Tribal Committee Areas Declaration




Pursuant to section 14 of the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945, I, Peter Fraser, Minister of Maori Affairs, do hereby declare the parts of the several tribal districts described in the Schedule hereto to be tribal committee areas for the purposes of the said Act, and do hereby assign to each of the several areas the name appearing at the head of the description of each such area.

SCHEDULE

KATIKATI TRIBAL DISTRICT

Athenree-Bowntown Tribal Committee Area
ALL that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station 567, Te Aroha, being the westernmost corner of Block XI, Katikati Survey District; thence north-easterly along a right line, in the direction of the mouth of the Waihi Stream, to the western boundary of part of Waihi No. 5 Block (part of Waihi Borough, as described in the New Zealand Gazette of 1926, at page 3045); thence along the western boundary of the aforesaid part of Waihi No. 5 Block, across the Waihi Beach Road, and along the southern boundary of the aforesaid part of the Waihi No. 5 Block to its south-eastern corner, being a point on the sea-coast; thence south-easterly along the sea-coast and a right line to the middle of the Katikati Entrance of the Tauranga Harbour; thence southerly and westerly generally up the middle of that harbour and the Tahawai Stream to a point on the production of the eastern boundary of Section 21, Block IV, Katikati Survey District; thence due west along a right line to its intersection with the eastern boundary of the original Aroha Block, as shown on the Native Land Court plan numbered 3062, lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor at Auckland, being through State forest in Block XI, Katikati Survey District; thence along the aforesaid eastern boundary to its intersection with a right line from Trig. Station MA (Ngakuriawharei), on the north-western boundary of Block II, Katikati North Survey District, to Trig. Station 567 (Te Aroha); thence south-westerly along the said right line to Trig. Station 567, being the point of commencement.

Te Rereatukahia Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the south-eastern corner of that part of Section 20, Block III, Wairere Survey District, shown on the plan numbered 28359, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland; thence north-westerly along the north-eastern boundaries of part Section 20, and Lot 5, as shown on the plan numbered 25781, deposited as aforesaid, being part of the said Section 20, to the northernmost angle in its northern boundary; thence to and along the eastern boundary of the original Aroha Block, as shown on the Native Land Court plan numbered 3062, lodged in the office of the Chief Surveyor at Auckland, being through State forests in Block X, Aongatete Survey District, and Blocks VII and XI, Katikati Survey District, to a point due west of a point in the middle of the Tahawai Stream on the production of the eastern boundary of Section 21, Block IV, Katikati Survey District, being a point on the southern boundary of the Athenree-Bowntown Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence easterly along the southern boundary of that area and up the middle of the Tauranga Harbour, so as to include Egg Island and Tutaetaka Island, to the northernmost corner of Allotment 41, Te Mania Parish, in Block IX, Katikati Survey District; thence south-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station X, in Block I, Aongatete Survey District, and a right line to the south-eastern corner of that part of Section 20, Block III, Wairere Survey District, shown on the plan numbered 28359, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland, being the point of commencement.

Aongatete Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the south-eastern corner of that part of Section 20, Block III, Wairere Survey District, shown on the plan numbered 28359, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland, and being a point on the south-eastern boundary of the Te Rereatukahia Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence north-easterly along that boundary to the middle of the Tauranga Harbour; thence southerly generally up the middle of that harbour and the Waipapa River to a point in line with the north-eastern boundary of Allotment 72, Te Puna Parish; thence south-westerly along a right line to the south-eastern corner of Maurihoro A Block (Crown land); thence north-westerly along the north-eastern boundaries generally of the said Maurihoro A Block, Maurihoro B Block, and Waiharakeke East Nos. 5, 1A, 1C 2B 2, and 1C 1A Blocks, to the south-eastern corner of that part of Section 20, Block III, Wairere Survey District, shown on the plan numbered 28359, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland, being the point of commencement.

MATAKANA TRIBAL DISTRICT

Rangihouhiri Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the shore of Tauranga Harbour, in Block I, Tauranga Survey District, being the north-eastern end of the north-western boundary of Matakana No. 2B Block; thence south-westerly along that boundary and the north-western boundary of Whakatopo Block to a public road; thence westerly generally along the generally southern side of that road to the shore of Tauranga Harbour at the western corner of Matakana Part No. 1C Block; thence due south along a right line to the middle of the Tauranga Harbour; thence north-westerly and easterly generally along the middle of that harbour to the north-eastern end of the north-western boundary of Matakana No. 2B Block, being the point of commencement.

