AMENDING DECLARATION OF LAND, SOUTH CANTERBURY ACCLIMATISATION DISTRICT, AS A WILDLIFE REFUGE

A PROCLAMATION

PURSUANT to section 14 of the Wildlife Act 1953, I, Lieutenant-
General Sir Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie, the Governor-
General of New Zealand, hereby revoke the Warrants relating
to the South Canterbury Acclimatisation District notifying
and declaring certain areas to be sanctuaries under the
Animals Protection and Game Act 1921-22 to the extent
appearing in the First Schedule hereto, and I hereby proclaim
and declare the areas described in the Second Schedule hereto
to be wildlife refuges for the purposes of the Wildlife Act
1953, and I hereby further declare that the restrictions as
to the use of boats set out in the Third Schedule hereto shall
apply in the said South Canterbury Acclimatisation District.

FIRST SCHEDULE

AREAS REVOKED AS SANCTUARIES UNDER THE ANIMALS
PROTECTION AND GAME ACT 1921-22

  1. Lake Alexandrina and McGregor's Lagoon

ALL that parcel of land in the provincial district of Canterbury
containing by admeasurement 5,650 acres, more or less, being
Reserve 3411 (in red), Blocks V and IX, Tekapo Survey
District, commencing at a point due east, distant 2838 links,
from Trig. Station F, in the Jollie District; thence by right
lines, northerly bearings of 130°, 295° 45', and 21° 15',
distances respectively of 13100, 3000, and 12000 links; thence
due east 6900 links; thence by a line bearing 154° passing
through Trig. Station L 12400; thence due south 3300 links;
thence at a right angle due east to the western boundary of
Section 33595, 1450 links; thence due south along the
western boundary of said section and Section 34675 to the
southernmost corner of the latter section; thence easterly
along a stream forming the southern boundary of the last-
mentioned section to the road passing through the same;
thence southerly along that road to a point situated due
east from Trig. F first above-mentioned; thence due west,
6800 links; thence at a right angle due south, 9250 links;
thence by a line bearing 202° 45', 8500 links; thence due west
7000 links; thence by a line bearing 337° 15', 8500 links;
thence due north, 9200 links, to the commencing point: save
and except a road-line 1 chain wide round Lake Alexandrina
and McGregor's Lagoon, and along a tributary stream
connecting the said sheets of water; also all necessary roads
required on survey.

  1. Tasman Islands, Tasman Valley, Cox's Downs, and Mount
    Cook Station, Mackenzie County, South Canterbury

All that area in the Canterbury Land District, bounded by
a right line from the summit of the Nun's Veil to the source
of the Pinnacle Stream to Jollie River; thence by Jollie River
to the north-eastern corner of Rural Section 33299; thence
by the eastern boundaries of Rural Sections 33299 and 34428
to the south-eastern corner of the last-mentioned section;
thence westerly along the southern boundary of that section
and of Reserve 2876 to the left bank of the Tasman River;
thence to and along the eastern boundary of Runs 91 and 90
to the southernmost point of the last-mentioned run; thence
northerly along the western boundaries of Runs 90 and 91 to
the north-western corner of the last-mentioned run; thence
along the middle of the bed of the Tasman River and of the
Murchison River to its confluence with a stream having its
source on the Armchair; thence by that stream to the
Armchair; and thence along the ridge to the Nun's Veil, the
place of commencement.

SECOND SCHEDULE

AREAS TO BE DECLARED WILDLIFE REFUGES UNDER THE
WILDLIFE ACT 1953

  1. Lake Alexandrina and McGregor's Lagoon

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, situated in
Blocks V and IX, Tekapo Survey District, containing 5,565
acres, more or less, and bounded as follows: Commencing
at a point 2838 links due east of Trig. Station F. Block XIII,
Jollie Survey District; thence northerly generally along right
lines bearing 13°, 131 chains, 295° 45', 30 chains, 21° 15',
120 chains; thence due east 69 chains; thence southerly along a
right line bearing 154°, 124 chains, passing Trig. Station L, Block
V, Tekapo Survey District; thence due south 33 chains and due
east 14½ chains to the western boundary of Rural Section
33595; thence southerly along that boundary and the western
boundary of Rural Section 34675 and its production to the
northern shore of McGregor's Lagoon; thence easterly gene-
rally along that shore to Glenmore-Tekapo Road; thence
southerly generally along that road to a point due east of
Trig. Station F aforementioned; thence due west 51 chains;
thence due south 92½ chains; thence south-westerly along a
right line bearing 202° 45', 85 chains; thence due west 70
chains; thence north-westerly along a right line bearing 337°
15', 85 chains; thence due north 92½ chains to the point of
commencement.

