Special Order Made by the Matamata County Council Altering Riding Boundaries
Department of Internal Affairs,
Wellington, 4th April, 1950.
THE following Special Order made by the Matamata County Council is published in accordance with the provisions of the Counties Act, 1920, in so far as publication is required by that Act. Pursuant to section 100 of the aforesaid Act, as amended by section 3 of the Counties Amendment Act, 1921–22, I hereby fix the 1st day of July, 1950, as the date from which the alteration of boundaries as set out in the said Special Order shall take effect.

SPECIAL ORDER
In exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 23 of the Counties Act, 1920, the Matamata County Council resolves by way of Special Order, as follows :—
“1. That the present boundaries of the Putaruru and Tokoroa Ridings be altered, and that a new riding, to be named the Lichfield Riding, be constituted.
“2. That the boundaries of the Putaruru, Lichfield, and Tokoroa Ridings be those set forth in the Schedule hereto.
“3. That the alterations hereby made shall take effect as from the 1st day of July, 1950.”
SCHEDULE
Lichfield Riding
ALL that area in the South Auckland Land District, situated in the County of Matamata, bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block X, Patetere North Survey District, being the point of intersection of the middle of the Putaruru – Arapuni – Kihikihi Main Highway with the south-western boundary of the Borough of Putaruru, and running easterly generally along the south-western, southern, and south-eastern boundaries of the Borough of Putaruru, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 32 of the 12th day of June, 1947, page 728, and along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of the Oraka Stream; thence up the middle of that stream, to and along the middle of Pah Road, to and along the middle-line of the Auckland–Rotorua Railway to the point of intersection with a right line between Trig. Station No. 27, Puwhenua, being the eastern corner of Block VII, Tapapa East Survey District, and the westernmost corner of Section 9 of Block V, Horohoro Survey District; thence southerly generally along the aforesaid right line to the westernmost corner of Section 9 aforesaid; thence along the south-western boundary of Patetere South No. 2 Block to the northern boundary of Lot 1, as shown on the plan numbered 20031, deposited in the Auckland Land Registry Office, being part of Tokoroa No. 1 Block; thence westerly generally along the northern boundary of Lot 1 aforesaid, along the north-eastern and western boundaries of Lot 1, as shown on the plan numbered 20030, deposited as aforesaid, being part of the aforesaid Tokoroa No. 1 Block, the western boundary of Lot 5, as shown on the aforesaid plan numbered 20030, the northern boundaries of Lots 1 and 2, as shown on the plan numbered 34291, deposited as aforesaid, being parts of Tokoroa No. 1 Block aforesaid, along a right line across the Waitoa–Wairakei Main Highway, to and along the north-western boundary of Lot 13, as shown on the plan numbered 23866, deposited as aforesaid, being part of the said Tokoroa No. 1 Block, along a right line across the Taupo Totara Timber Company’s railway, to and along the north-western boundary of Lot 4, as shown on the aforesaid plan numbered 23866, along another right line across the Paraonui Road, to and along the north-western boundaries of Lots 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36, as shown on the plan numbered 23867, deposited as aforesaid, being part of the aforesaid Tokoroa No. 1 Block, along a right line across the old Cambridge–Taupo Road, to and along the northern boundary of Lot 46, as shown on the plan numbered 13757, deposited as aforesaid, being part of Matanuku No. 3 Block and part of the said Tokoroa No. 1 Block, the northern boundary of Lot 2, as shown on the plan numbered 21950, deposited as aforesaid, being part of Matanuku No. 3 Block, aforesaid, and along the northern boundary of another part of Matanuku No. 3 Block to the south-western corner of part of Lot 1, as shown on the plan numbered 22069, deposited as aforesaid, being part of Section 43c of Selwyn Settlement; thence northerly generally along the western and north-eastern boundaries of part of Lot 1 aforesaid, along the north-western boundary of Waotu South No. 14 Block, and along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of Lichfield–Waotu Road; thence along the middle of that road to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Waotu South No. 15A Block; thence along a right line to and along the aforesaid north-western boundary, along the southern, western, and northern boundaries of part of Section 41 of Selwyn Settlement aforesaid, as shown on the plan numbered 13666, deposited as aforesaid, and along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of the old Cambridge–Taupo Road aforesaid; thence along the middle of that road to a point in line with the northern boundary of Lot 1, as shown on the plan numbered 21494, deposited as aforesaid, being part of Section 41
of the aforesaid settlement; thence along a right line to and along the northern and north-eastern boundaries of the said Lot 1, along the north-eastern boundary of Lot 2, as shown on the aforesaid plan numbered 21494, and along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of the Waioraka Stream; thence down the middle of that stream, to and down the middle of the Pokaiwhenua Stream to a point in line with the northern boundary of Lot 2, as shown on the plan numbered 11700, deposited as aforesaid, being part of Section 13 of the aforesaid Selwyn Settlement; thence along a right line, to and along the northern boundary of the aforesaid Lot 2, along a right line across Dukeson’s Road, to and along the western boundary of Lot 2, as shown on the plan numbered 13045, deposited as aforesaid, being part of Section 13, aforesaid, along the western boundaries of Lots 2 and 1, as shown on the plan numbered 21065, deposited as aforesaid, being parts of Section 13 aforesaid, and along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of the Putaruru – Arapuni – Kihikihi Main Highway; thence along the middle of that main highway to the boundary of the Borough of Putaruru, being the point of commencement.