Kutaroa Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the northern-most corner of Waihirere No. 1 Block; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern boundary of that block; thence north-easterly along the north-western boundary of Opou B Block; thence south-easterly along the north-eastern boundaries of the Opou B and A Blocks; thence south-westerly along the south-eastern boundary of the Opou A Block, the production of that boundary to the middle of the Otapu Creek, a right line to the northern extremity of Paeroa No. IA 3 Block, and a right line to the eastern corner of Umuhapuku No. IB IA Block; thence westerly generally along the southern and western boundaries of that block, the southern boundary of Tauraroa Block, and the south-eastern boundaries of Kutaroa B and C Blocks to the eastern boundary of Block I, Tauranga Survey District; thence southerly and westerly along that boundary and the southern boundary of Block I aforesaid to the middle of Tauranga Harbour; thence westerly generally along the middle of that harbour to a point due south of the western corner of Matakana Part No. IC Block, being a point on the boundary of the Rangihouhiri Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence north-easterly generally along the south-eastern boundaries of that area to its easternmost corner; thence south-easterly along a line to the northernmost corner of Waihirere No. 1 Block, being the point of commencement.

Opureora Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of the Tauranga Harbour, on the southern boundary of Block I, Tauranga Survey District, being a point on the southern boundary of the Kutaroa Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence north-easterly along the generally south-eastern boundaries of that area to a point mid-way between the northern extremity of Paeroa No. IA 3 Block and the eastern corner of Umuhapuku No. IB IA Block; thence southerly, westerly, and northerly along the middle of the Tauranga Harbour, so as to include Motuhoa, to a point on the southern boundary of Block I, Tauranga Survey District, being the point of commencement.

Rangiwaea-Opounui Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point in the middle of Otapu Creek on the production of the south-eastern boundary of Opou A Block; thence south-easterly down the middle of that creek to the middle of the Tauranga Harbour; thence westerly along the middle of that harbour to the south-eastern corner of the Opureora Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence northerly along the eastern boundary of that area to the southern boundary of the Kutaroa Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence easterly generally along the boundary of that area to a point in the middle of Otapu Creek on the production of the south-eastern boundary of Opou A Block, being the point of commencement.

MANIAPOTO TRIBAL DISTRICT

Marokopa Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the mouth of the Waihekura Stream, in Block III, Marokopa Survey District; thence north-easterly along a right line passing through Trig. Station T (Rock Peak), Block I, Orahiri Survey District, to where the aforesaid right line intersects the western boundary of Section 8, Block I aforesaid; thence southerly generally along the western boundary of the said Section 8, the western, south-western, and south-eastern boundaries of Section 1, and the south-eastern boundaries of Sections 2 and 3A, all of Block VIII, Kawhia South Survey District, a right line across a public road, the western boundaries of Sections 3A and 3, Block V, Orahiri Survey District, the western boundaries of Sections 3 and 7, Block IX, Orahiri Survey District, to the Mangapohue Road; thence southerly along a right line to the easternmost corner of Section 9 (Cemetery Reserve), Block IV, Maungamangero Survey District, and a right line to the northernmost corner of Lot 1 on the plan numbered 13254, deposited in the office of the District Land Registrar at Auckland; thence westerly along a right line to the southernmost corner of Section 5, Block VI, Maungamangero Survey District, along a right line to Trig. Station 1657 (Maungamangero), and along a right line to Tirau Point on the sea-coast in Block III, Whareorino Survey District; thence northerly along the sea-coast to the mouth of the Waihekura Stream, the point of commencement.

Hangatiki Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the point of intersection of the western boundary of Section 8, Block I, Orahiri Survey District, with a right line from the mouth of the Waihekura Stream, in Block III, Marokopa Survey District, to Trig. Station T (Rock Peak), in Block I, Orahiri Survey District; thence north-easterly along the said right line to Trig. Station T (Rock Peak), and a right line to the south-western corner of Orahiri No. IA Block; thence south-easterly along a right line to Te Puhi Trig. Station, in Block III, Orahiri Survey District, and a right line to the intersection of the south-eastern boundary of Pukeroa-Hangatiki No. 7c 2 Block with the middle of the Mangapu Stream, in Block VIII, Orahiri Survey District; thence along a right line to the intersection of the Tahaia Road with the Waipa River Road, in Block VI, Mangaorongo Survey District; thence south-easterly along a right line to the north-eastern corner of Section 4, Block XIV, Mangaorongo Survey District; thence along the northern boundary of the said Section 4, the northern boundary of Section 3, Block XIV, Mangaorongo Survey District, across a road, and again along the northern boundary of Section 3 to its westernmost corner; thence along the northern boundaries generally of Rangitoto-Tuhua No. 35E
