Amending Declaration of Land, North Canterbury
Acclimatisation District, as a Wildlife Refuge

A PROCLAMATION
Pursuant to section 14 of the Wildlife Act 1953, I, Lieutenant-
General Sir Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie, the Governor-
General of New Zealand, hereby revoke the Warrants relating
to the North Canterbury Acclimatisation District notifying
and declaring certain areas to be sanctuaries under the Animals
Protection and Game Act 1921-22 to the extent appearing in
the First Schedule hereto, and I hereby proclaim and declare
the areas described in the Second Schedule hereto to be
wildlife refuges for the purposes of the Wildlife Act 1953,
and I hereby further declare that the restrictions as to the
use of boats set out in the Third Schedule hereto shall apply
in the said North Canterbury Acclimatisation District.
FIRST SCHEDULE
AREAS REVOKED AS SANCTUARIES TO ANIMALS PROTECTION
AND GAME ACT 1921-22
- Mandeville and Rangiora Road District, Canterbury
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, being Reserve
No. 807, containing by admeasurement 288 acres, more or
less, situated in Block XII, Rangiora Survey District. Bounded
towards the north by Gladstone Road, Rural Section No. 34845,
and the southern boundary line of that section produced to a
road reserve along the sea shore; thence towards the east by
the said road reserve along the sea shore to a point in line
with the northern boundary line of Rural Section No. 13659;
thence towards the south by a right line to the north-eastern
corner of the said Rural Section No. 13659; thence by Rural
Sections 13659, 10929, 15734, 10695, and Reserve 2134; and
towards the west by Rural Section 4539.
- Yarr's Lagoon
All that parcel of land in the Canterbury Land District,
containing by admeasurement 190 acres, more or less, being
Section 3706, and known as Yarr's Lagoon, Block XII,
Leeston Survey District. Bounded towards the northward by
the southern boundaries of Rural Sections 10070, a road line,
10470, 10662, 19796, a road line, 10663, and 20389; towards
the eastward by the western boundaries of Rural Sections
11388, the L. I. Creek, and 7390; towards the south-eastward
and southward by the north-western boundaries of Rural
Sections 4761, 6699, 7707, and the No. 2 Creek; and towards
the westward by the eastern boundaries of Rural Sections
9932, 10621, and 11102.
- Small Lake at Waikari, Canterbury
The small lake situated near the Waimate Road, Waikari,
and being more particularly on Rural Sections 24073 and
24202, Waipara Survey District, containing 3 acres, more or
less, the property of Mr Henry T. Matthews.
- Blythe Swamp, Stonyhurst Survey District, County of
Waipara
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, being parts
of Rural Sections 25428 and 26341, situated in Stonyhurst
Survey District, and known as Blythe Swamp, containing
about 40 acres, and the area within a line parallel to and 5
chains distant from the edge of the said Blythe Swamp.
- All that area in the Canterbury Land District bounded
by a line commencing at the intersection of North Road and
the Hurunui-Waikari Road; thence north-westerly and south-
westerly along the northern side of the Hurunui-Waikari Road
to the south-western corner of part Lot 1 on Plan 5471,
deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at
Christchurch; thence north-easterly along the north-western
boundary of part Lot 1 on Plan 5471 aforesaid, and that
boundary produced to the right bank of the Waitohi River;
thence down the right bank of the Waitohi River to the
western side of North Road; thence southerly along the
western side of North Road to the intersection of North Road
and Hurunui-Waikari Road, the point of commencement,
excluding therefrom the public road intersecting the said Lot 1.
SECOND SCHEDULE
AREAS DECLARED TO BE WILDLIFE REFUGES UNDER THE
WILDLIFE ACT 1953
- Woodend Lagoon
Part of Woodend Domain being Reserve 807, situated in
Block XII, Rangiora Survey District. Area: 288 acres more or
less. (S.O. Red Map No. 58.) As the same is shown on plan
marked I.A. 52/134 deposited in the Head Office, Department
of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red, and
as may be further defined by the erection of white-painted
posts.
- Small Lake at Waikari
The small lake on part Lot 1, Deposited Plan No. 2822,
being part Rural Sections 24202 and 24073, situated in
Block XI, Waipara Survey District, part certificate of title,
Volume 298, folio 50. (S.O. Plan 2999.) As the same is
shown on plan marked I.A. 52/376 deposited in the Head
Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and
thereon edged red, and as may be further defined by the
erectiofi of white-painted posts.
THIRD SCHEDULE
RESTRICTIONS AS TO THE USE OF BOATS UNDER THE WILDLIFE
AMENDMENT ACT 1956
- Woodend Lagoon
The use of boats on Woodend Lagoon is hereby prohibited.
- Hart's Creek
The use of boats on Hart's Creek is hereby prohibited
between the 1st day of May and the 30th day of September
in any year (both days inclusive).
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, and issued under the Seal of New Zealand, this
10th day of December 1956.

Ratahi Lagoon, in the Township of Te Puia, Block XVI,
Mata Survey District.
- Waikanae Centennial Park
All those areas in the Gisborne Land District comprising the
Waikanae Centennial Park and being section part 1p, Waiohi-
harore, containing 4 acres 3 roods 34.5 perches; and section
part No. 2, Waiohiharore, containing 6 acres 2 roods
30 perches.
- Waiteata Park
All that area in the Gisborne Land District bounded by a
line commencing at the southernmost corner of Lot 48 on
plan 1630 deposited in the office of the District Land
Registrar at Gisborne; thence south-westerly along the north-
western side of Richardson Avenue for a distance of 998.7
links; thence north-westerly along the north-eastern side of
Russell Street for a distance of 500.7 links; thence north-
easterly along the southeastern boundaries of Lots 6 and 9
on plan 1747 deposited in the office of the District Land
Registrar at Gisborne, to the south-western boundary of Lot
47 on plan 1630 aforesaid; thence south-easterly along the
south-western boundaries of Lots 47 and 48 on plan 1630
aforesaid, to the southernmost corner of Lot 48, the point
of commencement.
- Gisborne Waterworks Reserve

ton, and thereon coloured as above mentioned.

WILDLIFE ACT 1953
- Ratahi Lagoon
Section 137, Te Puia Suburban (Ratahi Lagoon), situated in
Block XVI, Mata Survey District (S.O. Plan 1926) containing
an area of 6 acres and 3 roods, more or less.
As the same is shown on plan marked I.A. 52/289 deposited
in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Welling-
ton, and thereon edged red.
