notice of an election to fill an extraordinary vacancy, by resolution allocate its prescribed number of votes to one of the candidates and lodge a sealed copy of such resolution with the Returning Officer within forty-eight hours after the passing of the resolution.
- It shall be the duty of the Mayor or Chairman of each local authority to cause meetings of such local authority to be held whenever necessary-
(a) For the purpose of nominating a candidate (such meetings to be held so that any nomination decided on can be lodged with the Returning Officer within the time specified by clause 15 hereof).
(b) For the purpose of conducting an election (such meet- ings to be held within the time specified by clause 16 hereof).

In the event of an equality of votes, the Returning Officer shall have a casting vote to enable the issue to be decided.

The Returning Officer shall give public notice of the result of the election and report that result to each local authority and to the Minister of Internal Affairs.

No failure on the part of any local authority to hold any meeting as hereby prescribed, or to carry at such a meeting a resolution allocating its votes, or to lodge a sealed copy of such resolution with the Returning Officer within the time hereby prescribed, or otherwise to exercise its power of voting shall affect the validity of any election.

Every city member shall be deemed to be elected when the notice of his election given by the Town Clerk is received by the Returning Officer, and every local authority member shall be deemed to be elected when public notice of the result of the election is given by the Returning Officer.

Union of Borough of Cambridge and Town District of Leamington

At the Government Buildings at Wellington this 31st day of March 1958
Present:
THE HON. C. F. SKINNER, M.C., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL PURSUANT to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby declares:

That as on and from the 1st day of April 1958 the Borough of Cambridge and the Town District of Leamington shall be constituted a united borough by the name of the Borough of Cambridge.

That the united Borough of Cambridge shall be divided into two wards and that the names of those wards shall be respectively the Cambridge Ward and the Leamington Ward.

That the area comprising the existing Borough of Cambridge shall form the Cambridge Ward and the area comprising the existing Town District of Leamington shall form the Leamington Ward.

That the number of Councillors of the united Borough of Cambridge to be elected at the first triennial election of Councillors after the date aforesaid, exclusive of the Mayor, shall be eleven of whom eight shall represent the Cambridge Ward and three shall represent the Leamington Ward.

That Frank Truman Ray, Town Clerk of the existing Borough of Cambridge, shall be Town Clerk and Returning Officer of the united Borough of Cambridge.

That for the purpose of choosing the three members of the Leamington Town Council to be Councillors of the united Borough of Cambridge, but for no other purpose, that Council may continue in office after the 31st day of March 1958.

That the said union shall be deemed to have been effected under the Municipal Corporations Act 1954.

SKINNER, M.C., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL PURSUANT to section 89 of the Municipal Corporations Act 1954, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby authorises the Mount Albert Borough Council to deposit money with the Auckland Metropolitan Drainage Board for any period or periods ending not later than the 31st day of March 1961.

SKINNER, M.C., PRESIDING IN COUNCIL PURSUANT to section 439 of the Maori Affairs Act 1953, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby sets apart the Maori freehold land described in the Schedule hereto as a Maori reservation for the common use and benefit of the Te Uriohikihiki subtribe of Ngatiwai as a meeting place.
