Present:
THE HON. J. R. MARSHALL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL
Pursuant to section 10 of the National Parks Act 1952, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby declares that the land described in the Schedule hereto, being Crown land subject to the provisions of the Land Act 1948, shall as from the date hereof be added to and form part of the Urewera National Park, and such land shall hereafter be subject to the provisions of the first-mentioned Act.
SCHEDULE
SOUTH AUCKLAND AND GISBORNE LAND DISTRICTS
All that area containing 334,300 acres, approximately, in the South Auckland and Gisborne Land Districts in the Whakatane, Opotiki, Waikohu, and Wairoa Counties: Bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block VIII, Rangitaiki Lower Survey District, being the north-eastern corner of Mokorua Block and running easterly generally along the southern boundaries of Ruatoki Nos. 2A, 3c, 3B, and 3A 1E Blocks to Trig. Station 2084 (Whakarimarima) in Block V, Waimana Survey District; thence southerly generally along the western boundaries of Opoukehu, Te Rara, and Wharekokoru Blocks, the southern boundary of Hakorae Block to and up the left bank of the Whakatane River, to and along the northern and western boundaries of Onananaea Block, the western boundary generally of Te Uira, Te Kiwi, and part Patiti Blocks, the northern boundary of Te Puhi Block, the generally western and southern boundaries of another part Patiti Block, along the southern boundaries of Te Puhi Block aforementioned, and part Patiti Block, the south-western boundary of Tewhatewha Block and the western boundary of Moerangi Block to and up the left bank of the Whakatane River to a point in line with the southern boundary of Poutere O Potaka Block; thence along a right line across that river to and generally northerly along the southern and eastern boundaries of the last-mentioned Block, across a public road, along the generally southern and eastern boundaries of Moerangi Block aforesaid, the eastern boundary of Tunanui Block, the north-eastern boundary of Rewatu Block, along the eastern boundary of Section 1, Block II, Urewera Survey District; to the north-eastern corner of that Section 1; thence along a right line across a public road and the Ohora Stream to and along the northern boundary of a river-bank reserve forming the southern boundary of Ngamahanga Block, along the eastern boundary of Ngamahanga Block aforesaid, the eastern and north-eastern boundaries of a part Otaneuri Block to and southerly and again northerly along the south-eastern, western, and north-western boundaries of the river-bank reserves along the Otaneuri Stream to and along the north-eastern boundary of Waiharuru Block, the eastern and northern boundaries of Rangatipih Block, the western and north-western boundaries of Section 1, Block X, Waimana Survey District, along the eastern boundaries of Hokowhitu A Tu Block, the eastern boundaries of Tapuiwahine and Waitapu Blocks, the south-eastern boundary of Poutere Block, to and generally easterly along the southern boundary of Tuturitanga Block, the western and southern boundaries of part Section 1, Block VI, Waimana Survey District, along the southern boundaries of Otekura and Te Urutawa Blocks, along the western side of a public road, along the northern, western, southern, and eastern boundaries of Otohora Block, along the eastern side of the aforesaid public road, to and along the south-western, southern, eastern, and north-eastern boundaries of Te Korapa Block, along the end of a public road, along the south-eastern boundary of Kaihapuku Block, the western, southern, and eastern boundaries of Keteanaoa Block, along the eastern boundary of Te Pa O Tama Ruarangi Block, to and generally southerly along the generally southern boundary of Lot 6, D.P. 29877, being part Waimana No. 1c 2 Block, along the south-western boundary of Waimana No. 1D 1B 2B 1 Block, along the south-western boundary of Tahora No. 2A D 2 Block to and along the northern, western, and south-western boundaries of Whanganui Block, along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced across a public road to and up the left bank of the Waimana River, along the generally western boundaries of Opunua, Otuiti, Tuapou, Opuatawhiro, Hukanui, Papaohaki, and Te Rere Blocks, the northern and western boundaries of Kotipu and Te Kaawa Blocks, along the western and southern boundaries of Whakarae Block, along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced across a public road to and up the left bank of the Waimana River aforesaid, to a point in line with the southern boundary of Te Taura A Te Pukuatua Block; thence along a right line across the last-mentioned river to and generally northerly along the southern and eastern boundaries of that Block, along the generally eastern and northern boundaries of Panewhero Block, along the eastern side of a public road to and along the southern, eastern, and northern boundaries of Ahirau Block, down the
