(ii) Assistant teachers in post-primary schools who are holders of special posts and who receive additional salary in terms of Regulation 110 (1), (2), (3), (4), and (5) of the Education (Salaries and Staffing) Regulations 1948, or who are acting as relieving principals of post-primary schools.
(iii) Lecturers in training-colleges in receipt of additional salaries for performing special duties.
(iv) Head teachers of district high schools of Grade V and higher grade, and head teachers of public schools of Grade VI and higher grade.
(d) This Order, except where otherwise provided, shall be deemed to have come into effect on the 1st day of July, 1948.
- Salary Increases—
(a) That the salaries applicable to employees in the Education Service shall be increased on and from 1st July, 1948, as follows—
(i) By £10 per annum to those whose salaries do not exceed £175 per annum:
(ii) By £15 per annum to those whose salaries exceed £175 per annum, but do not exceed £274 per annum:
(iii) By £22 per annum to those whose salaries exceed £274 per annum.
(b) That the salaries payable in accordance with the provisions of paragraph (a) of this clause shall be increased on and from 1st June, 1949, as follows—
(i) By £5 per annum to those whose salaries do not exceed £296 per annum:
(ii) By £8 per annum to those whose salaries exceed £296 per annum, but do not exceed £411 per annum:
(iii) By £13 per annum to those whose salaries exceed £411 per annum.
- Minimum Remuneration—That the following regulations of the Education (Salaries and Staffing) Regulations 1948 shall be read as follows :—
(i) That in Regulation 34 (2) the rate of £230 per annum shall be replaced by £252 per annum on and from 1st July, 1948, and by £257 per annum on and from 1st June, 1949, and, further, that the rate of £299 per annum be replaced by £322 per annum on and from 1st July, 1948, and by £330 per annum on and from 1st June, 1949:
(ii) That in Regulation 81 (1) (b) the rate of £285 per annum be replaced by £307 per annum on and from 1st July, 1948, and by £315 per annum on and from 1st June, 1949, and, further, that the rate of £230 per annum be replaced by £252 per annum on and from 1st July, 1948, and by £257 per annum on and from 1st June, 1949:
(iii) That in Regulation 81 (2) and Regulation 82 (2) the rate of £335 per annum be replaced by £357 per annum on and from 1st July, 1948, and by £365 per annum on and from 1st June, 1949, and, further, that the rate of £305 per annum be replaced by £327 per annum on and from 1st July, 1948, and by £335 per annum on and from 1st June, 1949:
(iv) That in column (4) of Part II of the Ninth Schedule the rate of £300 per annum shall be replaced by £322 per annum on and from 1st July, 1948, and by £330 per annum on and from 1st June, 1949:
(v) That in column (3) of Part III of the Ninth Schedule the rates listed ranging from £230 per annum to £255 per annum shall in each case be increased by £22 per annum on and from 1st July, 1948, and on and from 1st June, 1949, be increased in accordance with the provisions of clause 2 (b) hereof:
(vi) That in column (4) of Part III of the Ninth Schedule the rate of £285 per annum wherever it appears shall be replaced by £307 per annum as at 1st July, 1948, and by £315 per annum as at 1st June, 1949:
(vii) That in column (5) of Part III of the Ninth Schedule the rate of £230 per annum wherever it appears be replaced by £252 per annum as at 1st July, 1948, and by £257 per annum as at 1st June, 1949.
- Part-time Employees—
(a) That the hourly rate of payment applicable to part-time employees in terms of Regulation 94 (1) and Regulation 115 (4) (a) and (b) shall be increased by 5d. per teaching hour on and after 1st July, 1948, and by 3d. per teaching hour on and after 1st June, 1949.
(b) That employees whose normal hours of work are less than twenty-five per week shall receive a pro rata increase based upon the appropriate scale of increases provided for in clauses 2 and 3 hereof.

Free Kindergarten Employees.—That the increases provided for in clause 2 hereof shall be applicable to free kindergarten employees.

That in accordance with the application made by the Acting Director of Education on behalf of the Public Service Commission, this Order shall apply mutatis mutandis to teachers and other persons employed in the Education Department of the Public Service and consisting of a class whose salaries have hitherto been fixed in relation to salaries payable to “employees” as defined in paragraph (a) of clause 1 of this Order.
