(f) One member appointed by the South Auckland Branch
of the New Zealand Society of Accountants;
(g) Two members appointed by the Waikato District
Trades Council of the New Zealand Federation of
Labour;
(h) Two members elected by the associations of employers
in local industries;
(i) One member appointed by the Council of the University of Waikato;
(j) One member appointed by the Waikato Council of Building Trades;
(k) One member appointed by the Hamilton City Council;
(l) One member who shall be the Principal of the Waikato Technical Institute;
(m) One member who shall represent the staff of the Waikato Technical Institute, and who shall be elected by full-time teachers employed by the Council, and who shall himself be a teacher employed by the Council;
(n) (i) One member who shall represent the students of the Waikato Technical Institute, and who shall be elected to a term of office of one year by the students of the Institute, and who shall himself be a student of the Institute;
(ii) For the purposes of subparagraph (i) of paragraph (n) of this clause a “student of the Institute” shall be defined as “any student enrolled in a course of study at the Waikato Technical Institute at the time of the calling of nominations for the election of the student representative”.
(o) Four members co-opted by the Council itself, if and when it thinks fit.
3. The Regional Superintendent of Education, Auckland, or his deputy, shall be an associate member of the Council of the Waikato Technical Institute entitled to be present and to be heard at any meeting of the Council or of any committee of the Council; but he shall not be entitled to vote at any such meeting.
4. (1) Subject to the provisions of this clause and the provisions of subparagraph (i) of paragraph (n) of clause 3 of this notice, the members of the Council of the Waikato Technical Institute shall hold office for a term of three years, but may, from time to time, be re-appointed or re-elected.
(2) Except in the case of a casual vacancy, every member shall hold office until the 31st day of July in the third year after the year of his appointment or election, and if, on the 31st day of July, the appointment or election of his successor has not been notified to the Council, he shall continue to hold office until the date on which that appointment or election is notified.
(3) If any member dies, or resigns his office by writing under his hand addressed to the Council or the Chairman or the Secretary thereof, or is absent without leave from the meetings of the Council for three consecutive months, or while holding office becomes for any reason ineligible to remain a member, the casual vacancy so created shall be filled, as soon as practicable thereafter, by the appointment or election of a member in the manner in which the vacating member was appointed or elected, and the member appointed or elected to fill the vacancy shall hold office for the residue of the term of office of the member whom he replaces.
(4.) The powers of the Council shall not be affected by any vacancy in the membership thereof.

Otago Polytechnic Notice 1976
PURSUANT to section 69 of the Education Act 1964, the Minister of Education hereby gives the following notice.
NOTICE
- (1) This notice may be cited as the Otago Polytechnic Notice 1976.
(2) This notice shall come into force on the date of its publication in the Gazette. - (1) There shall be a board of governors for Otago Polytechnic, to be known as the Council of the Otago Polytechnic, which shall control the Otago Polytechnic.
- (1) The Council of the Otago Polytechnic shall be constituted as follows:
(a) One member, being a member of the Dunedin City Council, to be appointed by that Council;
(b) One member, being a registered architect and a member of the Otago Branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, to be appointed by that branch;
(c) One member, being a registered engineer and a member of the Otago Branch of the New Zealand Institution of Engineers, to be appointed by that branch;
(d) One member, being a member of the Otago Branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, to be appointed by that branch;
(e) One member, being a principal of one of the schools specified in the Schedule to this order, to be elected by the principals of those schools;
(f) Two members to be elected by the associations of employees in local industries;
(g) Two members to be elected by the associations of employers in local industries;
(h) One member to be appointed by the Otago-Southland Manufacturers' Association;
(i) One member to be appointed by the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce;
(j) One member, being a member of the Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Otago Provincial District) Inc., to be appointed by that body;
(k) One member, being a member of the Council of the University of Otago or of the senate of that university, to be appointed by the Council of the University of Otago;
(l) One member, who shall be a woman, to be appointed by the Otago Polytechnic Council at any time whenever there is no other woman member of the Council, and who shall hold office until the expiry of the term of office of the members of the Council by whom she was appointed.
(m) One member to be appointed by the Otago Hospital Board;
(n) One member who shall be the Principal of the Otago Polytechnic;
(o) One member who shall represent the staff of the Otago Polytechnic, and who shall be elected by full-time teachers employed by the Council, and who shall himself be a teacher employed by the Council;
(p) (i) One member who shall represent the students of the Otago Polytechnic, and who shall be elected to a term of office of one year by the students of the Polytechnic, and who shall himself be a student of the Polytechnic;
(ii) For the purposes of sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (p) of this clause a “student of the Polytechnic” shall be defined as “any student enrolled in a course of study at the Otago Polytechnic at the time of the calling of nominations for the election of the student representatives”;
(q) Five members to be co-opted by the Otago Polytechnic Council, if and when it thinks fit.
(2) The Minister of Education may, from time to time, by notice in the Gazette, amend the list of schools to which paragraph (e) of subclause (1) of this clause applies and to which the Schedule to this notice refers. - (1) Subject to the provisions of this clause and the provisions of paragraph (1) and subparagraph (i) of paragraph (p) of subclause (1) of clause 3 of this notice, the members of the Otago Polytechnic Council shall hold office for a term of three years, but may from time to time be reappointed or re-elected.
