Declaring Public Highway to be Main Highway: Designating Main Highway to be State Highway

PURSUANT to sections 11 and 12 of the National Roads Act 1953, the National Roads Board, acting with the written approval of the Minister of Works, hereby gives notice as follows:

  1. The public highway described in the Schedule hereto is hereby declared to be main highway within the meaning and for the purposes of the National Roads Act 1953.

  2. The main highway described in the Schedule hereto is hereby designated State highway and shall form part of the Wellington-Paekakariki-Centennial State Highway.

  3. This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the Gazette.

SCHEDULE

ROADS COUNCIL DISTRICT No. 9B

WELLINGTON-PAEKAKARIKI-CENTENNIAL: All that public highway in the City of Wellington commencing at the junction of Taranaki Street and Wakefield Street and proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction via Jervois Quay, Customhouse Quay, Waterloo Quay, Aotea Quay, and Hutt Road, and terminating at the said City boundary 11 chains south of Ngauranga junction, being a distance of 3 miles 70 chains, more or less.

Commencing again in Johnsonville at the said City boundary at the junction of Frazer Avenue and Main Street Johnsonville and proceeding thence generally in a northerly direction via Main Street and terminating at the junction of Main Street, Petherick Crescent, and the Wellington-Foxton motorway, being a distance of 30 chains, more or less, the overall total distance in Wellington City being 4 miles 20 chains; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D 155766 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured purple.

WOODVILLE-MASTERTON: All that public highway in the Borough of Masterton commencing at the north boundary of he said Borough opposite Lot 1, D.P. 16830, and proceeding thence generally in a southerly and south-westerly direction via Opaki Road and Queen Street and terminating at the junction of Queen Street and Church Street, being a distance of 1 mile 10 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155764 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

MASTERTON-WELLINGTON: All that public highway in the Borough of Masterton commencing at the junction of Queen Street and Church Street and proceeding thence generally in a south-westerly direction via Queen Street and High Street and terminating at the southern boundary of the said Borough at the junction of High Street, Manaia Road, and Solway Crescent, opposite Lot 17, D.P. 17684, being a distance of 2 miles 15 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155764 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured green.

PICTON-CHRISTCHURCH: All those roads or streets or portions thereof in the Borough of Blenheim commencing at the northern boundary of the Borough of Blenheim at a point on the Opawa River Bridge, approximately 2 chains from the south-western end, and proceeding thence generally in a southerly, easterly, and south-easterly direction via Grove Road, Sinclair Street, High Street Bridge, Bradford Quay, Redwood Street, Main Street, and terminating at the eastern boundary of the Borough of Blenheim at a point approximately 2 chains south-east of Lybster Street, being a distance of 1 mile 48 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 156050 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

BLENHEIM-NELSON: All those roads or streets or portions thereof in the Borough of Blenheim commencing at the corner of High Street and Bradford Quay, 1 chain from the western end of High Street Bridge, and proceeding thence generally in a westerly direction via High Street, Boyce Street, and Middle Renwick Road, terminating at the western boundary of the Borough of Blenheim at a point approximately 3 chains west of Battys Road, being a distance of 1 mile 37 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 156050 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured yellow.

Also all those roads or streets or portions thereof in the City of Nelson commencing at the northern boundary of the City of Nelson at the south-west boundary of part Section 1,
