Arbor Day 1956

IT is hereby notified that Wednesday, 1 August 1956, is to be observed as Arbor Day and, in view of the national importance of tree planting, local bodies throughout New Zealand are requested to organise suitable celebrations on that date. Where, on account of local climatic conditions in any district, the first day of August is deemed unsuitable the local bodies affected are invited to observe some other suitable day in the the month.

Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 4) 1956

PURSUANT to regulation 15 of the Import Control Regulations 1938,* the Minister of Customs hereby gives notice as follows:

  1. (1) This notice may be cited as the Import Control Exemption Notice (No. 4) 1956.

(2) This notice shall come into force on the 20th day of July 1956.

  1. Goods of the classes specified in the First Schedule hereto, imported from and being the produce or manufacture of any country other than the countries specified in the Second Schedule hereto, are hereby exempted from the requirement of a licence under the said regulations.

FIRST SCHEDULE

Tariff Item Classes of Goods No.

268 (2) Drinking straws of any material; cardboard tubes.

362 (7) Knees, bends, elbows, junction or inspection boxes, including covers therefor, and other fittings, n.e.i., for pipes, piping, tubes, or tubing, viz:

(a) Of brass or other copper alloy.

363 (2) Stereotypes, electrotypes, matrices, half-tone and line blocks.

SECOND SCHEDULE

NOTICE is hereby given that the land described in the Schedule hereto has been acquired under the Reserves and Domains Act 1953 as a scenic reserve.

ALLOTMENTS 53, 54, and 55, Parish of Manaia, situated in Block IV, Ruakaka Survey District. Total area, 170 acres, more or less. All certificate of title, Volume 550, folio 143, limited as to parcels. (S.O. Plan 734.)

Land Surveyors' Examination, August 1956--Australia and New Zealand

IT is hereby notified for general information that the Survey Board, in conjunction with the Australian Surveyors' Boards, will conduct an examination of candidates for registration as surveyors, commencing at 9 a.m. on Monday, 20 August 1956, at Wellington.

Candidates are notified that their applications, on the proper form, must reach the Secretary of the Board not later than Monday, 23 July 1956, and that the examination fee must be paid at the same time to the Secretary, from whom application forms and other particulars may be obtained.

Candidates presenting themselves for examination in any written subject or subjects may present themselves for examination at any Chief Surveyor's office, or at Rotorua, Whangarei, or Hamilton.

Candidates for the oral and practical portion of the examination must sit in Wellington. Plans for this portion of the examination, the certificate, and other evidence required by regulation No. 31 of the Survey Examination Regulations 1953, must be forwarded not later than 10 September 1956.
