(d) Nominal wage rates. (N.B. Show changes in
the purchasing power of wages in relation to move-
ments in prices of fruit and vegetables.)
(N.B. It is desired that an indication should be
given of any significant differences in price move-
ments as between items which traditionally pass
through the auction system and those which do not
βnoting in the case of the latter the effect of any
changes in export realisations where appropriate.)
(5) The comparison of gross profits, operating costs, and
net margins currently being enjoyed or incurred by
wholesalers and retailers of fruit and vegetables with
such profits and expenses, enjoyed or incurred, 10
years ago.
(6) The reasonableness or otherwise of movements in net
profit rewards of wholesalers or retailers of fruit and
vegetables over the past 10 years; having regard to
the current level of profitability and to improve-
ments experienced over the period in question by
wholesale and retail industry in general and by
specific trades in particular.
(7) The steps if any which in the light of your findings on
the preceding terms of reference should be taken to
achieve greater stability in the prices of fruit and
vegetables.
5. In the inquiry into the distribution of fish the committee
shall have regard to such matters as may from time to time
be notified to it by the Minister of Industries and Commerce.
6. The Committee is authorised toβ(1) Hold public meet-
ings at which evidence can be presented;
(2) Hold closed sessions at which evidence of a confidential
nature can be heard;
(3) Require any person carrying on any business relating
to or affecting the subject-matter of the investigation to produce
for the inspection of the committee any papers, books, or
documents which are in the possession of that person, or to
set down in writing any facts relating to the subject-matter
of the investigation which are within the knowledge of that
person, or to allow copies of or extracts from any such papers,
books, or documents to be made by or on behalf of the
committee.
7. (1) Meetings of the committee shall be held at such
times and places as the committee or the Chairman from time
to time appoints.
(2) At any meeting of the committee, a member appointed
by the Chairman may preside in the absence of the Chairman.
(3) At any meeting three members of the committee shall
constitute a quorum.
(4) Subject to the provisions of this clause, the committee
may regulate its procedure in such manner as it thinks fit.
8. The committee shall submit its report and recommenda-
tions to the Minister of Industries and Commerce by 30
September 1972.
