Declaring Parts of a Tribal District to be Tribal Committee Areas under the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945

PURSUANT to section 14 of the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945, I, Peter Fraser, Minister of Maori Affairs, do hereby declare the parts of the tribal district described in the Schedule hereto to be tribal committee areas for the purposes of the said Act, and do hereby assign to each of the several areas the name appearing at the head of the description of each such area.

SCHEDULE

ARAWA NO. 2 TRIBAL DISTRICT

Ngati-Rangitihi Tribal Committee Area

ALL that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the sea-coast due north of Trig. Station J in Block IV, Waihi South Survey District; thence south-easterly along the sea-coast to a point in line with the western boundary of Allotment 7, Parish of Matata; thence southerly to and along the western boundary of the aforesaid Allotment 7 to its westernmost corner; thence westerly along a right line to Trig. Station 3E in Block III, Awaateatua Survey District, a right line to Trig. Station PK (Pikowai), a right line to Trig. Station Matamanu in Block VII, Waihi South Survey District, and the production thereof to a point on a right line from the north-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XI, Waihi South Survey District, to Trig. Station J in Block IV, Waihi South Survey District; thence due north along the aforesaid right line to Trig. Station J and its production to the sea-coast, being the point of commencement.

Ngati-Umutahi Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the north-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XI, Waihi South Survey District; thence due north along a right line to a point in line with a right line from Trig. Station Pikowai to Trig. Station Matamanu, being a point on the boundary of the Ngati-Rangitihi Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence easterly along the boundary of that area to a point on the sea-coast in line with the western boundary of Allotment 7, Parish of Matata; thence easterly along the sea-coast to a point in line with a right line from Trig. Station Mount Edgecumbe to the westernmost corner of Allotment 110, Parish of Matata, in Block VI, Awaateatua Survey District; thence southerly to and along the aforesaid right line to a point due east of Trig. Station R¹ (Otuhepo) in Block IV, Rotoma Survey District; thence due west along a right line to the aforesaid trig. station, and the production thereof to a point on a right line from the south-eastern corner of Te Riuotepapa Block in Block XV, Rotoma Survey District, to the north-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XI, Waihi South Survey District; thence northerly along a right line to the north-eastern corner of Section 2 aforesaid, being the point of commencement.

Kawerau Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the south-eastern corner of Te Riuotepapa Block; thence northerly along a right line in the direction of the north-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XI, Waihi South Survey District, to a point due west of Trig. Station R¹ (Otuhepo) in Block IV, Rotoma Survey District; thence due east along a right line to a point on a right line from Mount Edgecumbe to the westernmost corner of Allotment 110, Parish of Matata; thence southerly along the last-mentioned right line to Mount Edgecumbe; thence westerly along a right line to the south-western corner of Allotment 63, Parish of Matata; thence northerly along a right line to the south-eastern corner of Te Riuotepapa Block, being the point of commencement.

Pikiao East Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the Pongakawa Stream with a right line between the north-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XI, Waihi South Survey District, and Trig. Station 1039 (Otanewainuku) in Block XVI, Otanewainuku Survey District; thence easterly to and along the said right line to the north-eastern corner of Section 2 aforesaid; thence southerly along a right line to the south-eastern corner of Te Riuotepapa Block in Block XV, Rotoma Survey District; thence westerly generally along the southern boundaries of Te Riuotepapa Block aforesaid, Rotoma No. 1 Block, Haroharo Block, Te Haumingi Block, Pukearuhe No. 1A Block, again Te Haumingi Block, and the Waione Block to the south-western corner of that block; thence north-westerly generally along the south-western boundaries of Waione Block aforesaid, Tapuae Kura Moana Waipu Block, to the south-western corner of that block, along a right line to the south-western corner of Pahinahina Block, and along the south-western boundary of that block to the shore of Roto-Iti; thence north-easterly along a right line to Ngarehu, being a point on the shores of Roto-Iti aforesaid; thence easterly along a right line to the south-western corner of Te Rotoiti No. 5B Block; thence northerly generally along the western and northern boundaries of that block, to and down the middle of the Pongakawa Stream to its intersection with a right line between Section 2, Block XI, Waihi South Survey District, and Trig. Station 1039 (Otanewainuku) in Block XVI, Otanewainuku Survey District, being the point of commencement.

