CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL

NOTICE OF MAKING AND EFFECT OF RECOMMENDATION FOR A
CLEAN AIR ZONE IN THE CITY OF CHRISTCHURCH

NOTICE is hereby given (a) that the Christchurch City Council
has made a recommendation under the Clean Air Act 1972,
section 12, proposing the creation of the whole of the district
of The Christchurch City as a clean air zone. The general
effect of such recommendation is to promote the conserva-
tion of the air and the abatement of the pollution thereof
by imposing upon occupiers of all premises, including trade
and industrial premises, but excluding the yards and gardens
of dwellings where such premises are erected under building
permit issued on or after the 7th day of gazetting of the
Order in Council; and, in the case of scheduled premises,
licensed in respect of fuel-burning equipment where approval
has been granted by the licensing authority on or after the
7th day of gazetting of the Order in Council: the duty
of adopting the best practicable means to attain such results
by collecting and containing air pollutants and minimising
by appropriate process and control equipment, or otherwise,
the emission of air pollutants from premises, and to render
any air pollutant emitted therefrom harmless and inoffensive.
Reference is made to authorised fuels, authorised fuel-burning
equipment; installation, maintenance, and operation.

(b) A copy of the recommendation and a description of
the area comprising such zone described in the New Zealand
Gazette, No. 46, 25 July 1968, may be inspected at the
Christchurch City Council Chambers, 194 Manchester Street,
Christchurch, by any person free of charge between the
hours of 8.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m., Monday to Friday, during
a period of 6 weeks from the date of the last publication
of the notice.

(c) Within the said period any person who will be affected
