The Standards Act 1965—Draft New Zealand Amendment Available for Comment
PURSUANT to subsection (3) of section 23 of the Standards Act 1965, notice is hereby given that the following draft amendment is being circulated.
Number and Title of Specification
DZ 5823/A3 Draft Amendment No. 3 to NZS 5823:1982 Buoyancy aids and marine safety harnesses and lines. $5.50 (incl. GST).
This draft amendment deletes the turn or roll over requirements of lifejackets for use in sheltered waters. This allows the lifejacket to provide better protection against hypothermia by the placing of buoyancy panels at the back of the lifejacket. Colour requirements for buoyancy aids are altered so that the colour is required to approximate to one of several high visibility colours. Compliance of colour is assessed by panel, and the use of chromaticity coordinates to assess colour is only to be used in the event of the panel failing to reach a unanimous decision. Strength requirements for adjustable belts for buoyancy aids are introduced. New requirements are introduced for fitting of buoyancy vests and buoyancy garments. The ability of lifejackets and buoyancy vests to withstand the impact of jumping into the water is altered. A new section for specialist lifejackets for white water rafting or power boat racing is included. A number of other minor amendments are made.
All persons who may be affected by this publication and who desire to comment thereon, may obtain copies at the price shown, from the Standards Association of New Zealand, Wellington Trade Centre, 181–187 Victoria Street (or Private Bag), Wellington.
NOTE—Payment must accompany all requests for drafts.
The closing date for the receipt of comment is 10 August 1987.
Dated at Wellington this 15th day of June 1987.
