  1. (a) Subject to the provisions of this clause an appointed member shall hold office for a period of 3 years, but may from time to time be reappointed.

(b) If any member dies or resigns his office by writing under his hand addressed to the board or the Chairman or the Secretary thereof, or is absent without leave from three consecutive meetings of the board, or while holding office becomes for any reason ineligible to remain a member, the casual vacancy so created shall be filled as soon as practicable thereafter by the appointment of a member in the manner in which the vacating member was appointed, and the member appointed to fill the vacancy shall hold office for the residue of the term of office of the member whom he replaces.

(c) Unless he sooner vacates his office, every appointed member of the board shall continue in office until his successor comes into office.

(d) Any co-opted member shall hold office at the pleasure of the board, or for a period not exceeding one year, but may if eligible be reappointed.

  1. The powers of the board shall not be affected by any vacancy in the membership thereof.

(a) A deputy member may be appointed, in the same manner as an appointed member, to be the deputy of that member and act in the event of the absence of the member from any meeting or meetings of the board.

(b) While any person is acting pursuant to sub-clause (a) of this clause, he shall be deemed to be a full member of the board. The fact that any person so acts shall be sufficient evidence of his authority to do so.

The Secondary School Grants Notice (No. 3) 1977

PURSUANT to regulation 3 of the Secondary School Grants Regulations 1974, and a determination jointly made by the Minister of Education and the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice:

NOTICE

  1. This notice may be cited as the Secondary School Grants Notice (No. 3) 1977.

  2. As from 1 April 1977, the basis of calculating the amount of grants made for general administration to the governing body of any school in accordance with the provisions of the Secondary Schools Grants Regulations 1974 shall be as follows:

(a) A grant payable in accordance with paragraph (a) of regulation 4 of the said regulations in respect of the number of pupils enrolled in each school under the control of the governing body shall be calculated as follows:

Number of Pupils for each School Governing Body Yearly rate of Payment per Pupil
For the first 300 pupils ..... $38.70
For the next 300 pupils ..... $15.80
For all pupils in excess of 600 $14.70

(b) A grant payable in accordance with paragraph (b) of regulation 4 of the said regulations in respect of the weekly teaching half-days spent in instructing and supervising technical and continuation day and evening classes shall be calculated as follows:

For all in classes that are non-vocational $50.60

(c) A grant payable in accordance with paragraph (c) of regulation 4 of the said regulations at the rate of $3.20 for every pupil who, on the first day of March in the year of the grant is enrolled for the purpose of attending any approved class for manual instruction, which grant shall be expended on the provision of materials for, and the incidental expenses of, all such classes.

(d) A grant payable in accordance with regulation 7 of the said regulations in respect of the actual cost of the wages of library assistants employed at schools under the control of the governing body in accordance with the following scale:

(e) A grant payable in accordance with regulation 8 of the said regulations in respect of the actual cost of the wages of persons employed as clerical assistants, laboratory assistants or nursing aides in each school under the control of the governing body in accordance with the following scale, for a period of 40 weeks, provided that the maximum number of hours to which a school is entitled in any year may be spread over a longer period than 40 weeks:

  1. The Secondary School Grants (No. 2) 1977 is hereby revoked.

(a) A grant payable in accordance with paragraph (a) of regulation 4 of the said regulations in respect of the number of pupils enrolled in each school under the control of the governing body shall be calculated as follows:

For all pupils in excess of 300 $11.50