As the same is shown on plan marked I.A. 52/74 deposited
in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at
Wellington, and thereon edged red.

THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE

  1. TASMAN ISLANDS, MOUNT COOK STATION AND ADJOINING LAND

All that area in the Canterbury Land District containing
43,850 acres, more or less, situated in Mueller, Cass, Tasman,
Jollie, and Pukaki Survey Districts, bounded by a line com-
mencing at the Nun's Veil, being a point on the Liebig Range
on the boundary of the Mount Cook National Park, Block II,
Cass Survey District; thence easterly to and along Pinnacle
Stream to the middle of the Jollie River; thence south-westerly
along that river to a point in line with the eastern boundary
of Rural Section 33299; thence southerly to and along the
eastern boundaries of Rural Sections 33299 and 34428 to the
north-western boundary of Rural Section 33298; thence south-
westerly along that boundary and its production to the eastern
boundary of Run 91, being an island in the Tasman River;
thence southerly generally along the eastern boundaries of
Run 91 and Run 90 to the southernmost point of the last-
mentioned run; thence northerly generally along the western
boundaries of the said Runs 90 and 91 to and along the
middle of the Tasman River to a point due east of the
southernmost point of the Mount Cook National Park, at the
confluence of Birch Hill Stream and the Tasman River; thence
westerly to that point and north-easterly generally along the
boundaries of the Mount Cook National Park to the point of
commencement.

As the same is more particularly shown on plan marked
I.A. 52/291 deposited in the Head Office, Department of
Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red.

THIRD SCHEDULE

RESTRICTION AS TO USE OF BOATS UNDER THE WILDLIFE
AMENDMENT ACT 1956

  1. Lake Alexandrina and McGregor's Lagoon

The use of boats in Lake Alexandrina and McGregor's
Lagoon is hereby restricted to boats wholly propelled by oars
or paddles.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, and issued under the Seal of New Zealand,
this 10th day of December 1956.

AMENDING DECLARATION OF LAND, TAURANGA ACCLIMATISATION
DISTRICT, AS A WILDLIFE REFUGE

A PROCLAMATION

PURSUANT to section 14 of the Wildlife Act 1953, I, Lieutenant-
General Sir Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie, the Governor-
General of New Zealand, hereby revoke the Warrants relating
to the Tauranga Acclimatisation District notifying and declar-
ing certain areas to be sanctuaries under the Animals Protec-
tion and Game Act 1921-22 to the extent appearing in the
Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE

(1) Certain land in Maketu Survey District: All that area
in the Auckland Land District bounded towards the north by
the road forming the northern boundary of Section 15, Block
VII, Maketu Survey District; towards the east by the road
forming the eastern boundary of that section to the southern-
most corner of Paengaroa North C 3 Block; thence towards
the north-west by Paengaroa North C 3 and C 2 Blocks;
towards the north-east by Section 16, Block VII, aforesaid;
towards the south-east by the Pokopoko Stream; towards the
south-west by Paengaroa South Block; and towards the west
by the Kaituna River.

(2) All that area in the Auckland Land District being
Sections Nos. 380, 381, 383, 384, 400, 401, 401A, and part 386,
Te Papa Parish, fronting the Waikareao Arm of the Tauranga
Harbour.

(3) The property of Mr J. R. Pillow, Tauranga: All that
area in the Auckland Land District, being Lots 2 and 3 of
Section 4 of Allotments 368 and 372, Te Papa Parish, the
property of Mr J. R. Pillow.

(4) A certain area at Te Papa: All that area in the Auck-
land Land District being Sections 239, 240, 242, 243, 312, and
313, Te Papa Parish, situated in Blocks II, III, VI, and VII,
Otanewainuku Survey District.

(5) An area at Welcome Bay: All that area situated in
Block XV, Tauranga Survey District, containing 231 acres
and 37 perches, more or less, and being the properties of
Messrs W. Tanner, Hugh M. Stewart, and Stewart Brothers.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Governor-
General, and issued under the Seal of New Zealand,
this 10th day of December 1956.
