The Standards Act 1965—Draft New Zealand Standard Specification Available for Comment

PURSUANT to subsection (3) of section 23 of the Standards Act 1965, notice is hereby given that the following draft New Zealand standard specification is being circulated.

Number and Title of Specification

This is the draft revision of NZS 1300:1965. It is based on Australian Standard AS 3100:1985 with substantial adaptation for New Zealand conditions.

Essential requirements are set out for the design and construction of equipment for use in electrical installations, so as to ensure basic safety of persons and property from electric shock, burns and fire. The proposed revision will apply to any apparatus or material including any appliance or accessory, which is to be used on an a.c. or d.c. circuit with a nominal supply voltage exceeding 32 V a.c. or 50 V d.c. and not exceeding 650 V and which is not specifically covered by any other recognised Standard. It does not deal with requirements for function or performance except in so far as these may affect safety.

Under regulation 18 (2) of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 1976, such apparatus must comply with the electrical safety requirements of this Standard, unless an alternative specification is selected under regulation 18 (3). To that extent this document will have mandatory application.

All persons who may be affected by this publication and who desire to comment thereon, may obtain copies at the price shown, from the Standards Association of New Zealand, Wellington Trade Centre, 181–187 Victoria Street (or Private Bag), Wellington.
