Declaring Parts of a Tribal District to be Tribal Committee Areas
Under the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945

PURSUANT to section 14 of the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945, I, Ernest Bowyer Corbett, Minister of Maori Affairs, do hereby declare the parts of the tribal district described in the Schedule hereto to be tribal committee areas for the purposes of the said Act, and do hereby assign to each of the several areas the name appearing at the head of the description of each such area.

SCHEDULE

WAIPA TRIBAL DISTRICT

Kahotea Tribal Committee Area

ALL that area bounded by a line commencing at the south-western corner of Orahiri 1A Block, then proceeding north-easterly along a right line to a point in the middle of the Waipa River in line with the southern boundary of Section 18, Block XVI, Pirongia Survey District; then southerly generally up the middle of the Waipa River to and up the middle of the Mangapu Stream to its intersection with the south-eastern boundary of Pukeroa-Hangatiki No. 7c 2 Block in Block VIII, Orahiri Survey District; then north-westerly along a right line to Te Puhi Trig. Station in Block III, Orahiri Survey District, and a right line to the south-western corner of Orahiri 1A Block, the point of commencement.

Pirongia Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the boundary of the Otorohanga County as described in New Zealand Gazette of 1926 at page 1097, and a right line between Trig. Station T (Rock Peak) in Block I, Orahiri Survey District, and the south-western corner of Orahiri No. 1A Block in Block III, Orahiri Survey District; then proceeding westerly and north-easterly generally along the said county boundary to Trig. Station Te Ake-o-hikopiro in Block VI, Pirongia Survey District, and along a right line to Trig. Station Mahaukura in Block III, Pirongia Survey District; then north-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station Tahanui in Block II, Pirongia Survey District; then north-easterly along a right line to the southernmost corner of Section 204, Tuhikaramea Parish in Block XII, Alexandra Survey District; then easterly along a right line to the southernmost corner of Section 112, Te Rapa Parish in Block VII, Hamilton Survey District, and its production to the middle of the Waikato River; then south-easterly generally up the middle of that river to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Section 20B, Pukekura Parish; then southerly to and along the western boundary of the Town District of Leamington as described in New Zealand Gazette of 1922 at page 1853, to the south-western corner of Lot A of Section 165, Pukekura Parish; then south-easterly along a right line to Trig. Station 52 (Pukekura) in Block XIV, Cambridge Survey District, being a point on the south-eastern boundary of the Pukekura Parish; then south-westerly along that parish boundary and the south-eastern boundary of the Puniu Parish to the middle of the Mangaohoi Stream; then down the middle of that stream and the middle of the Mangapiko Stream to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of Allotment 317, Mangapiko Parish, near the north-western corner of the Borough of Te Awamutu; then westerly along a right line to the confluence of the Waipa and Puniu Rivers; then southerly generally up the middle of the Waipa River to a point in line with the southern boundary of Section 18, Block XVI, Pirongia Survey District; then south-westerly along a right line to the south-western corner of Orahiri 1A Block and a right line in the direction of Trig. Station T (Rock Peak) to the boundary of the Otorohanga County, being the point of commencement.

Maungatautari Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the southern extremity of the western boundary of the Borough of Cambridge as described in New Zealand Gazette of 1886 at page 985; then proceeding northerly, easterly, and southerly along the western, northern, and eastern boundaries of that borough to the middle of the Waikato River; then south-easterly and southerly up the middle of that river to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Section 10A, Tautari Settlement in Block XII, Maungatautari Survey District; then north-westerly along a right line to the southernmost corner of Pukekura No. 14 Block in Block II, Maungatautari Survey District; then northerly generally along the generally western boundaries of Pukekura Nos. 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8A, and 7 Blocks to the northernmost corner of the last-mentioned block; then north-westerly along a right line to the south-western corner of Lot A of Section 165, Pukekura Parish, being a point on the boundary of the Town District of Leamington as described in New Zealand Gazette of 1922 at page 1853; then northerly along the western boundary of that town district and its production to the middle of the Waikato River; then westerly along the middle of that river to the western boundary of the Borough of Cambridge, the point of commencement.

Parawera Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station 52 (Pukekura) at the northernmost corner of Pukekura No. 7 Block, being a point on the boundary of the Maungatautari Tribal Committee area hereinbefore described; then proceeding south-easterly generally along that boundary to its intersection with a right line between Trig. Station 1427 (Maungatautari) in Block VII, Maungatautari Survey District, and the south-western corner of Lot 2 on a plan numbered 23372 deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland in Block IX, Maungatautari Survey District; then south-westerly along the said right line to the south-western corner of Lot 2 aforesaid, and a right line to the confluence of the Owairaka Stream and the Puniu River; then north-westerly generally along the middle of the Puniu River to a point in line with the south-eastern boundary of the Puniu Parish; then north-easterly to and along that boundary and the boundary of the Pukekura Parish to Trig. Station 52, the point of commencement.

