Declaring Parts of Tribal Districts to be Tribal Committee Areas
under the Maori Social and Economic Advancement Act, 1945
Pursuant to section 14 of the Maori Social and Economic
Advancement Act, 1945, I, Peter Fraser, Native Minister,
do hereby declare the parts of the several tribal districts described
in the Schedule hereto to be tribal committee areas for the purposes
of the said Act, and do hereby assign to each of the several areas
the name appearing at the head of the description of each such area.
SCHEDULE
PANGURU TRIBAL DISTRICT
Mitimiti Tribal Committee Area
ALL that area bounded by a line commencing at a point on the
sea-coast in Block XIII, Whangape Survey District, being the
southern corner of Whakarawerua B Block; thence north-easterly
along the south-eastern boundary of that block to its south-eastern
corner; thence south-easterly along a right line to the northernmost
corner of Matihetihe No. 1a No. 4 Block, in Block XIV, Whangape
Survey District, and a right line to the north-eastern corner of
Section 7, Block II, Hokianga Survey District; thence easterly
along a right line passing through the southernmost corner of Old
Land Claim 350 to the middle of the Hokianga Harbour; thence
southerly down the middle of that harbour to the sea; thence
north-easterly to and along the sea-coast to the southern corner of
Whakarawerua B Block, the point of commencement.
Pawarenga Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station 42,
Pareokawa, on the northern boundary of Block VIII, Whangape
Survey District; thence southerly along a right line to Trig.
Station D, Opango, on the eastern boundary of Block XII, Whangape
Survey District, and a right line to the northernmost corner of
Matihetihe No. 1a No. 4 Block, being a point on the boundary of
the Mitimiti Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence
north-westerly along that boundary to the sea-coast, being a point
on the boundary of the Panguru Tribal District; thence north-
westerly, north-easterly, and south-easterly along that boundary to
Trig. Station 42, Pareokawa, the point of commencement.
Waihou Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station D,
Opango, on the eastern boundary of Block XII, Whangape Survey
District; thence south-easterly along a right line to the southern-
most point of Waihou Lower No. A 33D Block; thence easterly
along the southern boundary of that block and its production to the
middle of the Whakarapa Creek; thence south-easterly and
southerly generally down the middle of that creek and the Hokianga
Harbour to the northern boundary of the Mitimiti Tribal Committee
Area hereinbefore described; thence westerly and north-westerly
along that boundary to the eastern boundary of the Pawarenga
Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence northerly
along that boundary to Trig. Station D, Opango, the point of
commencement.
Whakarapa Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station 42,
Pareokawa, being a point on the north-eastern boundary of the
Panguru Tribal District; thence south-easterly along that boundary
to Trig. Station H, Waiwhakaruku; thence south-westerly along
a right line to the westernmost corner of Tapuwae No. 1B Block;
thence south-easterly along the south-western boundary of that
block to its southern corner; thence south-westerly along a right
line to the north-eastern corner of Section 37, Block XVI, Whangape
Survey District, and along the south-eastern boundaries of the
said Section 37, Sections 38, 39, 40, and 42, all of Block XVI afore-
said, and the production of the last-mentioned boundary to the
middle of the Whakarapa Creek; thence north-westerly along the
north-eastern boundaries of the Waihou and Pawarenga Tribal
Committee Areas, both hereinbefore described, to Trig. Station 42,
Pareokawa, the point of commencement.
Motuti Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station H,
Waiwhakaruku, being a point on the north-eastern boundary of the
Panguru Tribal District; thence south-easterly and westerly
generally along the boundaries of that district to the north-eastern
boundary of the Waihou Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore
described; thence north-westerly along that boundary to the
eastern boundaries of the Whakarapa Tribal Committee Area,
hereinbefore described, to Trig. Station H, Waiwhakaruku, the
point of commencement.
NORTHERN HOKIANGA TRIBAL DISTRICT
Motukaraka Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the north-
western corner of Section 36, Block XV, Takahue Survey District;
thence south-easterly along a right line to Trig. Station K 2, Rahui-
rapa, in Block V, Mangamuka Survey District, and a right line
passing through the north-western corner of Section 24, Block XIV,
Mangamuka Survey District, to the middle of the Hokianga Harbour;
thence westerly along the middle of that harbour to the boundary
of the Northern Hokianga Tribal District; thence westerly, north-
westerly, and north-easterly generally along that boundary to the
north-western corner of Section 36, Block XV, Takahue Survey
District, the point of commencement.
