Declaring Public Highway to be Main Highway: Designating Main Highway to be State Highway

PURSUANT to sections 11 and 12 of the National Roads Act 1953, the National Roads Board, acting with the written approval of the Minister of Works, hereby gives notice as follows:

  1. The public highway described in the Schedule hereto is hereby declared to be main highway within the meaning and for the purposes of the National Roads Act 1953.

  2. The main highway described in the Schedule hereto is hereby designated State highway and shall form part of the Gisborne-Napier via Hangaroa State Highway.

  3. This notice shall come into force on the day after the date of its publication in the Gazette.

SCHEDULE

ROADS COUNCIL DISTRICT No. 4

GISBORNE-NAPIER VIA HANGAROA: All that road or portion of road in the City of Gisborne commencing at the intersection of Reads Quay and Gladstone Road and proceeding thence in a north-westerly direction via Gladstone Road and terminating at the western boundary of the said Gisborne City being a point 37 chains west of the junction with Chalmers Road and being a distance of 2 miles 37 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 156432 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured green and marked AB.

ROADS COUNCIL DISTRICT No. 5

GISBORNE-NAPIER VIA HANGAROA: All that public highway in the City of Napier commencing at the junction of Gisborne-Napier via Hangaroa State Highway with Hyderabad Road at the western boundary of the City of Napier and proceeding thence generally in an easterly direction by way of Hyderabad Road and Thackeray Street and terminating at the intersection of Thackeray Street with Munroe and Dickens Streets at Clive Square, being a distance of 79 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155827 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

Dated at Wellington this 2nd day of September 1958.

SCHEDULE

ROADS COUNCIL DISTRICT No. 5

NAPIER - PALMERSTON NORTH: All that public highway in the City of Napier commencing at the intersection of Thackeray and Dickens Streets with Munroe Street at Clive Square and proceeding thence generally in a south-easterly and southerly direction by way of Munroe, Hastings, and Warren Streets,

and Marine Parade, and terminating at the intersection of Ellison Street with Marine Parade at the south-eastern boundary of the said City of Napier, being a distance of 1 mile 16 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155828 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

Also all that public highway in the City of Hastings commencing at the north-eastern boundary of the City of Hastings at a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Lot 3, D.P. 8423, and proceeding thence generally in a south-westerly direction by way of Karamu Road, Eastbourne Street, and Railway Road, and terminating at the intersection of Railway Road with Murdock Road at the south-western boundary of the said City of Hastings, being a distance of 2 miles 2 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155829 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

NEW PLYMOUTH - HAWERA: All those streets in the City of New Plymouth commencing at the intersection of Elliot Street and Devon Street and proceeding thence in a south-easterly direction by way of Elliot Street and Coronation Avenue to the junction of Tarahua Road and Junction Road at the New Plymouth City boundary, a distance of 1 mile 58 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155807 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured blue.

Dated at Wellington this 2nd day of September 1958.

TE KUITI - NEW PLYMOUTH: All those streets in the City of New Plymouth commencing at the City boundary at the west bank of the Waiwakaiho River at the eastern end of Devon Street and proceeding thence by way of Devon Street in a westerly direction to Sackvills Street junction and thence by way of Devon Street in a south-westerly direction terminating at the western side of the Queen Street junction at the New Plymouth Post Office, a distance of 2 miles 10 chains, more or less; as the same is more particularly delineated on plan P.W.D. 155806 deposited in the office of the National Roads Board at Wellington, and thereon coloured red.
