Notice to Mariners No. 8 of 1948

NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—LYTTELTON
Alteration in Navigational Aids, &c.
(a) Position : Lat., 43° 36' S.; long., 172° 52' E. (approx.)
Details : The beacon close to the north-east tip of Baleine Point does not exist.
(b) Position : Lat., 43° 37' S.; long., 172° 47' E. (approx.)
Details—
(1) Red conical buoy in a position one cable east of Shag Reef does not exist.
(2) Parsons Rock Beacon is incorrectly charted and is in a position 2,460 ft. 347° from the flagstaff on Ripa Island.
(3) Shelly Bay : A dolphin has been established in a position 1,700 ft. 089° from the flagstaff on Ripa Island.
(4) Little Port Cooper : Notation “Pilot Station” is to be expunged.
(c) Position : Lat., 43° 37' S.; long., 172° 42' E. (approx.)
NOTE.—All bearings and distances are given from the fixed orange light beacon in position 1,150 ft. 265° from fixed red light on eastern arm of breakwater.
Details—
(1) 840 ft. 303½° : Fixed orange light removed.
(2) 1,800 ft. 303½° : Beacon surmounted by fixed orange light.
(3) Two sets of Cross beacons have been established to mark the limits of the dredged channel. Beacons consist of a post with triangle surmount and are in transit 303½°.
Position of beacons—
350 ft. 064° and 1,815 ft. 313°.
340 ft. 246° and 2,060 ft. 296°.
(4) Governors Bay : Rear beacon (square white beacon with central black vertical stripe) has been established to mark the northern limit of the dredged channel. The line passes through post off north side of Shag Reef and runs 262° to the new rear beacon in position 300 ft. from the trig. station near Governors Bay old jetty. The new rear beacon is in position 1·9 miles 263° from Shag Reef light.
NOTE.—All positions given in paragraphs 3 and 4 above are approximate.
(d) Position : Lat., 43° 36' S.; long., 172° 41' E. (approx.)
Details—
(1) Governors Bay old jetty in position 261° 1·9 miles from Shag Reef light beacon has been partly demolished and is no longer usable.
(2) Charteris Bay : A new jetty has been built for yachts. Jetty is—length 70 ft., width 6 ft., and has a depth alongside of 1 ft. at M.L.W.S. Position of jetty is where a line in a 113° direction from the south side of Quail Island to a trig. station (791 ft.) cuts the shore-line.
(3) Corsair Bay : The bay shown as Corsair Bay is Cass Bay. Corsair Bay is the bay whose eastern point is Senior Point.
(4) Magazine Bay : The bay between Senior Point and Erskine Point is called Magazine Bay.
(e) Position : Lat., 43° 37' S.; long., 172° 44' E. (approx.). Dredged channel approaching Port Lyttelton.
Details—
(1) The latest information shows that the charted depth of 34 ft. is correct, but in places this depth is obtained over a width of approximately 150 ft.
(2) Extension of dredged channel : The area enclosed by the following positions has been dredged to a depth of 30 ft. M.L.W.S.
NOTE.—All bearings and distances are approximate and are from the fixed red light on the end of the eastern arm of the breakwater.
(a) 157° 1,750 ft.
(b) 173° 1,700 ft.
(c) 220° 1,300 ft.
(d) 230° 1,020 ft.
(3) The 3 fathom patch in a position 1,350 ft. 212° from the fixed red light in (2) above does not exist, the least depth found being 24 ft. M.L.W.S.

Notice to Mariners No. 9 of 1948

NEW ZEALAND.—SOUTH ISLAND.—FAREWELL SPIT
Breakers reported
Position : Lat., 40° 31′3 S.; long., 173° 02′5 E. (approx.).
Details : Breakers are reported to have been observed in a position 040° 2 miles from the lighthouse visible at high water and extending in a south-easterly direction to the shore.
Mariners are warned to avoid this locality until an examination has been made.

Light established
Position : Lat., 39° 57′-1 S; long., 175° 00′-2 E. (approx.).
Details : A fixed orange light has been established in a position 057° 1,700 ft. from the fixed red light on the seaward end of North Mole.

Bar Soundings
Position : Lat., 35° 32′ S.; long., 173° 21′ E. (approx.).
Details : On the 11th February a line of soundings was taken when crossing the bar outwards with North Head bearing 051° and a least depth of 19 ft. M.L.W.S. •obtained.

Pharmacy Industry

G. G. McNamee, 45 Dorset Street, Westmere, Auckland, has applied for a licence to operate a new pharmacy at 330 Great North Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland.

W. Hoffman, 785 Mount Eden Road, Auckland, has applied for a licence to operate a new pharmacy at the corner of Three Kings Road and Rewa Road, Auckland.

Retail Sale and Distribution of Motor-spirit

W. B. Halcox, 60 Ohiro Bay Parade, Wellington, has applied for a licence to resell motor-spirit from one pump to be installed on premises at Ohiro Bay, Wellington.

J. R. Pentecost, 13 Petrie Street, Richmond, Christchurch, has applied for a variation of conditions of his existing licence to permit the installation of his pump in an outside position, effectively screened from the view of passing motorists.

Applicants and other persons considering themselves to be materially affected by the decisions of the Bureau of Industry on these applications should, not later than 4th March, 1948, submit any written evidence and representations they may desire to tender.