Wharepuhunga Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the confluence of the Owairaka Stream and the Puniu River, being a point on the boundary of the Parawera Tribal Committee area hereinbefore described, then proceeding north-easterly along that boundary to the south-western boundary of the Maungatautari Tribal Committee area hereinbefore described; then south-easterly along that boundary to the middle of the Waikato River; then southerly generally up the middle of that river to its confluence with the Waipapa Stream in Block XVI, Wharepapa Survey District; then westerly along a right line to Trig. Station Te Ranga in Block XIV, Wharepapa Survey District, and a right line to a point in the middle of the Mangatutu Stream in line with the southern boundary of the eastern portion of Rangitoto A No. 27B Block, in Block XIII, Wharepapa Survey District; then northerly down the middle of the Mangatutu Stream to its confluence with the Puniu River; then south-easterly generally up the middle of the Puniu River to its confluence with the Owairaka Stream, the point of commencement.

Mangatoatoa Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the Waipa River in line with the southern boundary of Section 18, Block XVI, Pirongia Survey District, being a point on the boundary of the Pirongia Tribal Committee area hereinbefore described; then proceeding northerly, easterly, and south-easterly generally along the boundary of that tribal committee area to the boundary of the Parawera Tribal Committee area hereinbefore described; then south-westerly and south-easterly generally along the boundary of that tribal committee area to the confluence of the Puniu River with the Mangatutu Stream; then south-westerly along a right line to a point in the middle of the Waipa River in line with the southern boundary of Section 18, Block XVI, Pirongia Survey District, the point of commencement.

Varying a Notice Declaring Parts of a Tribal District to be Tribal Committee Areas Under the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945

PURSUANT to section 14 of the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945, I, Ernest Bowyer Corbett, Minister of Maori Affairs, do hereby vary the notice dated the 10th day of March, 1948, and published in the Gazette on the 11th day of March, 1948, at pages 280 and 281, declaring parts of the Waitemata Tribal District to be tribal committee areas for the purposes of the said Act, by excluding from the Schedule thereto the description of the City Tribal Committee Area and substituting therefor the description appearing in the First Schedule hereto; and, pursuant to the said section 14 of the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945, the area described in the Second Schedule hereto, being part of the aforesaid Waitemata Tribal District, is hereby declared to be a tribal committee area for the purposes of the said Act and the name appearing at the head of the description of such area is hereby assigned to such area as the name by which such area shall be described and known.

FIRST SCHEDULE

CITY TRIBAL COMMITTEE AREA

ALL that area in the Waitemata Tribal District, bounded by a line commencing at a point in Block I, Waiwera Survey District, being the south-western corner of Allotment 110, of the Parish of Puhoi, and running easterly generally along the southern boundaries of the said Allotment 110 and Allotments 109, 108, 107, and 104 of the Parish of Puhoi aforesaid, and along a right line across a public road, to and along the southern boundaries of Allotments 85, 82, 62, 82A, and again 62, 61, 60, 54, 53, and 52 of the said Parish of Puhoi to the Waiwera River, crossing the intersecting roads and streams and along a right line, being the last-mentioned boundary produced across the Waiwera River aforesaid to its right bank; then down the right bank to the shores of the Hauraki Gulf; then southerly generally along the said shores, and north-westerly generally along the mean high-water mark on the northern shores of the Waitemata Harbour to a point in line with a right line between Trig. Station B in Block VI, Waitemata Survey District, and Trig. Station E in Block XIII, Waiwera Survey District; then northerly generally along a right line to the said Trig. Station E, and along another right line to the south-western corner of Allotment 110 aforesaid, being the point of commencement.

Also all that area bounded by a line commencing on the line of mean high-water of the southern shores of the Waitemata Harbour at a point in Block XVI, Waitemata Survey District, in the middle of the western end of Fanshawe Street, and running easterly generally along the line of mean high-water of the said Waitemata Harbour, Judge’s Bay, and Hobson Bay to the southern corner of Section 32 of Block VIII, Waitemata Survey District; then along a right line being the south-western boundary of that section produced to the middle of Orakei Road; then south-westerly generally along the middle of Orakei Road, to and along the middle of Ascot Avenue, to and along the middle of Green Lane East, to and along the middle of Great South Road, to and along the middle of Campbell Road to the
