Declaring Parts of a Tribal District to be Tribal Committee Areas
Under the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945

Pursuant to section 14 of the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945, I, Ernest Bowyer Corbett, Minister of Maori Affairs, do hereby declare the parts of the tribal district described in the Schedule hereto to be tribal committee areas for the purposes of the said Act, and do hereby assign to each of the several areas the name appearing at the head of the description of each such area.

SCHEDULE

CENTRAL TARANAKI TRIBAL DISTRICT

Opua Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea-coast in the middle of the mouth of the Oaonui River; thence proceeding north-easterly generally up the middle of that river to the boundary of the Egmont National Park; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the middle of the Heimama Stream; thence south-westerly generally down the middle of that stream to the sea-coast; thence north-westerly generally along the sea-coast to the middle of the mouth of the Oaonui River, the point of commencement.

Waiaua Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea-coast in the middle of the mouth of the Heimama Stream; thence proceeding north-easterly generally up the middle of that stream to the boundary of the Egmont National Park; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the middle of the Waiaua River; thence south-westerly generally down the middle of that river to the sea-coast; thence north-westerly generally along the sea-coast to the middle of the Heimama Stream, the point of commencement.

Orimupiko Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea-coast in the middle of the mouth of the Waiaua River; thence proceeding north-easterly generally up the middle of that river to the boundary of the Egmont National Park; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the middle of the Taungatara River; thence south-westerly generally down the middle of that river to the sea-coast; thence north-westerly generally along the sea-coast to the middle of the mouth of the Waiaua River, the point of commencement.

Titahi Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea-coast in the middle of the mouth of the Taungatara River; thence proceeding north-easterly generally up the middle of that river to the boundary of the Egmont National Park; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the middle of the Oeo River; thence south-westerly down the middle of that river to the sea-coast; thence north-westerly along the sea-coast to the middle of the mouth of the Taungatara River, the point of commencement.

MATEA-A-RANGI TRIBAL DISTRICT

Ariuru Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Waiwhakaata Stream forming the northern boundary of Tawhiti No. 20 Block in Block IVA, Tokomaru Survey District; thence southerly generally along the sea-coast to the mouth of the Te Puka Stream in Block IV, Tokomaru Survey District; thence north-westerly along a right line to Trig Station Marotiri in Block IV aforesaid, and a right line to the confluence of the Waitahaia and Mata Rivers in Block XII, Hikurangi Survey District; thence south-easterly along a right line to Trig. Station 196 in Block XIV, Mata Survey District, a right line to Trig. Station 184 (Tawhiti) in Block XIII, Waipiro Survey District, and a right line to the mouth of the Waiwhakaata Stream, the point of commencement, and including all adjacent islands.

Tokomaru Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Te Puka Stream in Block IV, Tokomaru Survey District; thence southerly generally along the sea-coast to the mouth of the Karoronui Stream in Block XVI, Tokomaru Survey District; thence westerly along a right line to a point on the western boundary of Tauwhareparae No. 3 Block, 12800 links from the southern end of that boundary, and being a point on the boundary of the Uawa County; thence north-westerly generally along that county boundary, being a right line running due west 12000 links to Trig. Station 171, Puakato, a right line bearing 262° distance 12490 links, a right line bearing 173° 15' distance 8700 links, and a right line bearing 210° 30' distance 5200 links to Rimututahi Trig. Station, right lines bearing 314° distance 1400 links, bearing 328° distance 1100 links, bearing 294° 30' distance 2800 links, bearing 349° 41' distance 5669 links, bearing 345° 21' distance 1098 links, bearing 344° 29' distance 10800 links, bearing 74° 30' distance 4500 links, bearing 9° 30' distance 6600 links, bearing 273° distance 7500 links, bearing 315° distance 1600 links, bearing 298° 30' distance 11800 links, bearing 267° distance 2250 links, bearing 258° distance 4500 links, and bearing 20° 29' distance 17000 links, to the south-western boundary of Tauwhareparae 2B Block, the south-western and south-eastern boundary of that block, to and across the Mangamaunu Stream to its left bank, down the said left bank to the Mata River, up the right bank of that river to a point in line with the northern boundary of Section 1, Block VI, Tutamoi Survey District; thence north-westerly to and along that boundary and the northern boundary of Section 1, Block V, Small Grazing Run 98 and Huiarua No. 1; thence northerly along the western boundary of Huiarua No. 3 to its intersection with a line from Trig. Station Kapua to Trig. Station Arowhana; thence north-easterly along that line to Trig. Station Kapua aforesaid; thence south-easterly along a right line to the confluence of the Waitahaia and Mata Rivers in Block XII, Hikurangi Survey District, a right line to Trig. Station Marotiri in Block IV, Tokomaru Survey District, and a right line to the mouth of the Te Puka Stream, the point of commencement, and including all adjacent islands.

