take or attempt to take, any sports fish except by using a rod and running line.
(2) Notwithstanding subclause (1) of this clause, when landing a sports fish, a hand-held landing net may be used to secure or land any such fish.
(3) No licence holder shall, in fishing for sports fish, have in his control, more than one assembled rod, which shall be within 15 metres and under visual observation at all times.
(4) No licence holder shall use:—
(a) More than 2 lures or hooks.
(b) Any double or treble pointed hook, or any multiple hook assembly;
(c) Any gaff or landing hook;
(d) Any hook having a gape greater than 13mm, measured from the point of the hook to the nearest point of the shank;
(e) Any hand-line, stroke-hauling gear, spear gun, paravane, firearm, explosive, spear, net (excluding landing net), trap or any other unsportsmanlike device or gear;
(f) Any electric fishing gear, except as allowed by clause 26ZI of the Act;
(g) Any poison or any medicinal or chemical compound other than a preparation used solely to float or sink a fly or line.
- Baits and lures—(1) No licence holder shall take sports fish unless he uses authorised baits and lures.
(2) Authorised baits and lures are:
(a) Natural and artificial; fly, insect, worm, and crustacea (excluding Koura);
(b) Artificial minnow;
(c) Fish but not any portion of fish, ova, or shellfish, provided that shellfish shell may be used in any artificial minnow.
(3) Artificial fly only shall be used at Lake Mangamahoe and Raetihi Hydro Dam.
(4) There shall be no restriction on the bait used by licence holders fishing for Perch in any pond or dam on privately owned land.
- Minimum size to be taken—(1) No licence holder shall take, kill, or have in his possession any trout or salmon which is less than the length shown below, when measured from the tip of the nose to the notch of the tail.
(a) All waters south of the line from Patea to Wanganui-Mangamoteao River confluence to Kaikati and through Colliers Junction to the Boundary .. 20cm.
(b) All other waters: .. 33cm.
(2) Every licence holder taking a sports fish which does not exceed the specified minimum length shall return it to the water immediately with the least possible injury.
- Daily limit bag—(1) No licence holder shall on any one day, kill, or have in his possession more than 4 sportsfish of which no more than 2 shall be salmon.
(2) Where a licence holder has taken or killed 4 sportsfish in one day he shall forthwith cease fishing for the remainder of that day.
(3) Notwithstanding subclause (1) and (2) above there shall be no limit on the number of Perch taken or killed by a licence holder.
- Virginia Lake (Wanganui)—Despite other rules in this notice, special rules apply to waters of Virginia Lake. The rules are:
(a) Only Junior licence holders may take fish;
(b) Only 2 trout per day may be taken;
(c) No fly casting;
(d) No fishing from the paved area in front (southeast side) of the lake.
- Revocation—The notices published in the supplement to the Gazette, No. 151 of Thursday, 30th of August 1990, on pages 3209–3210 titled District Anglers (Taranaki Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990, are hereby revoked.

District Anglers (Wellington Fish & Game Region)
Notice 1990, Amendment No. 1.
Pursuant to section 26R (3) of the Conservation Act 1987 (as amended by section 17 of the Conservation Law Reform Act 1990), the Wellington Fish and Game Council amends the District Anglers (Wellington Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990, supplement to the New Zealand Gazette, 1990, No. 151, pages 3210–3211.
- Title and commencement—(1) This amending notice may be cited as the District Anglers (Wellington Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990, Amendment No. 1, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the District Anglers (Wellington Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990 (hereinafter referred to as the “principal notice”).
(2) This amending notice shall come into force on the 1st day of October 1991.
- Authorised tackle—(a) Clause 4 of the principal notice is amended by substituting subclause (5) with the following:
(5) No licence holder when fishing for sports fish shall use any lure or bait other than artificial fly in the following waters and all their tributaries:
(a) Hautapu, above the road bridge numbered 741/10.96 on State Highway 1 by the Taihape Golf Course;
(b) Kopuaranga;
(c) Makuri, above the township bridge;
(d) Mangatainoka, above the road bridge on the Hamua-Hukanui Road;
(e) Mangatarere:
(f) Mangatoro;
(g) Wainuiomata, below main township bridge;
(h) Waipoua, above Miki Miki bridge;
(i) Waitohu.
(b) This amendment adds the Mangatoro to the former schedule.

District Anglers (Nelson/Marlborough Fish & Game Region) Notice 1990, Amendment No. 1.
Pursuant to section 26R (3) of the Conservation Act 1987 (as amended by section 17 of the Conservation Law Reform Act 1990), the Nelson/Marlborough Fish and Game Council amends the District Anglers (Nelson/Marlborough Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990, supplement to the New Zealand Gazette, 1990, No. 151, pages 3211–3213.
- Title and commencement—(1) This amending notice may be cited as the District Anglers (Nelson/Marlborough Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990, Amendment No. 1, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the District Anglers (Nelson/Marlborough Fish and Game Region) Notice 1990 (hereinafter referred to as the “principal notice”).
(2) This amending notice shall come into force on the 1st day of October 1991.
- Open season—(1) Subclause (2) of clause 3 of the principal notice is amended by omitting the words “1 June” and substituting “1 October” in both places where they occur.
