Amending Declaration of Land, Ashburton Acclimatisation District, as a Wildlife Refuge

A PROCLAMATION
Pursuant to section 14 of the Wildlife Act 1953, I, Lieutenant- General Sir Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie, the Governor- General of New Zealand, hereby revoke the Warrants relating to the Ashburton Acclimatisation District notifying and declaring certain areas to be sanctuaries under the Animals Protection and Game Act 1921–22 to the extent appearing in the First Schedule hereto, and I hereby proclaim and declare the areas described in the Second Schedule hereto to be wildlife refuges for the purposes of the Wildlife Act 1953, and I hereby further declare that the restrictions as to the use of boats set out in the Third Schedule hereto shall apply in the said Ashburton Acclimatisation District.
FIRST SCHEDULE
AREAS REVOKED AS SANCTUARIES UNDER THE ANIMALS PROTECTION AND GAME ACT 1921–22
- Maori Lakes Near Mount Somers
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, being the two small lakes known as Maori Lakes, situated in the Heron and Tripp Survey Districts, and the area included in a line running parallel to and 20 chains distant from the shores of those lakes. - Lake Heron
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 1,800 acres, more or less, and being Reserve No. 4260 (also known as Lake Heron), situated in Blocks VII, VIII, XI; and XII, Heron Survey District, and bounded on all sides by a two-chain road reserve. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked L. and S. 23/892/1 deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey at Wellington, and thereon bordered red. - Lakes Tripp and Howard
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, situate in Blocks I and II, Tripp Survey District, and known as Lake Tripp. Also all that area situate in Block VI, Tripp Survey District, and known as Lake Howard.
SECOND SCHEDULE
AREAS DECLARED TO BE WILDLIFE REFUGES UNDER THE WILDLIFE ACT 1953 - Maori Lakes Near Mount Somers
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, situated in Blocks XV and XVI, Heron Survey District, and Blocks III and IV, Tripp Survey District, being Reserves 4263 and 4264, and known as Maori Lakes, and the area included within a line parallel to and 20 chains distant from the shores of the said lakes. As the same are shown on plan marked I.A. 52/338 deposited in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red, and as may be further defined by the erection of white-painted posts. - Lake Heron
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, situated in Blocks VII, VIII, XI, and XII, Heron Survey District, being Reserve 4260, and known as Lake Heron, and the area included within a line parallel to and 2 chains distant from the shores of the said lake. As the same is shown on plan marked I.A. 52/104 deposited in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red. - Lakes Tripp and Howard
All that area in the Canterbury Land District, Ashburton County, situated in Blocks I and II, Tripp Survey District, and known as Lake Tripp, and the area included within a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from the shores of the said Lake. Also all that area situated in Blocks V and VI, Tripp Survey District, and known as Lake Howard, and the area included within a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from the shores of the said Lake. As the same are shown on plan marked I.A. 52/299 deposited in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red.
THIRD SCHEDULE
RESTRICTIONS AS TO USE OF BOATS UNDER WILDLIFE AMENDMENT ACT 1956 - Lake Heron
The use of boats on Lake Heron is hereby restricted to boats wholly propelled by oars or paddles. - Lakes Tripp and Howard
The use of boats on Lakes Tripp and Howard is hereby restricted to boats wholly propelled by oars, paddles, or sails.

Amending Declaration of Land, Marlborough Acclimatisation District, as a Wildlife Refuge

A PROCLAMATION
Pursuant to section 14 of the Wildlife Act 1953, I, Lieutenant- General Sir Charles Willoughby Moke Norrie, the Governor- General of New Zealand, hereby revoke the Warrant published in Gazette, 11 February 1929, Volume I, page 445, notifying and declaring certain areas to be sanctuaries under the Animals Protection and Game Act 1921–22, in so far as that Warrant relates to the Marlborough Acclimatisation District, and hereby proclaim and declare the areas described in the Schedule hereto to be wildlife refuges for the purposes of the Wildlife Act 1953, and pursuant to section 3 of the Wildlife Amendment Act 1956 I hereby declare that the following restrictions as to the use of boats shall apply to the said areas: - LAKE ELTERWATER
The use of boats on this lake is hereby prohibited. - LAKE GRASSMERE
The use of boats on this lake is hereby prohibited with the exception of boats being the property of the Dominion Salt Company Ltd., and being used by the servants or agents of the said company solely on the company’s business. - WAIRAU LAGOON
The use of boats on this lagoon is hereby prohibited with the exception of boats used by bona fide lessees of the Wairau Harbour Board who require to use such boats for the purposes of access.
SCHEDULE - LAKE ELTERWATER
All that area in the Marlborough Land District known as Lake Elterwater or Flaxbourne Lagoon, situate in Cape Campbell Survey District, and the area within a line running parallel to and 5 chains distant from the margin of the said lake, and as may be further delineated on the plan marked I.A. 52/220 deposited in the Head Office of the Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red. - LAKE GRASSMERE
All that area in the Marlborough Land District known as Lake Grassmere, and the area within a line running parallel to and 5 chains distant from the margin of the said lake, and as may be further delineated on the plan marked I.A. 52/295 deposited in the Head Office of the Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red. - WAIRAU LAGOON
Area around Wairau River: All that area in the Marlborough Land District bounded towards the north-east by the ocean from the north-western end of the Boulder Bank, at the mouth of the Wairau River, to the south-eastern end of the Boulder Bank, at the north-eastern corner of Section 10 of Block II, Omaka, situate in Block III, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence towards the south generally by that section, Section 8 of Block I, Wakefield Downs, and Section 9 of Block II, Omaka, both of which sections are situate in Block III, Clifford Bay Survey District, to a point 5 chains distant from high-water mark of the Big Lagoon; thence by a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from high-water mark of the Big Lagoon through Sections 9 of Block II, Omaka, and 7 of Block I, Wakefield Downs, both of which sections are situate in Block III, Clifford Bay Survey District, to the channel between the Big Lagoon and Chandler’s Lagoon; thence towards the west generally by the said channel to a small lagoon in Section 5, Opawa, situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence by the western side of that lagoon and a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from high-water mark of the Big Lagoon, through Section 5, Opawa, public road, Crown land, and Section 3, Opawa, all of which sections are situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District aforesaid, to the channel in Section 3, Opawa, situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District; thence by that channel through Sections 3, 4, 6, 9, Opawa, situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District aforesaid, and a line parallel to and 5 chains distant from high-water mark, through Section 9, Opawa, public road, 7, Opawa, public road, 8, Opawa, all of which are situate in Block I, Clifford Bay Survey District aforesaid, to the southern side of the estuary of the Wairau River; thence by a right line across the said estuary in the direction of the pilot station to the west side of the mouth of the Wairau River; and thence by a right line to the north-western end of the Boulder Bank, the place of commencement. As the same is shown on plan marked I.A. 52/44 deposited in the Head Office, Department of Internal Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red.
