EXPLANATORY NOTE

This area is dedicated as an ecological area for the preservation and protection of a representative range of forest types and habitats within the State forest park. It consists of the upper catchment of the Raukokore River and the northern slopes of Mount Whanokao.

State Forest Land Set Apart as a Dedicated Area—Puketoetoe Ecological Area—Rotorua Conservancy

PURSUANT to section 15 of the Forests Act 1949 (as inserted by section 2 of the Forests Amendment Act 1973, and amended by section 5 of the Forests Amendment Act 1976), the Minister of Forests hereby gives notice that the land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart and dedicated for the purposes of protection, maintenance, and management of trees and other plants, and for the protection of the natural environment and native wildlife, and for scientific purposes, especially ecological purposes. The area so dedicated will be known as Puketoetoe Ecological Area.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This area is dedicated as an ecological area for the preservation and protection of a representative example of hard-beech dominated forest of the steep, rugged country typical of the north-western quarter of the State forest park. The reserve also includes exceptional mixtures for North Island indigenous forest of hard beech, silver beech, rimu and kaikawaka.

PURSUANT to section 18 of the Forests Act 1949, the Land Officer, New Zealand Forest Service, acting pursuant to a delegation from the Minister of Forests hereby sets apart as State forest land, with effect from the date of publication hereof, the land described in the Schedule hereto.
