Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 4) 1977
PURSUANT to regulation 17 of the Import Control Regulations 1973*, the Acting Minister of Trade and Industry hereby gives notice as follows:
- (a) This notice may be cited as the Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 4) 1977.
(b) This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of notification in the Gazette. - Goods of the classes specified and for the purposes of the Customs Tariff falling within the Tariff items in the First Schedule hereto, imported from and being the produce or manufacture of any country, are hereby exempted from the requirement of a licence under the said regulations.
- The exemptions from the requirement of a licence under the said regulations in respect of the goods of the classes set forth in the Second Schedule hereto, included in the exempting notice shown in the Second Schedule, are hereby withdrawn.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
This note is not part of the notice but is intended to indicate its general effect.
This notice increases the CDV of the above goods subject to licence from $18 to $20 per 1000 rounds.
Price Order No. 54 (Californian Oranges—Valencia Variety)
PURSUANT to the Commerce Act 1975, I, Peter Edward Donovan, pursuant to a delegation from the Secretary of Trade and Industry hereby make the following price order:
- This order may be cited as Price Order No. 54 and shall come into force on the 29 day of April 1977.
- Price Order No. 45* is hereby amended by inserting after the words Californian oranges, the words navel variety.
APPLICATION OF THIS ORDER
- This order applies with respect to all Californian oranges, valencia variety, sold by way of retail in New Zealand.
MAXIMUM RETAIL PRICES OF CALIFORNIAN ORANGES—VALENCIA VARIETY
- (1) The maximum price that may be charged or received by any retailer for any Californian oranges, valencia variety, to which this order applies shall be:
(a) When sold by a retailer carrying on business in any of the metropolitan areas of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, or Dunedin, or in any of the Cities or Boroughs of Whangarei, Takapuna, Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Stratford, Hawera, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Napier, Hastings, Masterton, Blenheim, Nelson, Greymouth, Timaru, Westport, Oamaru, Balclutha, Gore, or Invercargill—
38 cents a lb.
Or where the scales used by the retailer weigh in metric weights—
84 cents a kilogram.
(b) When sold by a retailer carrying on business elsewhere—
39 cents a lb.
Or where the scales used by the retailer weigh in metric weights—
86 cents a kilogram.
(2) If in respect of any lot of valencia variety of oranges the price calculated in accordance with the foregoing provisions of this clause is not an exact number of cents, the maximum price of the lot shall be computed to the nearest whole cent.
PROVISIONS FOR SPECIAL PRICES
- Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the foregoing provisions of this order, and subject to such conditions, if any, as he thinks fit, the Secretary, on application by any retailer, may authorise special maximum prices in respect of any Californian oranges, valencia variety, to which this order applies where special circumstances exist, or for any reason extraordinary charges (freight or otherwise) are incurred by the retailer. Any authority given by the Secretary under this clause may apply with respect to a specified lot or consignment of oranges, or may relate generally to Californian oranges, valencia variety, which this order applies sold by the retailer while the approval remains in force.
DUTY IMPOSED ON RETAILERS
- Every retailer who offers or exposes for sale in any shop any Californian oranges, valencia variety, to which this order applies shall keep in a prominent position in such proximity to the oranges to which it relates as to be obviously in relation thereto, a ticket, placard, or label on which shall be stated in legible and prominent characters the following particulars:
(a) The retail price per pound of the valencia variety of oranges. Retailers to whom clause 5 (1) (b) of this order applies shall state at least the prices for 1 lb and 2 lb lots.
Or where the scales used by the retailer weigh in metric weights the price a kilogram.
(b) The word “Californian—valencia variety”.
