ORDER IN COUNCIL

Present:
His Excellency THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL IN COUNCIL
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, the Local Government Commission has approved as final a scheme bearing date the 6th day of January 1956 providing for the union of the Counties of Dannevirke and Weber and making supplementary provisions incidental thereto;
And whereas it is deemed expedient to give effect to the final scheme as hereinafter appearing:
Now, therefore, pursuant to the Local Government Commission Act 1953, His Excellency the Governor-General, acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, hereby declares:
- That as on and from the 1st day of April 1956 the Counties of Dannevirke and Weber shall be united to form one county under the name of the County of Dannevirke (hereinafter referred to as the united County):
- That the boundaries of the united County shall be those described in the First Schedule hereto:
- That the united County shall be divided into eight ridings to be known respectively as the Dannevirke, Mangatoro, Matamau, Ngapaeruru, Norsewood, Ormondville, Tiratau, and Weber Ridings:
- That the boundaries of the Weber Riding of the united County shall be those described in the Second Schedule hereto, and the boundaries of the Dannevirke, Mangatoro, Matamau, Ngapaeruru, Norsewood, Ormondville, and Tiratau Ridings of the united County shall be those described under their respective headings in Gazette, 8 April 1926, Vol. I, page 936:
- That the number of members of the Council of the united County shall be eight, one of whom shall be elected for each riding:
- That the first election of members of the Council of the united County shall be held on the day fixed by law for the next triennial general elections of members of county councils:
- That until the members elected at the first election of members of the Council of the united County come into office, the Council of the united County shall consist of the members of the Council of the present County of Dannevirke together with one member of the Council of the present County of Weber to be chosen by that Council and for the purpose of making that choice, but for no other purpose, the Weber County Council may continue in office after the 31st day of March 1956:
- That, except as otherwise provided herein, the said union shall be deemed to have been effected under the Counties Act 1920.
FIRST SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY OF DANNEVIRKE
ALL that area in the Hawke's Bay Land District bounded by a line commencing at a point on the summit of the Ruahine Range due west of the source of the Makaretu River; thence easterly along a right line to the source of the said Makaretu River; thence down the middle of that river to a point due north of the junction of the Napier β Palmerston North State highway and the old Norsewood-Takapau road as shown on plan numbered M.L. 1631 lodged with the Chief Surveyor at Napier; thence southerly along a right line to that junction; thence south-westerly generally along the middle of the said Napier β Palmerston North State highway to and along the middle of the old road as shown on plan numbered 1157 green lodged as aforesaid (portions of the old road now being closed and numbered as Sections 14R, 15R, 16R, 17R, 18R, and 19R, Block I, Takapau Survey District) to the middle of the Manawatu River; thence down the middle of that river to its confluence with the Waikopiro Stream; thence up the middle of that stream and the Mangapurakau Stream to the south-western boundary of Lot 1 on the plan numbered 4265 deposited in the Land Registry Office at Napier; thence south-easterly along that boundary and the south-western boundaries of Lots 2 and 3 on the said plan numbered 4265 to the middle of the Whatatuna Stream; thence down the middle of that stream and up the middle of the Tauraekaitai Stream to and along the western boundary of Lot 1 on plan numbered 8441 deposited as aforesaid, to the Whangai Stream; thence down the middle of that stream and up the middle of the Mangapuaka Stream to a point in line with the southern boundary of Lot 3 on Deeds Plan numbered 349 lodged in the Land Registry Office at Napier; thence easterly along a right line to the south-western corner of the said Lot 3; thence south-easterly along a right line to Trig. Station 27 and another right line to Trig. Station 12, being a point on the north-eastern boundary of Section 3, Block VIII, Mangatoro Survey District; thence south-easterly generally and south-westerly generally along the north-eastern and south-eastern boundaries of the said Section 3 to and across the Te Uri Road to the north-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XII, Mangatoro Survey District; thence south-westerly generally along the south-eastern boundary of that section to the northern boundary of Section 5, Block XV, Mangatoro Survey District; thence westerly generally along the northern boundaries of that section and of Section 6, Block XV aforesaid, to the western boundary of the said Section 6; thence southerly along that boundary to a point due west of a point on the north-western boundary of Section 1, Block XVI, Mangatoro Survey District, distant 1,700 links from the northernmost corner of the said Section 1; thence easterly along a right line to that point on the north-western boundary