I, Carne Maurice Clissold, Controller Road and Traffic Standards, approve the fitting and use of one revolving or flashing amber light on those broadcasting coverage survey vehicles fitted with extension masts and belonging to Johnston, Dick and Associates Limited. This approval is subject to the following conditions:

  1. The vehicle shall be painted a conspicuous colour.

  2. The light shall only be used when the vehicle is stationary.

  3. Unless traffic is under the control of a police officer, adequate warning signs shall be erected as soon as practicable in advance of any hazard indicated by flashing or revolving amber lights.
