Appointment of Interpreters Under the Maori Land Act, 1931

to be deputy Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Southland Land District for the purposes of the Land Act, 1948, on and from the 1st day of March, 1950.

Alison Geanor Lockyer

to be deputy Registrar of the Magistrates’ Court at Hastings for the purposes of the Magistrates’ Courts Act, 1947, on and from the 29th day of March, 1950.

Francis Ernest Wilkin

to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Orchard and Garden Diseases Act, 1928, on and from the 29th day of March, 1950.

Average Price for Apples and Pears for the 1949–50 Season

IN accordance with section 16 (1) of the Apple and Pear Marketing Act, 1948, I hereby declare the average price of apples and pears for the 1949–50 season to be 9s. 6d per case, non-wrapped. Dated at Wellington, this 6th day of April, 1950.

The Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, and its Amendments.—Fixing the Closing-hours of (1) Tobacconists’ and (2) Hairdressers’ Shops Within the Borough of Blenheim

——

WHEREAS a requisition in writing signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) tobacconist and (2) hairdresser, in the Borough of Blenheim, a separate district within the meaning of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, has been forwarded to the Minister of Labour pursuant to section 32 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921–22, desiring that all shops in each of the said trades shall be closed in the evening of working days as follows : On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 5.30 p.m., and on Fridays at 9 p.m., with the following exceptions ; on the working-day first preceding Christmas Day, and on the working-day first preceding New Year’s Day, and on the working-day first preceding Good Friday there shall be no fixed closing-hour :

Now, therefore, the Minister of Labour, being satisfied that the signatures to the requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in each of the trades of (1) tobacconist and (2) hairdresser within the said district, does hereby direct that on and after the 17th day of April, 1950, all the said shops within the said district shall be closed for the remainder of the day in accordance with such requisition :

And whereas the said requisition is signed by not less than two-thirds of the occupiers of tobacconists’ shops within the said district, notice is hereby given that, pursuant to section 25 of the Shops and Offices Amendment Act, 1927, all other shops within the said district in which smoking-requisites are sold shall be closed at the same hours as are set out herein for tobacconists’ shops.

The following notices made in respect of the said district shall be and are hereby cancelled as from the date of coming into operation of this notice : (1) the notice dated 3rd September, 1919, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 4th September, 1919, fixing the closing-hours of hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Blenheim, (2) the notice dated the 30th May, 1928, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 31st May, 1928, fixing the closing-hours of tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Blenheim, and (3) the notice dated the 17th July, 1935, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 25th July, 1935, prohibiting the sale in the Borough of Blenheim of certain goods comprised in the trade of a tobacconist.
