Hearing of Objections to the Southland County District Scheme

THE Southland County Council hereby gives notice that the hearing of objections to the district scheme will commence at the Council Chambers, Clyde Street, Invercargill, at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday the 12th day of May 1966, and will continue as there arranged, from time to time and place to place, until all objectors and witnesses have been heard.

All persons who wish to be heard in support of or opposition to any objection shall notify the Council accordingly at least three days before that date.

The following is a summary of the subject matters of objections received by the Council:

Group I—Scheme Statement

1 Southland County Council Part III—Use Zoning—Amend Clause 1 to explain proposals for City expansion beyond its present boundaries.

Group II—Code of Ordinances

2 Southland County Council Ordinance II, Clause 2 (b)—Add “Unless the Council and any other Local Authority or Government Department having jurisdiction is satisfied that the industry will not substantially detract from the amenities of the area.”
3 Invercargill City Council Ordinance II, Clause 1, (5) (b) (iii)—Interline after word “occupier”, the words “or adjacent Local Authority.”
4 Invercargill City Council (1) Ordinance II, Clause 2, 1 (b) (i)—Delete the following sentence: “or for any industry which is ancillary to farming of any kind and not being one of the industries listed in Appendix I hereto or any other industry with noxious or dangerous aspects.”
(2) Ordinance II, Clause 2, 1 (b) (iii)—Delete the words: “and any other undertaking which is ancillary to the forestry and timber industries, not being one of the industries listed in Appendix I hereto or any other industry with noxious or dangerous aspects.”
(3) Ordinance II, Clause 2, 1 (b) (ix)—Amend to provide that uses in this paragraph be not permitted from a specific distance from an urban boundary, being not less than 8 miles from such boundary.
