Special Order Made by Whakatane County Council Altering Riding Boundaries and Adjusting Representation
Pursuant to section 100 of the Counties Act 1920, as amended by section 3 of the Counties Amendment Act 1921-22, the Minister of Internal Affairs hereby publishes the following special order made by the Whakatane County Council and fixes the 8th day of October 1956 as the date on which the said special order shall take effect.

SPECIAL ORDER
At a special meeting of the Whakatane County Council, held on 31 July 1956, the following resolution, by way of special order, was carried and submitted for confirmation at an ordinary meeting of the Council held at the Council Chambers, Whakatane, on Wednesday, 29 August 1956:
"That the present subdivision of the county into ten ridings be revoked and, in lieu thereof, the county be divided into nine ridings, viz., Galatea, Matata, Omataroa, Urewera, Tarawera, Rangitaiki, Taneatua, Ohope, Waimana; the boundaries of which are as set out in Schedule hereto - that the representation of the ridings be Galatea (1), Matata (1), Omataroa (1), Urewera (1), Tarawera (2), Rangitaiki (2), Taneatua (1), Ohope (1), Waimana (1)."
SCHEDULE
GALATEA RIDING
All that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block XV, Rotoma Survey District, being the southernmost corner of part Allotment 63, Matata Parish (Provisional State Forest, Gazette, 1920, page 2107), and running generally easterly along the southern boundary of that allotment and the southern boundaries of part Allotment 39 (Provisional State Forest, Gazette, 1920, page 2107) and another part of Allotment 39 of the aforesaid parish to and down the left bank of the Tarawera River to the western boundary of Block XIII, Rangitaiki Upper Survey District, and along a right line across that river to the south-western corner of part Allotment 59B 2A of the aforesaid parish; thence along the southern boundary of that last-mentioned allotment, the southern boundary of Allotment 59B 1, parts Allotments 59B 2A, 59B 3D 2, and another part of Allotment 59B 3D 2 crossing an intervening public road to the left bank of the Rangitaiki River; thence generally southerly up that left bank to and easterly along the southern boundaries of Blocks XIV and XV, Rangitaiki Lower Survey District, to and along the western, southern, and south-eastern boundaries of Oputea Block to and again along the southern boundary of Block XV aforesaid to and along the western boundaries of Blocks IV, VIII, XII, and XVI, Galatea Survey District, the northern and western boundaries of Block III and the western boundaries of Blocks VII, XI, and XV, Ahikereru Survey District, and the western boundaries of Blocks III, VII, and XI, Tuwatawata Survey District, to and westerly and then northerly along the southern and western boundaries of the Whakatane County, as described in Gazette No. 52 of the 10th day of August 1950, page 1566, to the point of commencement, save and excepting thereout the Town District of Murupara, as described in Gazette No. 79 of the 16th day of December 1954, page 2032.
MATATA RIDING
All that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block IV, Waihi South Survey District, on the shores of the Bay of Plenty, being the north-eastern corner of Waewaehikitia No. 1 Block, and running south-easterly generally along the shores of the Bay of Plenty aforesaid to the left bank of the Tarawera River Diversion; thence southerly generally up the left bank of that diversion to and up the left bank of the Tarawera River to the northern boundary of the Borough of Kawerau; thence along the generally western boundary of that borough, as described in Gazettes, No. 21 of the 1st day of April 1954, page 503, and No. 15 of the 15th day of March 1956, page 339, to and again up the left bank of the Tarawera River aforesaid to and westerly along the northern boundary of the Galatea Riding hereinbefore described to the western boundary of the Whakatane County aforesaid; thence northerly along that boundary to the point of commencement.
TARAWERA RIDING
All that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block VI, Awaoteatua Survey District, being the intersection of the left bank of the Tarawera River diversion with the line of mean high water along the shores of the Bay of Plenty and running easterly along those shores to the left bank of the Rangitaiki River; thence southerly generally up that left bank to and westerly along the northern boundary of the Galatea Riding hereinbefore described to and northerly along the eastern boundary
of the Matata Riding hereinbefore described, to and along the eastern boundary of the Kawerau Borough as described in Gazettes No. 21 of the 1st day of April 1954, page 503, and No. 15 of the 15th day of March 1956, page 339, to and again along the eastern boundary of the Matata Riding aforesaid to the point of commencement.
