(b) Those paragraphs, in each of the said notices, which provide for one member who shall represent and who shall be elected by the staff of each polytechnic or technical institute, which is controlled by a board of governors or council, constituted under the said notices;
(c) Those paragraphs in each of the said notices (with the exception of the Technical Correspondence Institute Notice 1976) which provide for one member who shall represent and who shall be elected by the students of each polytechnic or technical institute, which is controlled by a board of governors or council, constituted under the said notices;
(d) Paragraph (m) of subclause(1) of clause 3 of the Otago Polytechnic Notice 1976.
- The following paragraphs prescribing the terms of office for the members appointed or elected, under the provisions specified in paragraphs (b), (c), and (d) of clause 3 of this notice, shall apply only until the date on which the term of office of the present board of governors or council, as the case may be, expires:
(a) The members elected under paragraph (c) of clause 3 of this notice may take office on the date, specified in that clause, and shall continue to hold office until the expiry date of the term of office of the present board of governors or council, as the case may be, or until the expiry of one year whichever is the sooner.
(b) The members appointed or elected under paragraphs (b) and (d) of clause 3 of this notice may take office on the date, specified in that clause, and shall continue to hold office until the date on which the term of office of the present board of governors or council, as the case may be, expires.

(ii) For the purposes of sub paragraph (i) of paragraph (1) of this clause a “student of the Polytechnic” shall be defined as “any student enrolled in a course of study at the Southland Polytechnic at the time of the calling of nominations for the election of the student representative”.
(m) Not more than three members co-opted by the Council itself, if and when it thinks fit, and for such term or terms as it thinks fit.
- (1) Subject to the provisions of this clause and the provisions of subparagraph (i) of paragraph (1), and paragraph (m) of clause 3 of this notice, the members of the Southland Polytechnic Council shall hold office for a term of 3 years, but may, from time to time, be re-appointed or re-elected.
(2) Except in the case of a casual vacancy, every member shall hold office until 31st day of May in the third year after the year of his appointment or election, and if, on the 31st day of May, the appointment or election of his successor has not been notified to the Council, he shall continue to hold office until the date on which the appointment or election is notified.
(3) If any member dies, or resigns his office by writing under his hand addressed to the Council or the Chairman or the Secretary thereof, or is absent without leave from the meetings of the Council for 3 consecutive months, or while holding office becomes for any reason ineligible to remain a member, the casual vacancy so created shall be filled, as soon as practicable thereafter, by the appointment or election of a member in the manner in which the vacating member was appointed or elected, and the member appointed or elected to fill the vacancy shall hold office for the residue of the term of office of the member whom he replaces.
(4) The powers of the Council shall not be affected by any vacancy in the membership thereof.
- The Southland Polytechnic Notice 1973* is hereby revoked.

Waikato Technical Institute Notice 1976
Pursuant to section 69 of the Education Act 1964, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice.
NOTICE
- (1) This notice may be cited as the Waikato Technical Institute Notice 1976.
(2) This notice shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Gazette.

There shall be a board of Governors which shall control the Waikato Technical Institute.

The Board of Governors of the Waikato Technical Institute shall be constituted as follows:
(a) One member elected by the members of the county councils comprising the No. 2 Ward of the New Zealand Counties Association;
(b) One member appointed by the South Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers (Inc.);
(c) One member appointed by the Waikato Branch of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry;
(d) One member appointed by the Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Waikato Provincial District) Inc.;
(e) One member appointed by the Waikato Manufacturers’ Association;
