Te Kauwhata Dependent Town District Merged in Waikato County

PURSUANT to the Local Government Commission Act 1961, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

O R D E R

1. This order shall take effect on the 1st day of April 1967.

2. The Te Kauwhata Dependent Town District is hereby merged in the County of Waikato and the council of the said dependent town district is hereby dissolved.

3. The area comprising the former Te Kauwhata Dependent Town District shall be a county town, within the Waerenga Riding of the County of Waikato, having the name of “Te Kauwhata”.

4. Until the date prescribed by law for the first triennial general elections of members of county councils held after the 1st day of April 1967, the members of the Te Kauwhata County Town Committee shall be the chairman and members of the former Te Kauwhata Town Council and the member of the Waikato County Council for the Waerenga Riding.

5. The provisions of Part XXX of the Counties Act 1956 shall apply in all respects as if the said county town had been constituted under section 417 of that Act.

6. Except as otherwise provided herein, or in the Local Government Commission Act 1961, the provisions of section 28 of the Counties Act 1956 shall apply in all respects in respect of the merger hereby effected, and the District Land Registrar for the South Auckland Land Registration District is hereby directed to make such entries in his Register, and to do all such other things as may be necessary to give effect to the provisions of this clause.

7. All the valuation rolls, electors lists, electors rolls, and rate books in force in the former Te Kauwhata Dependent Town District on the 31st day of March 1967 shall continue in force, and be deemed to be the valuation rolls, electors lists, electors rolls, and rate books in force in Te Kauwhata County Town until new valuation rolls, electors lists, electors rolls, and rate books are made for the said county town.
