Notice to Mariners No. 60 of 1953

NEW ZEALAND-NORTH ISLAND-WELLINGTON HARBOUR

General Amendments to Chart N.Z. 50

THE following amendments will take place on or about 1 October 1953:

  1. (a) Hope Shoal leading light, position lat. 41° 17·9' S., long. 174° 51·9' E. (approx.). The light sectors of this rear leading beacon will be altered to show white from 355° through north to 120°, red elsewhere. An intensified beam will show for 1·6° on either side of the line of leads.

The characteristics of the light will remain unchanged. On chart N.Z. 50, the intensified sector is to be inserted for the full length of the leading line and described with the word ‘‘Intensified’’ at its seaward end.

(b) Barrett Reef buoy, position lat. 41° 21·2' S., long. 174° 50·1' E., (approx.). The light to be altered to show ‘‘Fl. Or. 6 sec.’’ and the buoy symbol to be altered to that of a ‘‘Pillar ’’ buoy.

Charts N.Z. 23 and N.Z. 50 are affected.

(c) On chart N.Z. 50, delete the note referring to ‘‘the light on Somes Island, etc.’’ in position 41° 23' S., 174° 49' E. (approx.).

Existence of a Measured Mile Distance

  1. Insert two pairs of beacons marking this distance, as follows:

(a) Front beacon 41° 14′ 44″ S., 174° 49′ 10″ E.

(b) Front beacon 051° 6,080 ft. from (a)

(c) Rear beacons in each case bear 321·2° to the rear, distant 126·6 and 140·3 ft. respectively.

Extend pecked lines to seaward from each pair of beacons in a 321·2° direction for a distance of 6 cables. Join these together with a pecked line in an 051° 00′ direction and insert along its length, ‘‘Measured Mile, 6,080 feet, 051° 00'.''

Telephone Cable: Amendment in Direction

  1. The existing cable laid between Somes Island and the mainland shown on chart N.Z. 50, together with the beacon marking its end on the shore line is to be expunged. The cable is to be reinserted in a 315° direction from the existing beacon on Somes Island, position lat. 41° 15' 27'' S., long. 174° 51′ 51'' E. (approx.), to the mainland, with a beacon to mark its end on the shore line.

Insert the words ‘‘Tel. Cable’’ along its mid-length.

Names of Wharves

  1. (a) In the table ‘‘Depths at Wharves’’ (mid-west border of chart N.Z. 50) insert ‘‘Burnham Whf. 32 ft.’’ Substitute the name ‘‘Inter-Island Whf.’’ for ‘‘Railway Whf.’’, and ‘‘Waterloo Quay Whf.’’ for ‘‘Lyttelton Whf.’’

(b) At Lambton Harbour wharves, position lat. 41° 17' S., long. 174° 46·7' E. (approx.) substitute wharf names as above.

(c) Insert ‘‘Whf.’’ after ‘‘Clyde Quay’’ in position lat. 41° 17·5' S., long. 174° 47' E. (approx.).

Depths West of Clyde Quay Wharf

  1. Position as in 4 (c) above; insert immediately above the ‘‘y’’ in Clyde the depth of 31, and substitute, 32 for 44 close eastward.

Existence of Buoy-Evans Bay

  1. (a) Substitute a black can buoy for the sounding 43 close south of the dolphin in position lat. 41° 18·4' S., long. 174° 48·25' E. (approx.).

(b) Amend the colour of the two existing can buoys close south-westward of (a) to black.

(c) A small reclamation with pontoon exists about 1 cable south-westward of the Patent Slip.

  1. The stranded-wreck symbol shown close southward of Pencarrow Head light in position lat. 41° 21·7' S., long. 174° 50·9' E. (approx.) is to be expunged.

Notice to Mariners No. 61 of 1953

NEW ZEALAND-RADIOTELEPHONY DISTRESS FREQUENCY 2182 Kc/s—SILENCE PERIODS

THE attention of mariners is drawn to regulation 123 of the Radio Regulations 1953, which reads as follows:

‘‘All stations licensed to use radiotelephone installations in the authorized maritime mobile service frequency bands between 1605 kc/s and 2850 kc/s shall, during their hours of service, observe a listening watch on the distress frequency of 2182 kc/s twice each hour for three minutes commencing on the hour and half hour, New Zealand time.

During these periods all transmissions between the frequencies of 2167 kc/s and 2197 kc/s, except for distress, urgency, or safety transmissions, shall cease.’’

It is important that all ships refrain from transmitting between 2167 kc/s and 2197 kc/s during the periods indicated.

Honey Marketing Committee Election

PURSUANT to clause 13 of the Schedule to the Honey Marketing Committee Regulations 1948, notice is hereby given that the roll of those persons deemed eligible to vote for the election of one producers’ representative to the Honey Marketing Committee, together with the number of votes allotted to each voter, is now open for inspection during official hours at the undermentioned offices of the Department of Agriculture, Marketing Division:

Auckland, Tauranga, Gisborne, Hastings, Wellington, Nelson, Motueka, Christchurch, and Dunedin;

and also at the following post offices:

Kaikohe, Dargaville, Kaitaia, Whangarei, Warkworth, Huntly, Hamilton, Rotorua, Te Aroha, Whakatane, Napier, Wanganui, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Levin, Masterton, Blenheim, Kaikoura, Westport, Greymouth, Hokitika, Ashburton, Geraldine, Timaru, Waimate, Oamaru, Roxburgh, Balclutha, Gore, and Invercargill.

The Roll will be available for public inspection up to and including the 5th day of August 1953.

Nomination forms may be obtained on application to any of the above offices or from the Returning Officer, P.O. Box 1500, Wellington. Nominations must be in the hands of the Returning Officer not later than midday on 12 August 1953, and must be accompanied by a deposit of £3.

Releasing Land from the Provisions of Part I of the Maori Land Amendment Act 1936 (Mangonui Development Scheme)

PURSUANT to subsection (2) of section 4 of the Maori Land Amendment Act 1936, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby revokes, so far as it affects the lands described in the Schedule hereto, a certain notice dated the 3rd day of April 1940, and published in New Zealand Gazette No. 30 of the 4th day of April 1940 at page 657, whereby the provisions of Part I of the Maori Land Amendment Act 1936 were applied to, inter alia, the said lands.

Releasing Land from the Provisions of Part I of the Maori Land Amendment Act 1936 (Ngati Manawa Development Scheme)

PURSUANT to subsection (2) of section 4 of the Maori Land Amendment Act 1936, the Board of Maori Affairs hereby revokes, so far as it affects the land described in the Schedule hereto, a certain notice dated the 8th day of January 1937 and published in New Zealand Gazette No. 5 of the 21st day of January 1937 at page 243, whereby the said land was declared to be subject to the provisions of Part I of the Maori Land Amendment Act 1936.

SCHEDULE

ALL that area of land in the Waiariki Maori Land Court District, containing 37 acres 1 rood 28 perches, more or less, situated in Block IX, Galatea Survey District, being part of the Karatia lB 2B 3 Block. As the same is more particularly delineated on the plan marked M.A. 63/43, deposited in the Head Office of the Department of Maori Affairs at Wellington, and thereon edged red.
