Transmitting and Receiving Officers for the Service of Notices by

IN pursuance of the powers conferred upon me by the Post and
Telegraph Act, 1928 (hereinafter termed the said Act), and by
the regulations made on the 12th May, 1914, and published in the
New Zealand Gazette of the 21st May, 1914, the following officers,
at the addresses set against their names, are hereby appointed
transmitting and receiving officers for the purpose of dealing with
all notices by telegraph sent under the said Act or regulations, and
of signing such certificates in relation to the service of any such
notices as are required or authorized to be signed or given under
the said Act or the regulations aforesaid :-

Member of the Banks Peninsula Rabbit Board appointed.--(Notice

HIS Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased, in
pursuance of section 50 of the Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928,
to appoint, on the 16th day of December, 1947-

Robert Thomas Masefield
to be a member of the Banks Peninsula Rabbit Board established
under the said Act.

Appointments in the Public Service

THE Public Service Commission has made the following
appointments in the Public Service:-

Eric Walter Abercrombie
to be Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the District of Marsden
for the purposes of the Licensing Act, 1908, on and from the 1st day
of December, 1947.

Gladys Eileen Edwards
to be a Shorthand Reporter under the Shorthand Reporters Act,
1908, on and from the 8th day of December, 1947.

David Wallace and Alexander Smiley
to be Inspectors for the purposes of section 5 (1) of the Board of
Trade (Footwear Marking) Regulations 1946, on and from the
3rd day of November, 1947.

Ian Meek Cairney
to be an Inspector for the purposes of the Stock Act, 1908, Inspector
for the purposes of the Meat Act, 1939, an Examiner of Stallions
for the purposes of the Stallions Act, 1938, and a Meat Grader under
the Meat Act, 1939, for the purposes of the Board of Trade (Meat
Grading) Regulations 1943, on and from the 17th day of November,
1947.

Declaring Area to be a Closely Populated Locality for the Purposes
of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936, Section 3

IN terms of section 3 of the Motor-vehicles Amendment Act, 1936,
the Minister of Transport doth hereby declare the area described
in the Schedule hereto to be a closely populated locality for the
purposes of the said section to the intent that a person driving
any motor-vehicle on any road, street, or other place to which
the public have access therein shall be subject to the maximum
speed limit of thirty miles an hour fixed by the said section.

SCHEDULE

SITUATED within Bruce County-

All that area adjacent to Balclutha consisting of the Dunedin-
Gore State Highway No. 61, commencing at the eastern
boundary of Balclutha Borough as now constituted,
proceeding thence generally in a north-easterly direction,
and terminating at a point 17 chains measured along the
said State highway in a north-easterly direction from the
said boundary.

Approval of Testing Officers under the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940

IN terms of Regulation 5 of the Motor-drivers Regulations 1940,
the Minister of Transport doth hereby approve of the persons

under the said regulations for the authority specified in Column 1
of the said Schedule.

Date of Election by Fire-insurance Companies to fill Extraordinary
Vacancy on the Opotiki, Whakatane, and Tauranga Fire Boards

PURSUANT to the Fire Brigades Act, 1926, and the rules
thereunder, the Minister charged with the administration
of the said Act doth appoint Monday, the 19th January, 1948,
to be the date for holding the election of one member of the
Opotiki, Whakatane, and Tauranga Fire Boards by the fire-
insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill
the extraordinary vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. R. A.
Wilson from each Board.

thereunder, the Minister charged with the administration
of the said Act doth appoint Monday, the 12th January, 1948, to
be the date for holding the election of one member of each of the
Masterton, Pahiatua, and Carterton Fire Boards by the fire-
insurance companies concerned, such election being held to fill the
extraordinary vacancies caused by the resignation of Mr. L. C.
Robinson from the said Boards.

Radio Telephone established

Details : A radio telephone has been installed at Castlecliff
Pilot Station.

Call Sign : ZLHW.
Transmitting on 1,840 Kc/s.
Receiving on 2,012 Kc/s.
Watches : When a vessel is proceeding to Wanganui and it
is considered to be within R/T range, a watch will be kept for ten
minutes every four hours N.Z.S.T. as follows :-

0000-0010 0400-0410 0800-0810
1200-1210 1600-1610 2000-2010

When R/T contact has been established, a schedule mutually
agreed upon will be maintained, but in all cases an R/T watch will
be kept when any vessel is approaching the entrance.
