Leasehold Estate in Land Acquired for Irrigation Purposes in the Silverpeaks County
Pursuant to section 20 of the Public Works Act 1981, the Minister of Works and Development declare that an agreement to that effect having been entered into, the estate in the land described in the Schedule hereto, held from Her Majesty the Queen by Robert Andrew William Elliot of Paerau, farmer (half share); Alina Winifred Elliot, wife of Robert Andrew William Elliot (above-named); Norman William Allan of Dunedin, solicitor and Leslie James Stewart of Dunedin, accountant (half share) as tenants in common in the said shares under and by virtue of Deferred Payment Licence No. 1189 recorded in certificate of title No. 10B/1111, is hereby acquired subject to prospecting licence 617354 for irrigation purposes and shall vest in the Crown on the 1st day of May 1986.

All that piece of land containing 214.17 hectares, being part Run 254B, Blocks VI and VII, Loganburn Survey District and Block VIII, Serpentine Survey District; as shown marked “A” on S.O. Plan 20956, lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor at Dunedin.

State Forest Land Set Apart as a Dedicated Area—Kopupounamu Ecological Area—Rotorua Conservancy
Pursuant to section 15 of the Forests Act 1949 (as inserted by section 2 of the Forests Amendment Act 1973, and amended by section 5 of the Forests Amendment Act 1976), the Minister of Forests hereby gives notice that the land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart and dedicated for the purposes of protection, maintenance, and management of trees and other plants, and for the protection of the natural environment and native wildlife, and for scientific purposes, especially ecological purposes. The area so dedicated will be known as Kopupounamu Ecological Area.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
This area is dedicated as an ecological area for the preservation and protection of the remaining indigenous forest of the north-easterly extremity of the Mouto Ecological District. It preserves podocarp-hardwood forest with a high podocarp density changing distinctly to montane red and silver beech forest with altitude.

Pursuant to section 15 of the Forests Act 1949 (as inserted by section 2 of the Forests Amendment Act 1973, and amended by section 5 of the Forests Amendment Act 1976), the Minister of Forests hereby gives notice that the land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart and dedicated for the purposes of protection, maintenance, and management of trees and other plants, and for the protection of the natural environment and native wildlife, and for scientific purposes, especially ecological purposes. The area so dedicated will be known as Whanokao Ecological Area.

This area is dedicated as an ecological area for the preservation and protection of an altitudinal sequence at the head of the Tapuaeroa River. It includes the stunted forest and sub-alpine vegetation of the summit of Mount Whanokao (1631 m asl) and a sequence of forest types down to 400 m asl.
