Amending Declaration of Land in the Marlborough Acclimatisation District as a Wildlife Refuge

COBHAM, Governor-General
A PROCLAMATION
PURSUANT to section 14 of the Wildlife Act 1953, I, Charles John, Viscount Cobham, the Governor-General of New Zealand, hereby revoke the Warrant published in Gazette, 10 January 1957, Volume I, page 7, notifying and declaring certain areas to be refuges under the said Act, and to only the extent appearing in the First Schedule hereto, and I proclaim and declare the areas described in the Second Schedule hereto to be wildlife refuges for the purposes of the Wildlife Act 1953.

FIRST SCHEDULE
2. LAKE GRASSMERE
ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District known as Lake Grassmere, and the area within a line running parallel to and 5 chains distant from the margin of the said lake, and as may be further delineated on the plan marked I.A. 52/295 deposited in the Head Office of the Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red.

  1. WAIRAU LAGOON
    Area around Wairau River: All that area in the Marlborough Land District bounded towards the north-east by the ocean from the north-western end of the Boulder Bank, at the mouth of the Wairau River, to the south-eastern end of the Boulder Bank, at the north-eastern corner of Section 10 of Block II, Omaka, situate in Block III, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence towards the south generally by that section, Section 8 of Block I, Wakefield Downs, and Section 9 of Block II, Omaka, both of which sections are situate in Block III, Clifford Bay Survey District, to a point 5 chains distant from high-water mark of the Big Lagoon; thence by a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from high-water mark of the Big Lagoon through Sections 9 of Block II, Omaka, and 7 of Block I, Wakefield Downs, both of which sections are situate in Block III, Clifford Bay Survey District, to the channel between the Big Lagoon and Chandler’s Lagoon; thence towards the west generally by the said channel to a small lagoon in Section 5, Opawa, situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence by the western side of that lagoon and a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from high-water mark of the Big Lagoon, through Section 5, Opawa, public road, Crown land, and Section 3, Opawa, all of which sections are situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District aforesaid, to the channel in Section 3, Opawa, situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence by that channel through Sections 3, 4, 6, 9, Opawa, situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District aforesaid, and a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from high-water mark, through Section 9, Opawa, public road, 7, Opawa, public road, 8, Opawa, all of which are situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District aforesaid, to the southern side of the estuary of the Wairau River; thence by a right line across the said estuary in the direction of the pilot station to the west side of the mouth of the Wairau River; and thence by a right line to the north-western end of the Boulder Bank, the place of commencement. As the same is shown on plan marked I.A. 52/44 deposited in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red.

SECOND SCHEDULE

  1. LAKE GRASSMERE
    ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the south side of Marfells Beach Road at the northernmost corner of Section 2, Block III, Cape Campbell Survey District; thence proceeding along a right line bearing 36° 30′ for a distance of 78 chains approximately to a point in Section 15, Block III, Cape Campbell Survey District, 5 chains distant from the boundary of Lake Grassmere; thence generally northerly, westerly, southerly, and easterly along a line parallel to and distant 5 chains from the boundary of Lake Grassmere to a point bearing 216° 30′ from the point of commencement; thence north-easterly along a right line of bearing 36° 30′ to the point of commencement. As the same is shown on plan marked I.A. 52/295 deposited in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red.

  2. WAIRAU LAGOON
    All that area in the Marlborough Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the mean high-water mark of the sea at the northern corner of Section 10, Block II, Omaka Registration District, situate in Block II, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence proceeding south-westerly generally along the north-western boundaries of the said Section 10, Block II, and Section 8, Block I, Wakefield Downs Registration District, to the north-eastern corner of Section 9, Block II, Omaka Registration District; thence north-westerly along the north-eastern boundary of the said Section 9, Block II, to its intersection with a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from the mean high-water mark of the Big Lagoon; thence westerly generally along the said line parallel to and 5 chains distant from the mean high-water mark of the Big Lagoon, through Section 9, Block II, Omaka Registration District, part Section 7, Block I, Wakefield Downs Registration District in Block III, Clifford Bay Survey District, and Wairau Harbour Board Endowment Land in Block II, Clifford Bay Survey District, to the western bank of a channel at a point bearing 13° and .distant 650 links approximately from the north-eastern corner of part Section 13, Wairau Registration District, in Block II aforesaid; thence generally southerly, westerly, and north-westerly along the western, northern, and north-eastern banks of the said channel to a point bearing 307° approximately and distant 2200 links from the aforesaid north-eastern corner of part Section 13; thence on a bearing of 313° 30′ for a distance of 3200 links; thence on a bearing of 24° for a distance of 2700 links; thence on a bearing of 57° for a distance of 5800 links; thence on a bearing of 10° for a distance of approximately 9700 links to the mean high-water mark of the sea in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence south-easterly along the said mean high-water mark to the point of commencement. As the same is shown on the plan marked I.A. 52/44 deposited in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red.

Conway Rabbit District Order 1959 (Notice No. Ag. 6704)

ORDER IN COUNCIL
At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 24th day of March 1959

Present:
THE RIGHT HON. W. NASH PRESIDING IN COUNCIL

PURSUANT to the Rabbits Act 1955, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby makes the following order.

ORDER

  1. (1) This order may be cited as the Conway Rabbit District Order 1959.
    (2) This order shall come into force on the day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.
  2. The boundaries of the Conway Rabbit District, which was constituted by Order in Council on the 17th day of November 1948,* are hereby altered and redefined and, as from the commencement of this order, the boundaries of the said district shall be those specified in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF THE CONWAY RABBIT DISTRICT
ALL that area in the Marlborough Land District, County of Kaikoura, containing 200,950 acres, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the mean high-water mark of the sea and the middle of the Conway River; thence westerly and northerly generally along the middle of the Conway River to its source; thence northerly generally by a right line to Palmer Saddle in Block XI, Acheron Survey District; thence north-easterly generally along the summit of the Seaward Kaikoura Range to the Trig known as “Snowflake” in Block IX, Greenburn Survey District; thence southerly generally by the western boundaries of Run 128, Block IX, Greenburn Survey District, to the northernmost corner of Run 128A; thence southerly and south-easterly generally along the western and south-western boundaries of Run 128A to the right bank of the Kowhai River; and by the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the left bank of the Kowhai River; thence north-easterly generally along the said left bank to a right line forming part of the western boundary of Run 125; thence northerly generally along the said western boundary (Blocks XII and I, Mount Fyffe Survey District), to the boundary between Mount Fyffe and Kaitarau Survey Districts; thence easterly along the said survey district boundary to the right bank of the Hapuku River; thence south-easterly generally along the said right bank to the mean high-water mark of the sea; thence southerly, easterly, and westerly generally by the said mean high-water mark to the point of commencement.