Pikiao West Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the intersection of the Kaituna River with a right line between the north-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XI, Waihi South Survey District, and Trig. Station 1039 (Otanewainuku) in Block XVI, Otanewainuku Survey District; thence easterly to and along the said right line to the middle of the Pongakawa Stream, being a point on the boundary of the Pikiao East Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence south-westerly generally along the north-western boundary of that area to the westernmost corner of Pahinahina Block, being a point on the shore of Roto-Iti, along the shore of Roto-Iti to the north-eastern corner of Pungarehu Block, along a right line to Trig. Station Q on Mokoia Island in Block XIII, Rotoiti Survey District; thence northerly generally along a right line to the south-western corner of Te Waerenga Block, along the western boundary of that block, along the south-western and western boundaries of Pukahukiwi Block, along the western boundary of Okere 1B 3r Block, and its production to and down the middle of the Hururu Stream and the Kaituna River to its intersection with a right line between the north-eastern corner of Section 2, Block XI, Waihi South Survey District, and Trig. Station 1039 (Otanewainuku) in Block XVI, Otanewainuku Survey District, being the point of commencement.

Waiohewa Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station Q on Mokoia Island in Block XIII, Rotoiti Survey District, being a point on the boundary of the Pikiao West Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence north-easterly generally along the south-eastern boundary of that area to a point on the shore of Roto-Iti, being the north-eastern corner of Pungarehu Block; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern boundary of that block to the north-eastern boundary of the Whakapoungakau 3B No. 1 Block; thence north-westerly and southerly along that boundary and the western boundary of that block to the northern boundary of Section 6, as shown on the Maori Land Court plan numbered 11256, lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor at Auckland; thence westerly along that boundary and the northern boundary of Section 5 as shown on the aforesaid plan; thence southerly and easterly along the western and southern boundaries of Section 5 aforesaid to the north-western side of the Rotorua-Whakatane State Highway; thence north-easterly along that highway to the south-western boundary of Part 3 as shown on the Maori Land Court plan numbered 12922, lodged as aforesaid; thence north-westerly along that boundary to the south-eastern boundary of Section 6 aforesaid; thence north-easterly along that boundary and its production across Whakapoungakau 3B No. 1 Block; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern boundary of that block to the Rotorua-Whakatane State Highway; thence south-westerly generally along the north-western side of that highway to a point due west of the westernmost point of Whakapoungakau 3B Part No. 3 Block; thence due east along a right line to the said westernmost point of that block; thence south-easterly and north-easterly generally along the south-western and south-eastern boundaries of that block to the south-western boundary of Whakapoungakau No. 2 Block; thence south-easterly along that boundary to the south-western corner of the Tapuae Kura Moana Waipu Block, being a point on the boundary of the Pikiao East Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of that block and of the Waione Block; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern boundary of Whakapoungakau Block to Trig. Station N (Whakapoungakau) in Block XV, Rotoiti Survey District; thence westerly along a right line to Trig. Station Q, being the point of commencement.

Nati-Waikato Schemes Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the shore of Roto-Iti, being the westernmost corner of Pahinahina Block, being a point on the boundary of the Pikiao East Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence southerly along the western boundary of that area to the south-western corner of Tapuae Kura Moana Waipu Block, being a point on the boundary of the Waiohewa Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence north-westerly along the generally north-eastern boundary of that area to the shore of Roto-Iti, being the north-eastern corner of Pungarehu Block; thence north-easterly generally along the shore of Roto-Iti to the westernmost corner of Pahinahina Block, being the point of commencement.

Uenukukopako Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station Q on Mokoia Island, in Block XIII, Rotoiti Survey District; thence easterly along a right line to Trig. Station N (Whakapoungakau) in Block XV, Rotoiti Survey District; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern boundary of Whakapoungakau Block to its southernmost corner; thence north-westerly along the south-western boundary of the said block to the shore of Rotorua, and along a right line to Trig. Station Q, being the point of commencement.

Owhata Tribal Committee Area

All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station Q on Mokoia Island, in Block XIII, Rotoiti Survey District, being a point on the boundary of the Uenukukopako Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of that area to the western boundary of Opakau te Pukatu Block; thence south-easterly generally along the western and southern boundaries of that block to the north-western boundary of Maungarawhiri No. 6B Block; thence south-westerly along the north-western boundary of that block to the shore of Tarawera Lake; thence south-westerly generally along the shore of that lake to the south-eastern boundary of Rotomahana-Parekarangi No. 6C 2B Block, along that boundary to the southernmost corner of the said block; thence northerly along the western boundary of Rotomahana-Parekarangi No. 6C 2B Block aforesaid to the south-eastern corner of Section 2, Blocks III and VII, Tarawera Survey District; thence westerly generally along the southern boundary of Section 2 aforesaid and the southern shore of Okareka