Anaura Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Karoronui Stream in Block XVI, Tokomaru Survey District; thence southerly generally along the sea-coast to Te Karaka in Block XII, Uawa Survey District; thence westerly along a right line to the confluence of the Mangaopeka Stream and the Uawa River; thence north-westerly generally up the middle of the Uawa River and the Mangatokerau Stream to the south-western boundary of Lot 1 of Small Grazing-run 46; thence north-westerly along that boundary and the south-western boundary of Section 4, Block I, Uawa Survey District, and Section 2, Block XIII, Tokomaru Survey District, to Rimututahi Trig. Station, being a point on the boundary of the Tokomaru Bay Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence northerly and easterly generally along the boundary of that area to the mouth of the Karoronui Stream, being the point of commencement, and including Motuoroi and other adjacent islands.

Hawiti Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at Te Karaka on the sea-coast in Block XII, Uawa Survey District; thence southerly generally along the sea-coast to the north-eastern boundary of Pakarae No. 1A Block; thence north-westerly generally along that boundary and the northern boundary of that block and Pakarae No. 1D Block and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle of the Pakarae River; thence northerly and westerly generally up the middle of that river to a point in line with the north-western boundary of Section 2, Block XIII, Uawa Survey District; thence south-westerly to and along that boundary to the north-eastern boundary of Lot 2 on the plan numbered 2620, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Gisborne; thence north-westerly generally along that boundary and the north-eastern boundaries of Section 3, Block XVI, Waingaromia Survey District, and Waimata North No. 1A, No. 2 Block, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle of the Mangarara Stream, up the middle of that stream, to and along the north-eastern boundary of Section 2, Block XVI, aforesaid, the northern boundary of Section 1, Block XV, Waingaromia Survey District, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the middle of a public road; thence north-easterly and north-westerly generally up the middle of that road to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Lot 1 of Small Grazing-run 43A; thence north-easterly and north-westerly along that boundary and the north-eastern boundary of that run and its production to the middle of a public road; thence northerly generally up the middle of that road to the middle of the Waipu Inland Road; thence westerly generally along the middle of that road to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Lot 3 on the plan numbered 1696, deposited as aforesaid; thence north-easterly to and along that boundary and the north-eastern boundary of Lot 11 on the aforesaid plan and the production of that boundary to the middle of the Waingaromia River; thence north-easterly generally up that river to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Waipaoa No. 3B Block; thence north-westerly to and along that boundary to the generally eastern boundary of Waipaoa No. 2 Block; thence north-easterly, north-westerly, and northerly along the generally eastern boundaries of that block to the southern corner of Section 1, Block IX, Tutamoi Survey District; thence north-easterly along the south-eastern boundaries of that section, Section 2, Block IX aforesaid, Section 2, Block V of that survey district, and Section 1, Block VI of that survey district, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the right bank of the Mata River, being a point on the south-western boundary of the Tokomaru Bay Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence south-easterly generally along that boundary and the south-western boundaries of the Anaura Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described to Te Karaka on the sea-coast, being the point of commencement, and including Pourewa Island and other adjacent islands.
