Declaring Land, South Auckland Land District, to be a
Wildlife Sanctuary

COBHAM, Governor-General
A PROCLAMATION

PURSUANT to section 9 of the Wildlife Act 1953, I, Charles John, Viscount Cobham, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby proclaim and declare the area of land described in the Schedule hereto to be a wildlife sanctuary for the purposes of the said Wildlife Act, and the following conditions shall apply to the sanctuary—

(1) The right of entry to the sanctuary is hereby restricted to those persons authorised in writing by the Secretary for Internal Affairs.

(2) The hunting or killing, taking for any purpose, molesting, capturing, disturbing, harrying, or worrying of any living creature in the sanctuary, the taking, destruction, or disturbance of the eggs or spawn of any such creature, the taking for any purpose or interference with vegetation of any description in the sanctuary, the introduction or liberation in the sanctuary of any living creature or the eggs or spawn of any living creature, or the introduction or planting in the sanctuary of any vegetation of any description, or the spores or seeds of any vegetation of any description, is hereby prohibited except pursuant to an authority issued by the Secretary for Internal Affairs for that purpose.

(3) The burning or clearing by any means whatsoever of any trees, shrubs, grasses, or other plant life on the sanctuary is hereby prohibited except pursuant to an authority issued by the Secretary for Internal Affairs for that purpose.

(4) Camping in the sanctuary is hereby prohibited except pursuant to an authority issued by the Secretary for Internal Affairs for that purpose.

(5) The lighting of fires or the doing of anything likely to cause a fire on the sanctuary is hereby prohibited except pursuant to an authority issued by the Secretary for Internal Affairs for that purpose.

(6) The taking of firearms or explosives on or onto the sanctuary or the use of firearms or explosives in the sanctuary is hereby prohibited except pursuant to an authority issued by the Secretary for Internal Affairs for that purpose.

(7) The taking or keeping of domestic animals or domestic birds into or in the sanctuary is hereby prohibited except pursuant to an authority issued by the Secretary for Internal Affairs for that purpose.

(8) The depositing of rubbish or the leaving of litter in the sanctuary is hereby prohibited.

KAREWA West and Karewa East Blocks (Karewa Island in the Bay of Plenty), situated in Block IV, Matakana Survey District: Area, 8 acres 3 roods 12 perches, more or less. As shown on the plan marked I.A. 52/30, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red. (M.L. Plan 5619 and S.O. Plan 19411.)

Amending Declaration of Land in the Wellington Acclimatisation District to be a Wildlife Refuge

A PROCLAMATION

PURSUANT to section 14 of the Wildlife Act 1953, I, Charles John, Viscount Cobham, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby revoke the Warrant, published in Gazette, 23 July 1953, page 1184, notifying and declaring certain areas to be refuges under the said Act and only to the extent appearing in the First Schedule hereto, and proclaim and declare the area described in the Second Schedule hereto to be a wildlife refuge in the Wellington Acclimatisation District for the purpose of the Wildlife Act 1953.

FIRST SCHEDULE

WELLINGTON LAND DISTRICT—WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY

PART Lots 13 and 16, Deposited Plan No. 3680, being part Sections 107, 107A, 108, 109, and 110, Taratahi Plain Block, also Waikoukou-Tauanui Nos. 7A, 7B, 7C, 7D, and 8, situated in Blocks XII and XVI, Tiffin Survey District: Area, 330 acres 1 rood 29·6 perches, more or less. All of certificates of title, Volume 463, folios 110 and 113, Volume 288, folios 207 and 210, Volume 322, folio 163, Volume 207, folio 204, and Volume 89, folio 173 (M.L. Plans 1729 and 3063). PURSUANT to section 14 of the Wildlife Act 1953, I, Charles John, Viscount Cobham, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby revoke the Warrant published in Gazette, 21 February 1929, page 451, notifying and declaring certain areas to be refuges under the said Act, and to only the extent appearing in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE

  1. LAKE GRASSMERE

ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the south side of Marfells Beach Road at the northernmost corner of Section 2, Block III, Cape Campbell Survey District; thence proceeding along a right line bearing 36° 30′ for a distance of 78 chains approximately to a point in Section 15, Block III, Cape Campbell Survey District, 5 chains distant from the boundary of Lake Grassmere; thence generally northerly, westerly, southerly, and easterly along a line parallel to and distant 5 chains from the boundary of Lake Grassmere to a point bearing 216° 30′ from the point of commencement; thence north-easterly along a right line of bearing 36° 30′ to the point of commencement. As the same is shown in plan marked I.A. 52/295 deposited in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red.