right bank of the Waimana River to and along the south-eastern boundary of Te Huingaangakaahu Block, the south-eastern, eastern, and north-eastern boundaries of Nahunahu Block, again down the right bank of the Waimana River to and along the southern boundary of Taumataohine Block to and south-easterly along a right line between Trig. Station Taumata O Huna in Block VII, Waimana Survey District, and Trig. Station B 2161 (Kaharoa) in Block II, Waioeka South Survey District, to the last-mentioned Trig. Station; thence along another right line to the northern corner of Paharakeke Block in Block XIV, Waioeka South Survey District; thence generally south-westerly along the generally western boundary of that block to the north-western corner of Manuoha Block; thence still south-westerly along the generally northern and north-western boundaries of the Urewera National Park as described in Gazette, 1954, page 1211, to and along the north-eastern, north-western, and south-western boundaries of Maungapohatu Mountain Burial Reserve to and again along the north-western boundary of the Urewera National Park, described aforesaid, to the Maungataniwha Trig. Station in Block XIV, Tuwatawata Survey District; thence north-westerly along the north-eastern boundary of Heruiwi No. 4D Block (State forest, Gazette, 1932, page 2507), to and generally north-easterly along the south-eastern boundary of part Urewera A Block (State forest, Gazette, 1944, page 627), to and along the southern and south-eastern boundaries of Mangapai Block, the south-western boundary of Papueru Block, the south-western and southern boundaries of Ahiherua Block, the south-eastern boundaries of Hiwiotewera, part Wharekakaho and Tehuia Blocks, along the southern, eastern, and northern boundaries of Whakapau Block, the eastern boundary of Kopuhaea Block, the eastern and northern boundaries of Maurea Block, the eastern boundary of part Apiti-hana Block, along the southern and eastern boundaries of Ruahine Block, along the eastern side of a public road to and along the south-eastern, southern, eastern, and northern boundaries of Paketihau Block, the eastern and northern boundaries of Tutu and Taumapou Blocks, and along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced across a public road and the Whakatane River to and up the left bank of that river to and along the generally western boundary of Tutu, Paketihau, and Ruahine Blocks, up the left bank of the Whakatane River, the north-western boundaries of Paripari and Houhi Blocks, the generally northern boundary of part Apitihana Block, the north-eastern boundary of Tieke Block, along the generally eastern boundaries of Te Whatuamawaki, Wharetangata, and Kopua Blocks, the southern and eastern boundaries of Te Roto Block, along the eastern and northern boundaries of Hauwai Block, to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Ohau Block; thence along a right line across a public road to and along the generally eastern, northern, and north-western boundaries of Ohau Block aforesaid, along northern boundaries of Hauwai and Te Roto Blocks aforementioned, along the northern, western, and southern boundaries of Tiritiri Block, along the southern side of an access reserve forming the southern boundary of part Te Roto Block, along the western boundary of Kopua Block, the western and south-western boundaries of part Pawharaputoko Block, the north-western boundary of part Apitihana Block, the north-eastern boundary of Whakatau Block, the northern and eastern boundaries of part Pamatanga Block to and along the north-eastern and northern boundaries of Section .1, Block XI, Ahikereru Survey District, along the eastern boundary of Section 5, Block VI, of the aforesaid Survey District, and the eastern and northern boundaries of Section 1, Block II, Ahikereru Survey District (both sections being State forest, Gazette, 1938, page 312), along the northern boundary of Te Whaiti Residue, the eastern boundaries of part Whirinaki No. 2 Section 2, and No. 2 Section 3B 3B Blocks, along a right line being that boundary produced across the Whirinaki River to and along the southern and generally eastern boundaries of the Galatea Settlement, along the eastern boundaries of subdivisions of the Waiohau Block, the southern and generally eastern boundaries of Oputea Block, the generally south-eastern boundaries of other subdivisions of the Waiohau Block, the southern and eastern boundaries of Tawhia Block, the southern, eastern, and northern boundaries of Pukehou Block, the south-eastern and eastern boundaries of Tapapakikie Block, the eastern boundaries of Tukutoromiro and Mokorua Blocks to the point of commencement together with the beds and waters of all lakes, rivers, and streams, the river-bank reserves adjoining Whanganui, Opunua, Otuiti, Tuapau, Opuatawhiro, Hukanui, Papaohaki, Te Rere, Omaruwhare-kura, Te Kaawa, Whakarae, Ahirau, Te Huingaangakaahu, Nahunahu, Taumataohine, Paemahoe, Takapaurauteanina, and Omuriwaka Blocks, but excluding therefrom all public roads and Maungapohatu, Waipatukakahu, Potahi, Nuhaka, and Pouwhenua Blocks, the Maupo Pa, Sections 1 and 2, Block VII, Ruatahuna Survey District, the Umukaimata Urupa and the Gisborne-Ruatahuna Stock Track passing through or adjoining the above-mentioned areas, the Tarahore, Opei, Oueariu, Tawahana, Marumaru, Te Honoi, Te Uruohapopo, Korouanui, Pakihi, and Totaramaru Blocks and the Nihaohatak, Manahautoa, and Ohiro Urupas, and the Tauwharemanuku Maori School and Urupa.
