Appointments, Promotions, Transfers, and Retirements of Officers of
the New Zealand Military Forces

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the following appointments, promotions, transfers, and retirements of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces:

REGULAR FORCE

The Royal N.Z. Corps of Signals

Captain John Frederick William Tonge, M.B.E., from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, to be temp. Captain (on prob.), and is appointed Instructor, Signal Wing, Army School of Instruction, Trentham. Dated 13th September, 1948.

The Royal N.Z. Army Ordnance Corps

Lieutenant and Quartermaster S. H. E. Bryant to be Captain and Quartermaster. Dated 1st July, 1948.

The Royal N.Z. Chaplains Department

The Rev. Ronald Keith Dobson, Chaplain, 4th Class (temp. Chaplain, 3rd Class) (Church of England), from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, is granted a short-service commission for a period of five years as from 3rd September, 1948, in the rank of Chaplain, 4th Class, with seniority from 29th September, 1939. Dated 3rd September, 1948.

Supernumerary List, N.Z. Regular Force

Major and Quartermaster J. P. O'Connor is posted to the Retired List. Dated 11th September, 1948.
Captain and Quartermaster H. D. Hunt is posted to the Retired List. Dated 11th September, 1948.
Captain and Quartermaster L. R. Stichbury is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Class I (b). Dated 12th September, 1948.

Appointments to Commissions

The undermentioned to be Lieutenants and Quartermasters with seniority from 1st September, 1948, and are posted to the Corps as stated against their names:

TERRITORIAL FORCE

Director of Railways

Honorary Colonel J. Sawers relinquishes the appointment of Director of Railways and the honorary rank of Colonel. Dated 16th July, 1948.
Major F. W. Aickin, O.B.E., from the Reserve of Officers, Supplementary List, is appointed Director of Railways and is granted the honorary rank of Colonel. Dated 17th July, 1948.

The Royal N.Z. Infantry Corps

The undermentioned to be 2nd Lieutenants (on prob.), and are seconded to the Cadet Units (Area 7) as stated against their names:

OFFICERS CEASING TO BE SECONDED TO THE 2ND NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

Major C. M. H. Gibson, and is reposted to the N.Z. Regular Force with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 14th December, 1942. Dated 9th September, 1948.
Major R. H. Smith, and is reposted to the N.Z. Regular Force with the rank of Lieutenant, with seniority from 12th December, 1944. Dated 11th September, 1948.
Captain R. W. Ryan, and is reposted to the N.Z. Regular Force with the rank of Lieutenant and Quartermaster, with seniority from 9th August, 1946. Dated 16th August, 1948.