of the said Section 1; thence north-easterly along that boundary to the northernmost corner of the said Section 1; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern boundaries of that section and of Lots 1 and 2 on plan numbered 2910 deposited as aforesaid, to the south-eastern boundary of the last-mentioned Lot 2; thence south-westerly along that boundary to the north-eastern boundary of Lot 1 on plan numbered 7290 deposited as aforesaid; thence south-easterly along that boundary and the north-eastern boundaries of Lot 2 on the said plan numbered 7290, and of Sections 2, 3, and 4, Block I, Tautane Survey District, to the eastern boundary of the last-mentioned Section 4; thence southerly along that boundary, the crossing of Birch Road, along the eastern boundaries of Lot 4 of Section 1, Block I, Tautane Survey District, of Sections 14, 6, and 9, Block V, Tautane Survey District, including the crossing of the Dannevirke-Waipukurau via Porangahau main highway and along the eastern boundary of Section 2, Block IX, Tautane Survey District, to the north-eastern boundary of Section 7, Block IX aforesaid; thence southerly generally along that boundary and the eastern boundaries of the said Section 7 and of Section 10, Block IX aforesaid, the crossing of the Mangaone Road, the eastern boundaries of Section 1, Block X, and Section 4, Block XIII, Tautane Survey District, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle of the Papuka Stream; thence southerly generally down the middle of that stream to and along the western boundary of Lot 3 on plan numbered 549 deposited as aforesaid, including the crossing of a public road, to the sea coast; thence south-westerly along the sea coast to a point in the middle of the mouth of the Waimata Stream; thence up the middle of that stream to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Section 1, Block XIII, Tautane Survey District; thence north-westerly to and along that boundary to old Trig. Station 39A (Taumata o te Atua); thence north-westerly along the boundary of the Hawke's Bay Land District, being right lines through Trig. Station O (Otuarehua), 41A (Mount Arthur), P (Old Pukehou), to Trig. Station R (Wahatuara), being a point on the southern boundary of Puketoi 6A Block; thence westerly along that boundary to and across the Mangatoro Stream, along the southern boundary of Lot 1 on plan numbered 7164 deposited as aforesaid, to and across the Makuri-Ongaha main highway and along the southern boundary of Section 10, Block XV, Tahoraiti Survey District, to the south-western corner of that section; thence northerly generally along the western boundary of the said Section 10 and the eastern boundaries of Sections 11, 8, and 9, Block XV aforesaid, to the north-eastern boundary of the last-mentioned Section 9; thence north-westerly along that boundary and its production to the western side of Otope Road; thence northerly generally along that road side to the south-western boundary of Section 4, Block XI, Tahoraiti Survey District; thence north-westerly along that boundary and the south-western boundary of the said Section 5; thence north-easterly along that boundary to the south-western side of the Otope Road; thence westerly generally along that road side, the southern boundary of Lot 2 on plan numbered 6570 deposited as aforesaid, the south-eastern and southern boundaries of Lot 3 on plan numbered 3777 deposited as aforesaid, the southern boundary of Lot 3, and the southern boundary and its production of Lot 1 on the aforementioned plan numbered 6570, to the right bank of the Manawatu River; thence up that bank to and up the middle of the Oruakeretaki and Mangapukakakahu Streams to the north-eastern boundary of Section 13, Block I, Woodville Survey District; thence north-westerly along that boundary to and across Grainger Road and to and along the north-eastern boundaries of Sections 54, 51, and 50, Block I aforesaid, to the middle of the Oruakeretaki Stream; thence up that stream and its north branch to a point in line with the south-western boundary of Section 9, Block XII, Norsewood Survey District; thence north-westerly to and along that boundary and the south-western boundary of Section 1, Block XI, Norsewood Survey District, and its production to the middle of the Mangapukakakahu Stream; thence up the middle of that stream to a point in line with the southern boundary of the aforementioned Section 1; thence westerly generally to and along that boundary to the summit of the Ruahine Range; thence north-easterly generally along the summit of that range to the point of commencement; and excluding therefrom the Borough of Dannevirke as described in Gazette 1892, page 1487.
SECOND SCHEDULE
BOUNDARIES OF WEBER RIDING OF COUNTY OF DANNEVIRKE
ALL that area in the County of Dannevirke bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station R (Wahatuara), situated at the south-eastern corner of Puketoi 6A Block in Block XVI, Tahoraiti Survey District; thence north-easterly generally along the south-eastern boundaries of Puketoi 6A and 6B Blocks to the south-western boundary of Section 1, Block XIII, Mangatoro Survey District; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the south-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XIII aforesaid; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundaries of the said Section 2, of Sections 3 and 4,
