Alterations to the Scale of Charges Upon the New Zealand Government Railways
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under the Government Railways Act, 1926, and its amendments, and of all other powers enabling me in this behalf, I, William Stanley Goosman, Minister of Railways, do hereby make the following alterations to the General Scale of Charges made on the 13th day of April, 1939, and published in the Supplement dated the 19th day of April, 1939, to the New Zealand Gazette of the 13th day of April, 1939, in force on the New Zealand Government Railways open for traffic.
PASSENGERS
2. Ordinary Tickets
Paragraph 2: Omit subparagraphs (a), (b), and (c) and substitute the following :—
(a) Single tickets for journeys not exceeding 20 miles—for one day only, being the date shown on the ticket, except that such tickets issued between two stations on separate sections of railway and which necessitate a sea journey, will be available for one calendar month.
(b) Single tickets for journeys exceeding 20 miles—for three calendar months.
26. Sporting and Pleasure Parties
Omit this regulation, and substitute the following :—
26. Sporting Parties
- The following tickets may be issued to sporting and athletic teams, golf, rowing, and rifle clubs, and such other parties as may be approved by the Department consisting in each case of not less than six adult passengers travelling together—
(a) Single or return tickets, available for first-class travel at the appropriate second-class fare (Regulation 2); or
(b) Single or return tickets, available for second-class travel at three-fourths the appropriate second-class fare (Regulation 2).

Subject to reasonable notice being given, a certificate authorizing either concession will be issued by any District Manager, Stationmaster, or Commercial Agent of the Railway Department, or the District Manager of the Government Tourist Department at Auckland, Rotorua, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, or Invercargill, upon application. Parties travelling under this regulation must travel by the trains arranged.

Members of a team or club under fifteen years of age included in a party, or forming a party travelling under the provisions of this regulation, may be granted half the adult concession fare. In such cases, the minimum number travelling will require to be equivalent to six adult passengers.

Tickets issued under the provisions of this regulation will have the same availability as ordinary tickets (Regulation 2). The minimum charge per adult or child passenger will be 2s. 6d.

The Department reserves the right to decline any application.
39. Suburban Weekly Twelve-trip Tickets
Paragraph 1 :—
Christchurch District—
Omit : Islington–Christchurch.
Insert : Burnham–Christchurch.
40. Suburban Fares
Omit Paragraphs 1 and 2 and substitute the following :—
- Single tickets at suburban fares are available for one day only, being the date shown on the ticket, except that such tickets issued between two stations on separate sections of railway and which necessitate a sea journey, will be available for three calendar months.
Omit paragraph 11, and substitute the following :—

Christchurch .. { Lyttelton–Burnham.
{ Riccarton–Rangiora.
{ And all intermediate stations and stopping-places in

Second-class tickets only will be issuable for travel by suburban trains operating between Christchurch–Rangiora and Christchurch–Burnham.
LUGGAGE, PARCELS, ETC.
46. Excess Luggage
Paragraph 3 :—
Omit : “Crockery.”
Insert : “Crockery (other than ornaments).”
Add to the list of articles which shall not be included in a passenger’s free-luggage allowance :—
Crockery ornaments.
Crystalware.
Glassware.
Omit paragraph 15, and substitute the following :—
- The following are the shipping company’s charges between Wellington and Lyttelton, Wellington and Picton, and between Wellington and Nelson :—

Bona fide personal luggage (free allowance inclusive of workmen’s tools, 1 cwt. per adult passenger), 3s. 10d. per 56 lb. or fraction of 56 lb.

Samples (free allowance inclusive of bona fide personal luggage, 1 cwt. per adult passenger), 2s. 6d. per 56 lb. or fraction of 56 lb. (up to 15 cwt.).

Samples in quantities over 15 cwt., goods rates.

Goods rates (no free allowance), 3s. 10d. per 56 lb. or fraction of 56 lb.
Bicycles, 10s. 9d. each.
Bicycles, motor, 22s. 6d. each.
Bicycles, motor, with side-car, 45s. each.
Sewing-machines, 10s. 9d. each.
† Fruit (between Wellington and Nelson only), 1s. 9d. per case.
- Minimum charge per consignment comprising one or more of the items listed in this paragraph, 6s. 9d.
† If no other items of excess luggage are carried the minimum charge of 6s. 9d will not apply.
For the purposes of this paragraph “shipping company” has the same meaning as is prescribed by paragraph 19, Regulation 45.