Putaruru Riding
All that area in the South Auckland Land District, situated in the County of Matamata, bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block IV, Maungatautari Survey District, being the confluence of the Waikato River with the Pokaiwhenua Stream, and running south-easterly generally up the middle of the aforesaid stream, to and along the northern boundaries of Sections 8 and 7, the north-western boundaries of Section 3 and Lot 2, as shown on the plan numbered 12610, deposited in the Auckland Land Registry Office, being part of Section 1, all the aforesaid sections being of Selwyn Settlement, and along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of Parapara Road; thence down the middle of that road to and along the middle of the Auckland–Rotorua Railway to a point due west of the angle in the western boundary of part of Section 97 of the said Selwyn Settlement, as shown on the plan numbered 13158, deposited as aforesaid; thence along a right line to and along the western and northern boundaries of part of Section 97 aforesaid, and along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of the Oraka Stream; thence up the middle of the aforesaid Oraka Stream to a point in line with the north-western boundary of the Borough of Putaruru, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 32 of the 12th day of June, 1947, page 728; thence south-westerly generally along a right line to and along the north-western, western, and south-western boundaries of the aforesaid Borough of Putaruru, along the generally western boundary of the Lichfield Riding, as hereinbefore described, to and along the eastern boundary of part of Matanuku No. 3 Block, crossing an intervening public road, along the eastern and southern boundaries of another part of Matanuku No. 3 Block, along the eastern boundary of part of Matanuku No. 2B 2 Block, to and along the northern boundary of parts of Matanuku Nos. 2B 2, 2F 2, 2G 2, and 2E 2 Blocks, as shown on the plan numbered 21718, deposited as aforesaid, and along a right line being the last-mentioned boundary produced to the middle of the Waikato River; thence northerly generally down the middle of the Waikato River aforesaid to the point of commencement.
Tokoroa Riding
All that area in the South Auckland Land District, situated in the County of Matamata, bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block VIII, Wharepapa Survey District, on the western boundary of the Matamata County, in the middle of the Waikato River, being the south-western corner of the Putaruru Riding, as hereinbefore described, and running easterly generally along the southern boundary of the said Putaruru Riding and the southern boundary of Lichfield Riding, as hereinbefore described, to the westernmost corner of Section 9 of Block V, Horohoro Survey District; thence southerly generally along the south-western boundary of Section 9 aforesaid, to its southernmost corner; thence along a right line to and along the south-western boundary of Patetere South No. 1B 3 Block, to and along the generally western boundaries of parts of Lots 11 and 10, as shown on the plan numbered 12325, deposited as aforesaid, being parts of the Tikorangi and Whakamaru-Maungaiti Blocks, along the western boundaries of Lots 2 and 1, as shown on the plan numbered 20272, deposited as aforesaid, being parts of the aforesaid Whakamaru-Maungaiti Block, and Sections 3 and 4 of Block III, Te Atiamuri Survey District, and along a right line, being the last-mentioned boundary produced across the Rotorua–Atiamuri Main Highway to its southern side; thence easterly along the southern side of that main highway to the middle of the stream forming part of the eastern boundary of Lot 2, as shown on the plan numbered 15486, deposited as aforesaid, being part of the Whakamaru-Maungaiti Block aforesaid; thence southerly generally down the middle of that stream, to and down the middle of the Whangapou Stream to its confluence with the Waikato River; thence westerly and northerly generally down the middle of the said Waikato River to the point of commencement.

We hereby certify that the above Special Order was duly made at a special meeting of the Matamata County Council held on the 15th day of September, 1949, and confirmed at the ordinary meeting held on the 17th November, 1949.
