At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 28th day of
February 1966

Present:

THE RIGHT HON. KEITH HOLYOAKE, C.H., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL
PURSUANT to the Local Government Commission Act 1961,
His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes
the following order.


ORDER

  1. On and from the 1st day of April 1966 the area described
    in the Schedule hereto shall be excluded from the County of
    Clifton and included in the Borough of Waitara.
  2. The alteration of the boundaries of the said county and
    the said borough shall be deemed to have been effected under
    the Municipal Corporations Act 1954.

SCHEDULE

ALL that area in the Taranaki Land District comprising portion
of the Clifton County, bounded by a line commencing at a
point on the western side of East Quay in line with the
southern side of Howard Street and proceeding easterly to and
along the southern side of Howard Street to the eastern side
of Sarten Street; thence northerly along a right line, being
the production of the eastern side of Sarten Street, to the
northern side of Howard Street; thence westerly along the
northern side of Howard Street to the eastern boundary of
Section 81A, Waitara East District; thence northerly along that
boundary and the eastern boundary of Section 81B, Waitara
East District, to the mean high-water mark of the Tasman Sea;
thence westerly generally along the mean high-water mark to
and southerly generally along the right bank of the Waitara
River to the northern side of Howard Street; thence westerly
along the northern side of that street to and southerly along
the western side of East Quay to the point of commencement.

Whakatane County, containing 800 acres, more or less, bounded
by a line commencing at a point on the boundary of the
Whakatane Borough, as described by the N.Z. Gazette, 1962,
page 866; 2 chains northeast from the right bank of the
Wairere Stream, situated in Block II, Whakatane Survey
District, and proceeding generally south-easterly and generally
south-westerly along a series of right lines bearing 153° 00′,
distance 1050 links; 126° 30′, 3250 links; 219° 00′, 2450 links,
crossing the intervening Ohope Road; 252° 01′, 1263 links, and
bearing 292° 36′ to and generally southerly and generally
northerly along the generally eastern and generally

western boundaries of part Lot 1, D.P. 28698 (flood
control purposes, N.Z. Gazette, 1954, p. 2063), to
survey peg IV, S.O. plan 36690; thence generally south-
westerly along a series of right lines bearing 205° 24′, 275 links;
221° 25′, 622 links; 243° 01′, 439·1 links; 190° 00′ 359·2 links;
217° 44′, 100 links; and 275° 35′ to and generally north-
easterly along the generally south-eastern boundary of the
Whakatane Borough, hereinbefore mentioned, to the point of
commencement.

as a Maori reservation for the purpose of a meeting place for
the common use and benefit of the Maori people of New
Zealand generally.