T autehihi Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the north-
western corner of Section 36, Block XV, Takahue Survey District;
thence easterly along a right line to Trig. Station K 6, Otianga,
in Block II, Mangamuka Survey District; thence south-easterly
along a right line passing through the northern corner of Old Land
Claim 123 to the middle of the Waihou River; thence south-westerly
generally down the middle of that river and the Hokianga Harbour
to the easternmost corner of the Motukaraka Tribal Committee
Area hereinbefore described; thence north-westerly along the north-
eastern boundaries of that district to the north-western corner of
Section 36, Block XV, Takahue Survey District, the point of
commencement.
Mangamuka Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the north-
western corner of Section 36, Block XV, Takahue Survey District;
thence north-easterly and south-easterly generally along the north-
western and north-eastern boundaries of the Northern Hokianga
Tribal District to Trig. Station Ratakamaru in Block XII, Maunga-
taniwha Survey District; thence south-westerly along a right line
to Trig. Station K 6, Otianga, in Block II, Mangamuka Survey
District; thence westerly along a right line, being the northern
boundary of the Tautehihi Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore
described, to the north-western corner of Section 36, Block XV,
Takahue Survey District, the point of commencement.
Rangiahua Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station
Ratakamaru, in Block XII, Maungataniwha Survey District;
thence south-westerly along a right line to Trig. Station K 6, Otianga,
in Block II, Mangamuka Survey District; thence south-easterly
along a right line to the northernmost corner of Old Land Claim 123;
thence easterly along a right line passing through Trig. Station
N in Block V, Omapere Survey District, to the eastern boundary
of the Northern Hokianga Tribal District; thence northerly and
north-westerly along the eastern and north-eastern boundaries of
that district to Trig. Station Ratakamaru, the point of commence-
ment.
Utakura Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the northern-
most corner of Old Land Claim 123, in Block VII, Mangamuka
Survey District; thence easterly along the southern boundary of
the Rangiahua Tribal Committee Area, hereinbefore described, to
the eastern boundary of the Northern Hokianga Tribal District;
thence southerly along that boundary to Trig. Station A 1, Puke-
wharariki, in Block XIII, Omapere Survey District; thence easterly
along a right line to the northernmost corner of Motukiore E Block;
thence northerly along a right line to Trig. Station Q, Pukewhao,
along a right line to the northernmost corner of Old Land Claim 102,
in Block XII, Mangamuka Survey District, and along a right line
to the easternmost corner of the Tautehihi Tribal Committee Area,
hereinbefore described, in the middle of the Waihou River; thence
north-westerly along the north-eastern boundary of that area to
the northernmost corner of Old Land Claim 123, the point of
commencement.
Motukiore Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the northern-
most corner of Motukiore E Block, in Block XV, Mangamuka Survey
District, being a point on the south-western boundary of the Northern
Hokianga Tribal District; thence westerly and northerly generally
along that boundary to the south-eastern boundary of the Motu-
karaku Tribal Committee Area hereinbefore described; thence
north-easterly generally along that boundary and the south-eastern
boundary of the Tautehihi Tribal Committee Area, hereinbefore
described, to the western boundary of the Utakura Tribal Committee
Area hereinbefore described; thence southerly generally along
that boundary to the northernmost corner of Motukiore E Block,
the point of commencement.
Taheke Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the northern-
most corner of Motukiore E Block, in Block XV, Mangamuka Survey
District; thence easterly along a right line to Trig. Station A 1,
Pukewharariki; thence south-westerly along a right line to Trig.
Station 122, Puketutu, and another right line to the easternmost
corner of Whawharu B South No. 4 Block; thence north-westerly
along the south-western boundary of the Northern Hokianga Tribal
District to the northernmost corner of Motukiore E Block, the
point of commencement.
Otaua Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station A1,
Pukewharariki, being a point on the eastern boundary of the Northern
Hokianga Tribal District; thence southerly, westerly, and northerly
generally along the boundaries of the said district to the easternmost
corner of Whawharu B South No. 4 Block; thence north-easterly
along the south-eastern boundaries of the Taheke Tribal Committee
Area, hereinbefore described, to Trig. Station Al, Pukewharariki,
the point of commencement.
SOUTHERN HOKIANGA TRIBAL DISTRICT
Waimamaku Tribal Committee Area
All that area bounded by a line commencing at the north-
western corner of Block IV, Waipoua Survey District, being a point
on the south-eastern boundary of the Southern Hokianga Tribal
District; thence southerly, westerly, and north-westerly generally
