Declaring Public Highway to be Main Highway: Designating Main Highway to be State Highway

PURSUANT to sections 11 and 12 of the National Roads Act 1953, the National Roads Board, acting with the written approval of the Minister of Works, hereby gives notice as follows:

1. The public highway described in the Schedule hereto is hereby declared to be main highway within the meaning and for the purposes of the National Roads Act 1953.

2. The main highway described in the Schedule hereto is hereby designated State highway and shall form part of the Hawera-Wanganui State Highway.

3. This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the Gazette.

SCHEDULE

ROADS COUNCIL DISTRICT No. 8

HAWERA-WANGANUI: All that public highway in the City of Wanganui commencing at a point opposite the northern corner of part Lot 7, Block 5, Westmere Survey District, D.P. 3399, being the northern boundary of the City of Wanganui; thence proceeding generally in a south-easterly direction by way of Great North Road and Victoria Avenue to the middle line of Ridgway Street at its junction with Victoria Avenue, being a distance of 2 miles 12 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155695 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

WANGANUI-LEVIN: All that public highway in the City of Wanganui commencing at the middle line of Ridgway Street at its junction with Victoria Avenue; thence proceeding generally in a south-easterly and southerly direction by way of Victoria Avenue, the Wanganui Town Bridge, and Anzac Parade, to a point opposite the western corner of Lot 2, D.P. 13500, Block 5, Ikitara Survey District, at the boundary of the City of Wanganui with the County of Wanganui, being a distance of 46 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155695 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured green.

NATIONAL PARK - WANGANUI: All that public highway in the City of Wanganui commencing at a point opposite the centre line of Paul's Road near the western corner of Lot 1, Section 93, Block 2, Ikitara Survey District, D.P. 9876, being the boundary of the City of Wanganui with the County of Wanganui; thence proceeding in a south-westerly and southerly direction by way of Anzac Parade to the junction of Anzac Parade with Blythe Street opposite the northern corner of Te Kaiate No. 1 Block, Block 5, Ikitara Survey District, being a distance of 2 miles 66 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155695 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured brown.

SANSON - PALMERSTON NORTH: All that public highway within the City of Palmerston North commencing at the projection of the north-west boundary of Rural Section 424, Township of Palmerston North, and proceeding thence in a south-easterly direction by way of Rangitikei Line to the north-west boundary of the railway reserve and recommencing at the south-east boundary of the railway reserve and proceeding thence in a south-easterly direction by way of Rangitikei Line and Rangitikei Street to the Square and thence in a north-easterly and south-easterly direction round the Square and terminating at the boundary of the reserve of the Wellington - New Plymouth Railway, being a distance of 1 mile 56 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 156734 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured yellow.

LEVIN - PALMERSTON NORTH: All that public highway within the City of Palmerston North commencing at the right bank of the Manawatu River and proceeding thence in a north-westerly direction along Fitzherbert Avenue to its junction with the Square; thence round the Square in a north-easterly and north-westerly direction to the boundary of the reserve of the Wellington - New Plymouth Railway, being a distance of 1 mile 31 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 156735 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured yellow.