RANGITAIKI RIDING
All that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block V, Awaoteatua Survey District, being the intersection of the left bank of the Rangitaiki River with the line of mean high water along the shores of the Bay of Plenty, and running easterly generally along those shores to the northernmost corner of part Allotment 28B 1, Rangitaiki Parish, in Block 1A, Whakatane Survey District; thence southerly generally along the eastern sides of Golf Links Road and Eastern Boundary Road, and along a right line across the Rotorua-Whakatane State Highway to the north-western corner of part Lot 1, D.P. 23416, being part Allotment 30B 1, Rangitaiki Parish; thence along the western boundaries of part Lot 1, D.P. 23416, aforesaid, and Lot 1, D.P. S. 1053, being part Allotment 30B 1 aforementioned, another part of Allotment 30B 1, as shown on D.P. 22063, the abutment of a public road, along the western boundaries of part Lot 2, D.P. 20482, and Lot 1, D.P. S. 2070, both being parts Allotment 30B 1 aforesaid, the western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 30568, being Allotment 30C 1 and parts Allotments 30C 12, 30C 11, and 30C 10, the western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 23169, being part Allotments 38B 1 and 38A 1, and the western boundary of the land shown on D.P. 10091, being part Allotments 38B 1 and 38A 1, crossing an intervening public road and the East Coast Main Trunk Railway, the aforesaid allotments being of Rangitaiki Parish, to and along the western boundaries of Allotments 31P 3F, part 32O, 32G 1, part 32B 33L, 41A 9D, and 41B 10D, the aforesaid allotments being of Rangitaiki Parish aforesaid, to the northern boundary of Ruatoki No. 2B 11 Block in Block IV, Rangitaiki Lower Survey District; thence westerly along that last-mentioned boundary to and along the northern boundaries of Section 2, part Section 1, and Section 4, all of Block IV aforesaid, along the northern boundary of Tuararangaia No. 3B 2 Block and along a right line, being that boundary produced to the left bank of the Tarawera River; thence northerly along the eastern boundary of the Tarawera Riding hereinbefore described to the point of commencement.
OMATAROA RIDING
All that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block 1A, Whakatane Survey District, on the shores of the Bay of Plenty, being the northernmost corner of part Allotment 28B 1, Rangitaiki Parish, and running south-easterly along those shores to and south-westerly and then south-easterly along the boundaries of the Whakatane Borough, as described in Gazette No. 52 of the 10th day of August 1950, page 1566, to the northernmost corner of Lot 1, D.P. 18662, being part Allotment 10A, Waimana Parish, in Block I, Whakatane Survey District; thence along a right line across the Whakatane River to the easternmost corner of Lot 2, D.P. 13465, being part Allotment 30C 2C, Rangitaiki Parish; thence up the left bank of the Whakatane River to and westerly along the northern boundaries of Lots 2 and 1, D.P. 10785, being part Allotment 33K, Lot 1, D.P. 11736, being part Allotment 33J, Allotment 42, and Allotment 33L, the said allotments being of Rangitaiki Parish aforesaid, crossing three intervening public roads, to the eastern boundary of the Rangitaiki Riding hereinbefore described; thence generally northerly along that eastern boundary to the point of commencement.
TANEATUA RIDING
All that area in the South Auckland Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the left bank of the Whakatane River in Block I, Whakatane Survey District, being the easternmost corner of Lot 2, D.P. 13465, being part Allotment 30C 2C, Rangitaiki Parish, and running south-easterly along a right line to the north-western corner of Lot 1, D.P. 18662, being part Allotment 10A, Waimana Parish; thence generally north-easterly along the southern and south-eastern boundaries of the Borough of Whakatane, as described in Gazette No. 52 of the 10th day of August 1950, page 1566, to and along the south-western sides of the Wainui Main Highway, the Wainui stock route road, and again the Wainui Main Highway to and along the western boundary of part Allotment 245, Waimana Parish, as shown on D.P. 10440, along the western boundary of Lot 1, D.P. 29595, being part Allotment 245 aforesaid, the northern and western boundaries of an area of Crown land and the western boundaries of Allotments 377, 357, and 346 of the aforesaid Waimana Parish, crossing the intervening public roads, to a point in Block XIV, Whakatane Survey District, in line with the northern boundary of Allotment 337 of the said parish; thence along a right line crossing a public road to and along that northern boundary and the northern boundary of Allotment 446, along another part of the northern boundary of Allotment 337 aforesaid to the eastern side of the Whakatane-Gisborne State Highway and along that eastern side to a point in line with the southern boundary of Allotment 379, Waimana Parish aforesaid; thence along a right line across the said State highway and the Waimana River to and along that southern boundary, along a right line across a public
